I had soo much fun on this ship! I sailed Sept. '09 on a 7 day cruise of the Mediterranean. The ship is amazing and the food and crew were great! If get to cruise w/ the "washy washy" guy that hands out the hand sanitizer - you are in for a treat. I HIGHLY recommend!
@KatarinaFTW There's plenty of restaurants that are free!!! The only thing that you pay it's if you want a drink. I suggest you the Blue Lagoon if you're crazy about chicken wings!!! The Garden Café is the best place to eat too, if you want to be outside. It's at the end of the ship and it's really a nice place where you can eat.
By the way, I was on this ship on Spring 2008, for 14 days. We crossed the Atlantic Ocean and it was such a great trip!!! I recommend you and it's worth it!!!
Took the cruise on the Gem to the Bahamas from NYC 2/27-3/6/10. The ship is magnificent, clean, beautiful. Crew is great. Food amazing. So much to do, not enough time. Miss the ship already Ready to go again on the Gem or their new one The Epic. Treat yourself to the best, the Gem.
Haha i JUST got off this boat yesterday for march break, it was FUCKING AMAZING, if your looking into going on a cruise, forget about Royal Caribbean and those other Norwegian ships; Sky, Spirit, Dawn, Jewl... etc. Go for the Gem, it's simply amazing, the service is great, the food is to DIE for and the activites are endless. I HIGHLY recommend it to any vacation seeking person.

Yes, I agree, the "a la carte" restaurants had much better food, but some restaurants were fine without paying, such as, The Grand Pacific and The Magenta. And yes, the Hipnotist show was trully amazing.
Got this booked for later this year. Did 2 last year with MSC, nice memories. Just one thing let it down....the bullying of the far eastern waiters from their almighty white italian slavedrivers. Hope this is better in this respect.
you can have lunch in 13 differnet restaurant. one of them is a buffet. some them are with a service charge aswell!! the departure time is always different. you can have breakfast, then go on shore, go back to eat and back on shore. its a great cruise liner!!
i just got off of the norwegian gem this morning after an amazing cruise to orlando and the bahamas. everything was great, the shows, the food, the staff. . . everything was just absolutely amazing. this was my second time on the same ship and obviously i had to of loved it enough to want to go back!

you will absolutely love it and not want to leave...got some friends and family that work on it at the moment...and i would deffinately reccomend you go and see every show they do at night...although i have to admit i didnt find the comedy night all that great...but all the dance shows are fantastic..hope you enjoy it.
I went a little while ago. It was really fun and although the slide next to the pool is slow, it was still a very nice and fun experience. They have everything including chess pieces that are large and the pool is sea water. It was worth it.

Look its a style that may be attractive to some people who need behaviours like that in order to feel they are something special.
But anyway. As said before, the ship is fantastic, the cabins are great, the food is wow...and all the destinations are tops. So just enjoy!!
I remember every part of this ship. I went on march 15th and disembarked on the 22nd. we went to nassua,and freeport bahamas. it was awsome. we stopped in florida to disney. i miss it so much :[
I was on N.G. very recently - my wife and i cruised in the west Mediterranean. Actually we went on board the 15th of July and we disembarked by the 23rd. The boat is great. Our stateroom was beautiful, we really enjoyed the balcony, and the food was very good. I am afraid I can't be so positive for the crew. I am not going into details here in public but I will definitely e mail NCL very soon. The whole of the experience though was fantastic.
