Yeah, actually, it's Cheney he's related to. They're distant cousins. And if Barack were white the Republicans wouldn't even bother running a candidate because they'd think the Second Coming of Reagan had come. The old "Well if they were white!" excuse to disregard the accomplishments of people of color is getting more and more tired by the day. He is where he is 1)because he's worked hard, 2)because he's charismatic and people like him, and 3)because he's the right man at the right time.

Even if he were white, Obama and Republicans have many opposing views ergo they would run a candidate and the technicality that in no circumstance would they not run a candidate.

It was a joke highlighting the fact that race plays a role in this election. This is America. Race matters. Of course the Republicans wouldn't close shop if Obama were white. They would, however, be even more shaken by his candidacy than they already are if they didn't have the "race card" to play.

You can make the counter-argument that if he were white he'd be a shoe-in come November. A young, charismatic, eloquent, well-educated, white candidate who came from humble, single-parent beginnings? C'mon, it'd be no contest. McCain would be toast. It'd reek of Clinton-Dole '96 and Clinton-Bush '92.
Being white in America comes with advantages and disadvantages just like being a member of an ethnic minority group. The weight of those advantages and disadvantages is what's debatable.

The last young white charismatic candidate was John Edwards, and he got Smashed by John Kerry, who has the personality of a dead fish!
