  • its fake. you wernt playing if you go to :37 seconds into the video he'll remove his lips and it continues making sound.

  • @cylpso911 um, it's called reverb. He added reverb to that part of the video to make it sound more......... whatever you call it.

  • At first I thought just what the hell?

Then when you start playing so .. yes I fell in love, love this kind of "music"

  • I wish I could get an instrument like that, does anybody know where you could get one without going to brazi l / south america?

  • Loaded with artificial reverb. listen when he takes a breath.

  • Sounds like the music from the UK TV show Shameless.

  • Please let me know what you used to record this video? Sound quality is great. Anyone???

  • Where would somebody get one of these if they wanted one?

  • @phpforthewin If you travel to indigenous areas in South or Central America you may find one.

  • I mean a thousand years of the same ole beat? No wonder they left.

  • I wonder how close that is to the tunes of the times. I wonder also if they changed tempos and had a too 10 or top 40.?

  • beautiful! thanks for sharing.

  • Reminds me off Guild Wars music

  • could you make a video with only the song, please

  • I found your video on wimp (dot) com. The sound is simply mesmerizing. Any thoughts on why this instrument is not commonplace today. As a penny whistle enthusiast I think the sound is truly fantastic.

  • @martisbvk same! and I searched the title on here :p

  • @martisbvk. Thanks!

  • could you record a 5 minute song of something along this it just sounds so amazing i would love to have a song like that on my ipod if anyone knows of anything of this style please send :)

    reverbnation (dot) com/taripaypacha

  • sweet reverb :)

  • It has an incredibliy beautfful sound. I saw one just like it last year but it was too heavy for my little hands. Hope all you projects are going well :-)

  • @temaquizcuini. The warm tone on this flute was beyond anything I have ever heard before, I couldn't resist. Thanks Tema!

  • @thedoorsfreak - I was just on his website as he's doing a flute-building workshop here in AZ and I would love to go. I'm so pleased you put this up as he doesn't have any sound clips on the site and I was dying to hear one of his flutes! It's a great piece, a real collector's item, and plays well too. CalmingWind is in our flute circle so I will ping him directly too. ;) Keep up the good work, you sound great. p.s. it looks heavy!

  • Hey Calming Wind - Casey here ;) don't know for sure but that sure looks like a Nash Tavewa Jaguar clay flute - check out his website and see the email Pat just sent out - having a workshop in November on making a bass clay flute. I think I want to go if the bass sounds as good as this one!

  • @AZFluteLady. You are right, I think it was Nash Tavewa who sold me the flute! I never received his information, which I later regretted, but thank you! Now I know who made it.

  • que hermosa flauta tiene senor fernando!

  • Beautiful song! It looks like a flute by Nashtevewa: a great instrument maker.... Check out more of his flutes by searching for "flutesbynash"..... You´ll love his other flutes too.

  • spanish, espanol: si quieren comprar una de instrumentos de los mayas, en los mercados del DF hay muchisimas, y cuestan hasta cien pesos.

english, ingles: if you want to buy one of these ancient mayan instruments, go to central mexico city, and they can reach the price of ten dollars.

  • You have a cool way of living amigo.

  • la verdad se escucha muy impresionante me encanto esta muy padre yo quisiera tener una flauta a si, de erdad esta increible.

  • what the world needs more of today........thanks for sharing <3

  • At once haunting and beautiful. What a great instrument!

  • nice so where did you get it and how much

  • @CalmingWind. I bought it off a random flute maker during an Aztec New Years festival.

  • @CalmingWind i found it by scrolling through the links on scott august website

  • Is it hard to get an even tone while playing both at once? cause at points the drone seems to be out of tune

  • @Sabored Yes! its very hard keeping the drone in tune with the melody. I tried my best to even it out and keep the flow of air consistent between the two flutes.

  • this is one of the greatest instruments i have ever heard. i saw a guy playing a mayan drone flute today at the beach and i had to look them up thank you its amazing do u no where i could find one?

  • @livlifefresh21 Its hard to find them. I happened to run into a flute maker one day.

  • Beautiful, absolutely entrancing!

  • very nice

  • I am a Mayan Indian and is quite interested in their music ... this is the music that they listen to?

  • merveilleux ,une musique qui donne le frisson ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! MERCI !

  • haha, this makes me remember when my friend pulled out a kind of "miniguitar" to play at the local radio-station, the funny thing is, the species was extinguished O___o some kind of armadillo

btw, the sound of this flute reminds me of some song by kailash-kokopelli (dot com).

very nice sound! congrats on the aquisation and life.

  • my brother, this was awesome , thank you :)

  • What a beautiful Spirit lifting, haunting and inspired sound. Thank you. - Guy

  • Soooo, that edit in the video, where you add the audio effect, was that meant to be seamless? Kind of defeats the idea of you showing us "what ancient Mayan music may have sounded like" no?

  • not really

  • I grabbed a microphone so that you could hear it better, as opposed to a far away camera.

Ancient Mayan flutes were used for ceremonial purposes. They were used in temples and caverns which gave off large amounts of ambience and chamber echo.

  • Beautiful...in all its richness Azteca was brought to you live on Youtube.:-)

  • thank you

  • lovely! very calming and peaceful... i would love to lay in the grass by a stream, and just listen to you playing that flute all day!

  • Fuggin' dope

  • Excellent man! Where did you buy it and how much?

  • it was $200, normal price range is $300+ for a good clay flute. It was at this Aztec New year ceremony in San Jose, with people from all over. Xavier Quijas Yxayotl was there too selling his flutes for around $360.
