  • My friend got a Seagull; I finally convinced him to buy a better instrument...

no one who has good hearing and a passion for music should buy a cheap instrument. It's like saying "I love Music— but I'm going to buy a cheap guitar because I don't deserve a good instrument".

But if you can't play any better than this guy here; it won't matter.

  • I have a fender sonoran sce that costs 650$ that doesnt even sound as good as this 400 dollar seagull :(

  • @jlamotta100 Perhaps a Taylor Big Baby?

  • I have this model of guitar. Highly recommended :)

  • Its the headstocks that put me of seagulls. Some of them sound really nice though. But I do like a good looking guitar.

  • You didn't mention the dual action truss rod,

  • For the money or price range of 4-500 dollars I think it's hard to beat a Seagull, or other guitars by Godin. I am also impressed by some of the Taylors as a 3/4 sized model I played once at a music store in Florida, while on vacation. Some of the Yamahas ,Epiphones and tonewood series Ibanez's too, are very good. I last bought a abit more then their cheapest models, Hoehner acoustic, cutaway, which has good sound and built in mike w EQ and gold plated tuning gears. Quality tip: pay 1-200 more!

  • What was the last song you played to the DADGAD tuning?

  • That tune is the Irish traditional "Banish Misfortune."

  • Before you buy any brand, pick up a seagull in a similar style and the same price range and play them side by side. You will end up buying the seagull. F'n great guitars.

  • @Redongulous this is so true. i have multiple Seagull's, as well as numerous high end acoustics (Gibsons, Breedloves, Larrivee's, Martins, etc..) and 9 times out of 10 the under 1k Seagull sounds better than the Big Boys. i like to look at Seagull as the worlds best kept acoustic secret.

  • il parle beaucoup, et pas de test reel.

  • are seagull necks wide? most pictures and vids make them look wide, but i can't tell if its cause of the thin headstock

  • @dykstrark Yes they are wider 1.8. the "standard" width at nut is 1 11/16 for guitars. Seagull makes a slim neck at 1.72. I believe1 11/16 is equal to 1.68. Seagull also make two models in 1.9. One is a 12 string and the other is pepepino's model.

    standard guitar 1 11/16 (which I believe is 1.68)

    1.75 is becoming popular

    1.8 is the usual seagull

    1.72 is their slim neck

1.9 is a special artist model

unless hand is small if you like to finger pick go 1.75 or better

    Seagull are the best ROI

  • I have two seagull folk's. One like this one (the first series) and one from the artist series with solid mahogany back, sides and neck.

Both guitars sound AMAZING. The Artist series folk really opened up after a year of playing.

    Best buy I've ever made.

  • I would like to hear a tune that shows more of the merits of the guitar than that of the player.

  • I would like to hear more of the guitar played in a manner that shows its merits instead of a tune that shows the merits of the player.

  • Been playing Seagull since late 90s.

  • Outstanding guitars, unbelievable value for the price. For $400, you can get a Canadian-made quality instrument or a laminate Epiphone made in china.

  • Just one correction. This model have a laminated back and side. Go do seagull web site, every coastline series have a laminated back and side. Anyway is a great guitar.

  • @JEDURO:

this is true, but IMO it's much more important to have a solid top than sides. I would even venture to say laminate woods on the back and sides make a minimal effect on the overall sound of the guitar

  • yeah tuber its a wild cherry laminate body.

    :(

    i know.

  • Pretty hard to beat for $400. Whatever else can be said about it, it sounds awesome!

  • No way! You're the guy who reviewed the Blade CE!

    Ha.

  • backs and sides are laminate, not solid wood :S

  • Somebody needs their action raised a notch

  • i would love to see a review from you on the seagull s6 original cedar top...if at all possible

  • @whynotfish It would be nice. Seagulls are excellent for quality and price. The necks on them are kind of bolted on but that makes it easier to repair if need be and also makes a reset easier too. I have the entourage and it sounds just like the s6. Play an s6, they are great and I love how they're short scale. Every "guitar center" you go to will probably have one to try.

  • @whynotfish I agree! seagull s6 original cedar top!
