Some people say that the comments are harsh, and yes I'll agree that people could be nicer, but on the other hand, you should have the mental capability to know if you are good enough to be giving lessons. I know if I'm good enough or not to teach, and you know what? I'm not, so I don't go and make video lessons that make me look like a fool. Honestly, it's a disservice to all musicians to be passing yourself off as an "expert" when you obviously shouldn't be teaching other drummers. Get some more knowledge before posting up an instructional video. Really, kids will see this and think you know what you're talking about when you actually don't. I mean come on - it's a freaking "Cascara." If you've studied enough to be teaching other people, you should've realized you don't even know the name of the groove...

Just happened to stumble across your video - sounds a good basic starter rhythm which can be developed to other things - but what is it with the vicious comments? You come across this so often on music instructional videos on youtube - there's always some self appointed expert that wants to pour scorn and pull you down because your effort isn't "pure" or "real" - in my experience real musicians ENCOURAGE and instruct. Those that the do the opposite probably can't play note.

It is a really basic breakdown of what could be a mambo rhythm, but for it to truly feel like an afro-Cuban mambo rhythm you'd have to be playing the cascara pattern on the ride or cowbell to a 2/3 clave and the hi-hat on the offbeat. This is an introduction to a couple of the parts that would constitute an afro-Cuban rhythm on the drum set. Traditionally afro-Cuban rhythms are played by 3 people: congas, timbales and bongos, so when adapted to the kit the drummer plays up to 3 parts at once.
