That is a Fender American Deluxe P-bass. It's black with a tortoise pickguard and a rosewood fretboard. They go for around $1200 last I checked. I dunno if they're quite the same as that one these days, though. For starters, you're gonna get a gold pickguard... but possibly better hardware.
i don't think jenny lewis should waste her time playing the guitar on stage. she has too good of a voice and.. well.. she's kind of useless since there's already a guitarist and he makes most of the sound. i mean yeah it's great she knows how to play, but she sings already, it doesn't really add anything to the song, and it seems to me like it can only hinder her voice.
Well considering shes playing bass I think it helps the song out because there isnt a rythm guitar from what i here and the bass is pretty important in my book.
She plays the awesome guitar riffs in Portions for Foxes, Paint's Peeling, Pictures of Success. It doesn't really hinder her singing. She also plays the keyboard in Spectacular Views, Slumbering Hearts, and more and she plays the bass in this song, Capturing Moods, Wires and Waves and does a damn good job of it. I love that she can play so many instruments.

sorry didn't notice it was rhythm guitar. nvm then.

She is the bands only bass player. Other than that, you make a somewhat valid point.

actually, if you've seen rilo kiley live you would know that she only plays the bass during this song. she's usually on guitar.
