The only problem the Democrats are addressing with this health care bill is the claim by the insurance companies that they are going broke because their aren't enough people paying in. That's why they want to mandate it. They want to get everyone paying into it so they can cover all the bills. But mandating health insurance just makes it another tax for another subsidy and subsidies, among other things, are the reason why health care costs are so high. This is guaranteed to make them higher.
This is bad because the insurance MONOPOLY will get laws passed that will micro-manage every aspect of your life and how you live it. INSURANCE COMPANIES MAKE MONEY BY NOT PROVIDING HEALTH CARE. HEALTH CARE IS OVERHEAD TO AN INSURANCE COMPANY. NON PROFIT IS THE ONLY WAY!!!
Non profit is the only way? What does that mean, you think the government should take over? As if they haven't already, they created the monopolies in the first place. What little is left of the free market is doing what it's supposed to do. People aren't doing business with lying monopolies anymore. That's why insurance companies are going broke. That's the free market at work. Any effort to undermine that is wrong. There is no need to ban anything or mandate anything.
@Piscivorus, sorry I'm late to the discussion but the same thing can be said of higher education. Price gets too high instead of going, just find a cheaper JC and educate yourself that way. No need to through away 3 mos worht of apt. rent on a semester at college. Govt. has had its hand in higher education as well and the result is higher tuition. Insurance companies/hospitals that overcharge need to fail since they are out of scope with the common public marketplace.
@09bassman, you will notice how the govt. doesn't state what we get if we do pay a fine. In effect am I purchasing a policy for x amount of months at that point or am I being fined without gettting anything back.
@09bassman, personallay I think the healthcare insurance providers and hospitals that have overcharged need to crash hardcore and come back to down to reasonable prices within the public scope. Govt. is not helping the matter with a mandate and what I'm seeing nowadays are ins. providers that are out pricing themselves. I wonder if a unified boycott would make a dent in these companies sending a clear signal that price gouging is no longer tolerated. Oh well something will happen eventually.
I don't have health insurance because I'm young and fit. That is a finacial risk I take with my life and health because I don't think having insurance is worth it. It is too expensive, and they always try to find a way to get out of paying! So in effect, I am boycoting the insurance companies. I don't like insurance companies, but I never asked for "Big Brother" to come to my rescue.
@09bassman, I never let the threat of not having insurance ever stop me from progressing or looking for other types of employment. I just don't subscribe to the fear anymore. We all budget accordingly and just live. I think what I don't like is how everything one works hard for is taken away when medical debt comes into play. Pretty sick system we have at the moment. I'm with you on the insurance issue and money saved is put towards a doctor's visit and medication.
If we can fix the problem threw our Churches, then maybe we can prove that this country does not need Government to fix our problems! We need a Christian Renaissance!
@09bassman, you bring up a very good point in regards to community co-ops if that is where you are getting at. There has to be more public organization and banding together without govt interference. In the instance with our current system with all these health insurance providers, they are nothing more than a middle man and that is about it. Also I find risk factor pricing with some insurance companies to be very discriminatory as one ages or if one moves to a different zip code.
@09bassman, I don't trust big brother to do the right thing either and like you said "the devil hides in the details" Regardless of our current surroundings, we live and manage just fine. I still have yet to "get hit by a bus" as Obama put it in one interview LOL. May you always be in excellent health then. Best Regards and good evening.

I'll try and find the You Tube link as there was someone bringing up some very good points about more public involvement and less govt. interference.
