I just got one of the clear cds to work. Well, it worked on the second one i went through. Thing is, the one that worked was still clear, the one that I failed miserably on was all black. I was holding the flame too close. It shouldn't blacken at all if done correctly.
just posted a video response to this. didn't work the first time because i was using a clear protector cd, it has to be a normal cd that has the top shiny stuff scraped off,
hold the flame about 1/2 inch away and once the plastic starts to sink, right above the flame, blow just like your blowing normal bubbles. It should only take 10-30 seconds to melt all the way.
the plastic got too hot and started to melt too much. this means that it got too malleable to be able to produce the 'bubble' effect. This sounds weird because it IS weird. science is a nasty bitch.
so hold the flame back a bit more and try out different times for holding the flame on (ie. 5,10, etc seconds).
if u pause at 0:03 i swear it looks like ricky off of trailer park boys
