The Persians did have at least 250,000, and that was part of the reason they lost at Marathon, Thermopyle, Gaugamela, and Arbella. The Greeks/Macedonians had an easier time feeding/supplying their army. The Persians didn't feed their troops properly, and that was part of their problem. i have a question- if a phalanx was struck by arrows, wouldn't it completely lose its cohesion? so wouldn't it be best to fire arrows at a phalanx, and then immediately charge into it?

read more about persians in that time. theyr were taken by darius from every corner of persia, thousands of them, he easily can ask for few thounsands of men in provinces because he was the king. Yhe key to size of persians army size was thet it was build for one goal, to beat alwxander, not to conquare ather lands and disn.t need to travel it means it could easily be feaded for few days.

The persian army was a lot smaller than the claimed 250000, 10% at the most, totaly impossible, until the napoleonic wars, to feed and have water enouge, same goes for the battle of thermopyle, were the persians was at the most 12000, and propably less then half that number. History is full of lies, and they get more and more exaggerated as the years pass. We westerners are for example brainwashed into beliving that England defeted napoleon and that US beat Germany in the world wars.

The Persians did have at least 250,000, and that was part of the reason they lost at Marathon, Thermopyle, Gaugamela, and Arbella. The Greeks/Macedonians had an easier time feeding/supplying their army. The Persians didn't feed their troops properly, and that was part of their problem. At Marathon, a lot of the troops were definitely dehydrated.

My favorite parts are of course the "left turn" and then the Silver Shields part. "The Shields are here! AHHHH!!!! Drive for the hole! Drive for the hole!" Best part. Gave me goosebumps in the theater because it was exactly how I had imagined it when studying the battle. Too bad Stone completely screwed up The Battle of HYDASPES.. It could have been a glorious tactical sequence full of triumph and victory against adversity, but instead it was an incoherent mess. :(

I would've liked to see you defeating the Persians.
It was pretty standard to use chariots to smash into enemy formations to break up formation (thus allowing other troops to pour in) and/or panic the enemy. Alexander's counter was something had not seen and did not expect.
And do remember, this is a movie, and a Hollywood movie at that.

true alexanders empire was about half the size of the roman empire, but alexader conqered his empire in 13 years, while the romans took hundreds of years to conquer their empire and it was done done by hundreds of different generals while alexander led his army himself through entire hellenistic conquest. alexader is one the most important people in western history. thats whats so great about him... dumbass.

Dareios just failed in this battle. He could have won with ease when Alexander weakened his center by sending all cavalry to the flanks.
He should have sent all chariots in a checkerboard pattern to make the evasive maneuvers useless, infantry squares on both flanks and used his cavalry to outflank the center phalanx. He would have lost parts of his cavalry to the back row phlananx, but won the battle.

dude ??? the only people that only had battle experiance were the caverly and king darius. the people were villagers, farmers etc. and at that time people didn't have 3 years to plan a battle and king darius might of been a good battle taction but not as good as alexander and he thought he could win with so many men!

Well I think it's pretty realistic. The Persians had terrible, unorganised infantry. Only their powerful cavalry and archers were the reason they conquered so much of the Eastern world.

They did the accents for a single reason, the english accent is to show that they are macedonian nobility as in western culture the english accent is regarded as 'higher' and thus the grunt soldiers and the like are 'scottish' to show that they are not nobility and are in fact tribesmen and so forth
