  • he has so much integrity and authenticity, its almost hard not to strive to be like that after watching these.

  • Who is Ben?

  • Whoa he's out of character!!

  • you're immortal man. Helped see us through some rough years

  • Man, his brothers died young. So sad-poor Stephen.

Love the interview, nice to hear his thoughts on comedy. I'm glad he went into that profession, he's brilliant at what he does and I hope he keeps doing it for a long time.

  • It is nice to hear Cober"T" talk instead of Cobert. I've always wondered who Cober"T" was.

  • This guy is my role model.

  • Stephen Colbert talks about the secretive Bilderberg group on the air! watch?v=WyhCtbAuHbk

  • what does charlie rose say at about 1:52 ??

  • a cause célèbre

  • @jumpyourbone "did you ask them 'how'd I do?'"

  • fuck a tranny

  • Yeah shut the fuck up, I hear it's the new rage in NYC.

  • hmm... Out of character?^^ cool...

  • I... I just love Stephen so much.

  • Ben is the bad guy in Lost.

  • Who is "Ben"?

  • he's fucking great.

  • god what a brillient man

  • Well, he's in a movie now.

  • what an idiotic comment. you need instincts and intelligence. the greatest presidents in american history embodied a wide variety of character attributes- thomas jefferson was highly intellectual; he was one of the greatest philosophers in american history, and he doubled the size of the us overnight. lincoln was a decisive guy, but his intelligence was on display during his 1858 senate debates with stephen douglas. fdr was extremely articulate, but his political instincts and guile guided him

  • THEY'RE DOING!

  • Who's Ben?

  • Comment removed

  • ben karlin, the old exec producer

  • take it he's not in character then.

    legend.

  • yeah,....its huuuuge room

  • Your wingnuttery shows through this post.

People around the world like Colbert, you're crazy.

  • you've got it buddy. that's what's wrong with america: people like colbert thinking with his head and not his gut like you.

  • through the great depression and the second world war. reagan was a "gut" president... introduced a $40 billion tax cut, and doubled the national deficit as the number of americans living below the poverty line increased by almost 8 million during his presidency. that's the problem with republicans like you... you take one trait necessary in an effective president- the ability to make sound decisions quickly- and eradicate all other tools necessary in the presidential repertoire. look at the

  • position W's "gut" has got us in... he had no grasp of the economy, and acted against the advice of alan greenspan before introducing his first tax cut in 2002 ($1.2 trillion), and then again during the run up to the 2003 invasion of iraq, when treasury secretary paul o'neill noted that cutting taxes before initiating a war was bad economics. now we've seen median wage gains stagnate as CEO compensation has gone through the roof. sure, true leaders have gut instincts, BUT THEY KNOW WHAT THE FUCK

  • Yeah, instinct cannot run a country. Neither can instinct lead you through life or get you through school. Calculating, scheming, thinking and analyzing is what does that for you. Sometimes your data isn't enough to make a logical conclusion, so your "gut" plays it's role there a little bit. That is really the only purpose for an intuition.

  • You don't get to have a gut until you have EXTENSIVE knowledge on the subject and VAST experience. And a history of success. Then your "gut" is just your brain working in a superior level, one that cannot be explained or justified.

And even then you better be very CAREFUL and know that if you screw it you are an idiot.

I don't think Lincoln's gut told him it was a good idea to fight a civil war. It was probably too busy being sick over the slaughter.

  • Very well put.

  • Thank you. Ever seen NCIS? Gibbs follows his gut because he never fails. It is just TV but it is a good example of the only kind of person allowed to follow his/her instincts.

  • "keeping it fresh" might have been the key. He thinks Ben was making both shoes look the same... IMO

  • what do you think is the real story is behind the whole "ben" situation? did you see how cryptic colbert got when rose started probing him?

  • Awesome. I love these candid interviews.

  • charlie rose.

  • what's the name of this show?

  • I think it's called "The Charlie Rose Show". Or maybe it's just "Charlie Rose".

  • He's a very nice and genuine guy. I love him! Great interview.

  • Wow. FINALLY I get to see the real person. This is the first time I've ever seen him out of character. XD

  • i adore this man! i'm so glad that he plans to keep on doing what he's doing, because my life would seem boring and far less filled with laughter without him.

  • this is the first time I've heard this side of Stephen. He seems to be a nice and honest person in a real conversation. Colbert is the best !

  • Intelligent, witty, funny, influential, eccentric, imaginative, fresh, and charming.

    I could go on...

  • whose BEN???

  • the producer and one of the writers of the daily show

  • stephen didnt tell us the whole story about ben karlin

  • very refreshing to see the real steven colbert! as a day 1 fan, hell fan b4 jon stewert took over.. REmember 5 questions? craig killborne hosted the show, i watched it back then! tho back with craig it was more celebraty pop culture show than a "fake" news show.

  • What's Kilborne doing these days?

  • My laundry

  • LOL

  • LOL

  • LMAO

  • wow, youd never think he was so intelligent and sincere by watching his show. truly a brilliant man

  • SHMOOOOOOOOZE, I like that word.

  • He is so very lovely in every way.

    <3 <3 <3

  • aww i love helen thomas

  • he is gorgous inside and out.

  • pt 4 is here

  • thats what i'm sayin, i mean thanks to 'colbertbiter' for posting, but why is the word shmooze in front of every clip of colbert's interview?

  • Great interview.

  • Oh, I just found it interesting that he's doing movies now, especially fromt he time he did the Colbert show, & Phil sebben on HBAAL, I thought it'd be a matter of time before he starts appearing in movies, which I expect nothing less from such a great man. Oh & I'm not saying his speech won't "catapult him into movies" but You know what's ironic though jamanticus? I'm not the idiot you expect me to be, or at least, none more of the judgmental person you've literally perfected in being, prick.

  • He didn't need the speech to get movie roles. He co-wrote, co-starred in, and co-produced the movie "Strangers With Candy" (based on an old Comedy Central show he co-created, co-wrote, and co-starred in). He got around a lot before he landed his own show.

  • Ironic he says I wouldn't mind doing movies, he's now in the love guru! Can't wait to see that.

  • that's not ironic. ironic is the disparity between what you expect to happen and what does happen. he says he wouldn't mind being in movies so that gives you an expectation of him being in a movie.

  • ...Yet he doesn't expect that his little speech will catapult him into movies, thus... irony...

  • Stephen seems like an amazingly kind person.

  • he's so thoughtful about everything he says, i love stephen cole-bear! :)

  • I think this speaks volumes about Stephen's integrity as a comedian - to be able to perform as a caricature of the Right and be so articulate and charming out of character. This interview made me like him even more, if that was possible. Thank you! : )

  • great interview! thank you~

  • surely, posting comments on youtube is seeking some sort of attention,no?

  • Surely it is, I mean, look at you.

  • well,quite.

  • The lights are on and everyone's home!

  • Ive never seen him out of charecter...cool

  • yay finally interviews of him out of character! thanks for posting this!

  • he is so awesome in character and out of character.

  • Colbert and Stewart are the coolest comedians ever.

  • Steve is a great man and a great American. The fact that he can bring dialogue, to what we used to call a democracy, by joking around

  • Colbert, Stewart, what great comedic geniuses and human beings; they bring a dignity, responsibility, and sincerity to the entertainment industry that has been degraded by Hollywood and various media news

  • They bring criticism but soften the blow with humor.

I think a lot more people would be offended if the criticism from these two masters of satire was dried of humor.

"We can see further now, for we stand on the shoulders of giants"

  • who is the ben guy they talk about?

  • Ben Karlin was the exec producer of both shows.

  • colbert did family guy too

  • It was The Simpsons, not Family Guy

  • Lies. He did AMERICAN DAD! That's it. Thank you. You gave me a chance to display my greatness once again.

  • dude, wtf? first you said it was family guy, now you say it's american dad. I can even provide links that prove he only did the simpsons.

Go look up season 19 episode 1: He Loves to Fly and He D'ohs....

Stephen Colbert appears as Colby Kraus, who becomes a life coach for Homer.

    Do you feel stupid now?

  • Dude, my intellect on cartoons reaches beyond the Sun and touches Saturn on the far side only to return to earth to complete a full size puzzle of the universe... in braille.

But I was mistaken on the first run... it was American Dad, other performances I know nothing of.

  • That actually makes me laugh, good work man.

  • now i'm laughing too. thanks i forgot that comment, i was so high then.

  • No he was on American Dad as Dr. ... something or other.

  • Also, Colbert appears on American Dad as Dr. Dandliker, Not Family Guy

  • he is also Phil Ken Sebben on Harvey Birdman Attorney at Law on Adult Swim... funny stuff

  • I think he is also the shrink ray guy too.

  • stop being stupid. do you know what 'schmooz' means?

  • Stephen Colbert is an American Hero. I challenge anyone to competently question or defy that statement. He's smart, he's funny, and he's got brass motherfucking balls. Watch his roast of Bush - he's got the confidence to say what he means and put a fun spin on it.

  • I am Canadian, and Stephen Colbert is incedibly popular here as well (Jon Too) so her is not just an american hero, but a world hero!

  • what a great interview!

  • wow- you almost formed a complete and coherent sentence there. Keep trying and someday you may even get to complete and coherent thoughts!

  • hahah

  • Charlie Rose is the man about the best interviewer I have ever seen, except Dick Cavett, and Im serous about Cavett. Cavett has the same intelect that Rose has. Admire both!!

  • good observation. the set and the tone is conducive to a more cerebral, rational discussion. No flashing lights, no theme music, no posturing, and Charlie doesn't shout down his guests like o'reily. That guy has issues!

PBS is not party to heavy funding from corporations. They are publicly funded through donations and do not have to worry about marketing and advertisements, so they are not trying to sell you anything, they are trying to inform you.

  • ...if you like intelligent dialogue, turn off o'reily and listen to Charlie Rose

    ...its on PBS

  • i agree. one of the many differences between bill and charlie is a thick thick dual layer of BULLSHIT that is in nonexistence in charlie's show. charlie is truly stripped down....look at the plain black background.

  • Amen to that brother... and also Bill Moyers, and indeed, Jon Stewart. He says he's not a journalist, and it is satire, but I can see through all the humor to what they are saying with it and they ARE telling us what is going on - Stewart through honest mockery and Colbert through hilarious send-up/illustration of the inane... God bless both of them.

  • Well when you don't have to feed a giant ego like O'reilly does, you can get down to a lot more interesting conversations.

  • Who is this host?

  • Charlie Rose

  • Yeah, and his show posts interviews to youtube....better than watching it piecemeal like this.
