@bigboy45454545 It's "believe", not "belief" and "God", not "Gawd". Education is the key to better grammar and spelling skills :)
I have no delusions to recover from. A natural wave, as opposed to a tanker wave, is usually wind-generated, and physical laws set the air molecules in motion. If there are laws governing the motion of particles, then it is self-evident that there is also a Lawmaker. I believe in God the Father, almighty maker of Heaven and Earth, and I hope you will too.
@ichthmus153 You got me on my grammatical error all right. I could delete the comment so I won't look so foolish I guess, but I won't. I have some questions for you. Could you please point out this "Lawmaker" which I could only assume you're suggesting give the laws to our universe? This is not self-evident as you say. Are you saying that you know more on this topic then Physicists who actually spend lifetimes studying this field? Where did you get your degree from? Belief isn't knowledge.
@bigboy45454545 The Lawmaker is the same God described in Scripture, and He is as obvious as the physical laws He put in place. You are right, belief isn't knowledge, but belief in God and His word along with a good dose of knowledge about His handiwork results in the most reasonable explanation of life, Earth, and everything else. There will always be a lot of mysteries, such as where matter came from in the first place. To say there was no First Cause to create matter is to deny the obvious.
@ichthmus153 You just said what I said. You said that "beliefs are not knowledge." But then even after saying this you still try and argue that they are. I'm face-palming as fast as I can. What evidence do you have for this creator you speak of? What evidence do you have that this so-called creator is even the Gawd of the bible. Hinduism has a Creation myth and their own Gawds and is far older than your religion. First cause has been debunked. What created your God in this first cause argument?
@bigboy45454545 Actually, I did not try to argue that beliefs are the same thing as knowledge. What I did try to do was explain that beliefs and knowledge work together. First cause has never been debunked, and I don't believe anything created God. He is as real as gravity, even though I can't touch or see either one. Believing God made stuff is a whole lot more reasonable than "nothing made stuff". If you want to believe that "nothing made stuff", then feel free to, but I think that is foolish.
@ichthmus153 "Nothing made stuff" is a strawman argument. A strawman is an attempt to argue with a false claim. This way you don't have to refute the real argument. First cause says that everything has a cause and a creator. If this is so then what is the cause of your God and who created your God? Understand that with the universe science say "we don't know" where the universe came from and why there is matter and energy rather than nothing. The disgrace is saying you know when you don't.
@bigboy45454545 You are right, science can't tell us where the universe came from and why matter and energy exist. So obviously there is a whole lot more to life than what science can reveal. I believe God reveals himself through His word and His works. Scripture says He has always been around, that nothing made Him, that He made all of it, and I believe it. I don't believe Him because of overwhelming scientific proof of His existence, but because He gave me (and you?) faith to believe.
@ichthmus153 Why should I believe anything Scripture says? Are talking snakes, rib-women and living in whales or large fish in you like part of the truth and overwhelming scientific proof you're talking about in the Scriptures? The truth is there's no reason to believe any of it, but you're free to believe what you want of course. This conversation can more then likely only go down hill, so I'm going to bail unless you want to dazzle me with more nonsense. Say hello to Jesus in the sky for me.
@bigboy45454545 Either the Bible is true or it isn't. If it is true, then it is giving us an historically accurate picture of past events, some of which can be explained by science, others that can't. Science can't explain where the universe came from, and it can't explain a virgin birth. Yet here we are with loads of evidence that we are in a universe, and loads of evidence that Jesus Christ was born to a virgin named Mary. Just because we can't explain it all doesn't mean it didn't happen.
@ichthmus153 Christian Mythologies of virgin births and Gods sacrificing themselves for the false claims of original sin of two people in a magic garden is always fun. It's quite easy to explain now that you asked me. You see there's no evidence of such supernatural things, as the supernatural isn't real. The explanation is that these tales were all dreamed up. What's really amazing is that people believe these tales without evidence because the bible says so. Still waiting for evidence.
@bigboy45454545 Just saying "there is no evidence" over and over does not make something true. There is truth in legends, but which ones? Are all of them true, none of them, or some of them? Here's a question for you: Is the universe one, or is the universe many. Is it both one and many, or is it neither? Pick one, and tell me why you chose it.
@ichthmus153 It's not known at this time if the universe is one or many. This is because science on the matter is honest, unlike religion making claims that magic Gawds created the universe. All with no evidence for this of course. What difference does it make if we live in single universe or a multiverse? The only answer you're looking for is "Gawd done it." This is an alternate scientific theory (not even that, because of no evidence) and it's incorrect. Extraordinary claims require evidence.
@bigboy45454545 What is dishonest is making claims that everything was not created. It is like trying to say that Nikon does not make Nikon cameras, that they just "poofed" into existence by chance, and Nikon user's manuals were made by delusional goat herders.
You really should change your thinking on this. It's okay to say "God did it", and then go be the best scientist the world has ever known. What nobody can say is "how God did it", other than what He reveals. Make sense?
@ichthmus153 Created by who or what then? Science says we don't know at this time. Only answer the who or what of the creation of the universe if you have evidence to back your claim. Anything else is dishonest. It's one of the most profound questions in science. Easy religious answers because you "really really" want it to be true doesn't cut it. Science doesn't understand how the rules of physics work either. Maybe this is just how things had to be, and the universe exists? It's unknown.
@bigboy45454545 I think your biggest misunderstanding is that you are confusing science and natural history. Science can't answer questions about past events. "Science" will never know who or what. "Created by who or what?" is not a profound science question. The most obvious thing about life, Earth, and the Universe is that it looks created. I assume God made it, not because I was there and have great scientific "proof", but because He gave me faith to believe. He can make you believe, too.
@ichthmus153 Make all the assumptions you like, Including Gawds. The closer one gets to the most profound questions of the universe, the easier it is to cast off the assumptions of Gawds. And by "one" I mean experts who have gained more knowledge and dropped all assumptions for mathematics and models and a better understanding of physics then any layman. Stephen Hawking for one. His understanding would be that Gods are impossible. That's no disrespect to any God, that's the reality.
@bigboy45454545 Don't you see that you are making assumptions, too? You are assuming that God is not real, and that what He reveals about Himself in Scripture is not true. Everybody makes assumptions, including you, Stephen Hawking, and every scientist that ever tried to model some natural process. And you are also forgetting about faith. Faith is a gift from God (Ephesians 2:8-9). You either believe Him or not. You should read more than what Stephen Hawking has to say about God.
@ichthmus153 I'm not mistaken, the mistake is yours. The history of dinosaurs is a natural one. Science found an understanding of that, more or less. Try casting your assumptions aside. What if science "assumed" a God created the universe? But then later a natural explanation was found for the universe? What then? Knowledge is always required for an understanding of anything. Otherwise assumptions without evidence can easily make anyone wrong. Try learning more about what science is?
@bigboy45454545 Natural historians (not scientists) either assume that God created different kinds of things, or He didn't. They use these assumptions to interpret the evidence they find buried in the ground. Interpretations of past events are based on assumptions. Scientific models make assumptions. Please identify for me just one scientific model that makes no assumptions.
Also, knowledge AND faith in Christ work together to help us understand. Reject Christ, and you miss half the story.
@ichthmus153 Please try learning more about science. You can easily break down my understanding of many things because I'm not an expert. "God of the gaps" doesn't prove anything but an unwillingness to have a closer look of real knowledge. To my understanding at this point, a God has never been the explanation for anything. This all started with "God waves." A little more knowledge would lead you to better understanding of waves and many other things. I'm not a science teacher. Hit the books.
@bigboy45454545 Yes, I know you are not an expert, so perhaps it is not me who needs to "hit the books" as much as you? We can understand many things by using the scientific method (a method founded by a Christian). We can apply mathematics (the greatest mathematician ever, Leonhard Euler, was a Christian) in our pursuits of pure and applied science. We can understand many things this way, but we can also make sense of our world by God's gift of faith. The gift is free for you to accept, or not.
@ichthmus153 Come on now? If you knew anything about science you'd know that the scientific method has nothing to do with beliefs. When science came into being "everyone" was Christian because of blaspheme laws at that time. Making almost all scientists at the time Christians. I'm not going to continue so squabble with a person devoid of understanding of the history of science combined with deep beliefs because of a need to believe. Pick up some books on Physics and the universe. Take care.
@bigboy45454545 I already knew this, but you are right, the scientific method was created by man, not God, and anyone can do science.
You talk as if science is your god, that is actually kind-of sad. Science never "came into being", science is simply about questioning, and people have always been doing that. Francis Bacon just wrote down some stuff about doing science research in an organized and God-honoring way. History shows knowledge increased because of Christians, not in spite of them.
@TheodoreJudah No, deadly tsunamis are not god-made, they are God-made. Seems reasonable and perfectly fair to me that the Creator of life has authority on when life begins and when it ends. We may not always like His timing though.
@ThatDinosaurMan You are correct, gods like mother nature, alla, buddha, etc., don't make waves, but God does! He is the First Cause, and the physical laws He put in place can help us predict when and where to go tanker surfing. Pretty awesome when you think about it....
