Most people fail to see Javert as more than a fairly one-dimensional character. In fact, he is one of the most complex characters ever written, and comes to a point where he cannot reconcile his perception of Valjean as an evil convict with Valjean's inherent goodness that he witnesses at the barricades. He is no longer able to act lawfully as it would corrupt his morals, which he had always considered to be the same as the law. Therefore, he takes himself out of the equation.
@steffxdarling well i agree with the contrast, but stars and this song is the contrast you dont need to do extra. Besides does he really hate Valjean or mabey he is jealous that his is so loyal to god and kind? or maybe he is confused why Valjean breaks the law but is loved? I mean he is killing himself because he disobeyed his own loyalty to the law? i just think that it should have to be that mean.
I think this is way to mean at the beggining. Everyone i have ever know on youtube always plays javert to mean. Ya he is unswerving from the law but not like CRAZY IN THE COCO NUT!
Yeh, should have found a way to hold out the "home" but it would have to be a long computer sustain otherwise you would hear the "thump" in his voice when he hit the pad...
@circuitmedic Its"on" he says "there is no way to go on" saying "no way to go home" is stupid and how is that relevant, more importantly were did you get that from?

Javert just doesn't understand or comprehend mercy. His world is defined by justice with no place for mercy.

I liked the variation from Broadway better, where they slowly lifted the Bridge while Javert played a long fall with the original long "Hooooome".

@bambibamboule yeah same in West End.
They lifted the bridge up and effectrs also make it look awesome too :)
Also we had JOJ (JOhn-Owen-Jones) who was EPIC as Valjean
