The situation you are in is your fault. You didn't do due dilligence on the property value, took out a mortgage you couldn't afford (let me guess - interest only?) and defaulted.
The government appraises your house so they can collect more tax. The bank appraises your house to calculate their risk. You appraise your house so you can get the best value for your money.
There is no master price list for all houses. A house is worth what someone will pay for. You obviously made a serious error in judgement on a) whether you could actually afford the mortgage payments and b) what a good price to pay the house was.

We had the same common statement made to us(they had to use the appraiser from their approved appraiser list by BB&T's loan manager.We loan mgr. of our plans to hire a second appraiser to protect our interest,"no need the bank won't make a loan on a building that won't protect it's interest.According to the DPOR of Virginia.The appraiser can have anyone go take pic's of your residents that your about to purchase.They don't have to do anymore then that.

The value of the property was inflated 136% by using fraudulent appraisal.
If you wold like, I can send you a copy of the actual appraisal that was used to close my loan.
Even if in your opinion, I did not do my due dillegence, it does not give anyone the right to break the laws and commit fraud.
I requested an appraisal before purchasing the property, as admitted by te loan officer under oath.
