i love Jane Austen both the books and the movies lol but if i met a guy with those sideburns ...........lol id wax them ......but i love how these movies and books make you feel like a little girl wanting to be swept off your feet ...hopefully into a mans broad chest loll
From the first time I saw this movie I thought that Willoughby (Greg Wise) was such a cute guy and I understood Marianne (Winslet) fancing him but when Willoughby and Brandon (Rickman) are face to face in 7:39 I couldn't help but love Brandon. He's taller, stronger and more elegant (in all senses). Anyway, what two handsome men to choose for, lucky Marianne! Almost the same option that had Emma Thomson. Very close friend of Alan Rickman and wife of Greg Wise, lol. Smart woman, Thomson...
Here I summon all members of Rickman's Army to vote for him as Best Supporting Actor for the Spike TV 2011 Scream Awards. Let's show the world what Rickmaniacs can do!!!
I enjoy this movie but it's so slow. And Mrs. Jennings is scary with her pushing. Glad at least that they got to be around happy people. Fanny has no heart. I just feel so sorry for women of the time. They couldn't make money or be educated.
lol I never thought of that but you're right about mother's and Jane Austen. Maybe those were the only mother's she knew of at the time. Women desperate to get their girls married off well. Imagine having five babies and the husband in the other room praying for an heir. It would have been a big thing. My own mother wanted me to marry my first boyfriend. He had a super job and would have lots of $. I said I didn't love him and she said it would come in time! YUK
Lucky Marianne!

Ahhh, I'd be psyched too if a man knew Shakespeare's work off by heart... but still, gotta go with Alan.

@Songsmirth Indeed, Mrs. Jennings is enough to scare a man off from one of the young ladies.
But then mothers never seem to be portrayed as rational beings in Jane Austen.
