  • You guys need to check out Bertha from 2-5-78 uni dome coliseum, cedar falls, Iowa

  • You'd think after all these years she'd get the message and not come around here anymore.

  • working mans dead album. I think thats it.

  • It takes a driving, pounding, kickass BASS to really bring out the best in "Bertha" and, unfortunately, it's hard to find that on any of the YouTube posts. I remember, back in the early 70's, having (I think) a double album that just had a shit kicking "Bertha" with a bass that would rattle your underwear to your knees by the end of the performance. Someone help me here, which recording am I looking for???????????????

  • @MrRonnieG the recordings you are looking for are on archive.org. I assume you are familiar with the site, but I would give a try listening to any highly-downloaded recordings for the songs you want to hear. There are some real treasures that never made it to vinyl/cd. Many times the comments will say things like "phil is dropping bombs in this recording" or "this is a phil recording". Those are the shows you want!

  • @MrRonnieG This was on Skull and Roses, which came out in '71

  • I saw them in the 80s-90s. Almost the same.

  • we need bands like this again

  • i always wanna dance all flapper-like when I hear this song ..(so secretely i do)

  • We could roll away the dew from blumpkins when hanging with Larry Craig!

  • have they ever played "ducked into novoto" live?

  • The main riff of this songs and "Jenny Artichoke" by Kaleidoscope are pretty similar. Which came first? I think Jenny Artichoke is early 1968. When was Bertha written?

By the way, I really like both songs.

  • Oh, THANK YOU !

  • What a smokin' version of this "signature"number by them, superb tonally, and the energy of it has me blown away!... best version I've ever heard!!.. thanx for posting this piece.

  • Love it.

  • btw there is no studio version of Bertha..

  • true story... Me and my bud was at one show (couldn't tell u exactly which one) but this one guy starting singing ,think he was too cool,( you remember the type) and when they came to the part TEST ME TEST ME TEST ME HE SANG TESTIE,TESTIE,TESTIE,...lmfao... i KNOW YOU HAD TO BE THERE BUT IT'S STILL FUNNY AS FUCK WHEN i THINK ABOUT IT. peace everyone,15 YEARS ALREADY mISS MY BROTHER'S AND SISTERS :) oUR LOVE will NOT FADE AWAY:) Happy B-day Jerry!!!!

  • Was it at spac?

  • probably my favorite version. Live Dead is always better than studio Dead.

  • indeed my friend, indeed

  • very speedy version

  • This is sick, BUT SKULL AND ROSES ALL THE WAY BABY!!!!!

  • @Chezoryan Greeting BrotherSister. Can you please tell me the origins of the Skull and Roses? I have thought about it for years now so please put me out of my misery oh yes what about the bears. Thanks very much. More power to all you deadheads, love XX

  • @wobbly585 the dancing bear has to do with owsley stanley(spelling?) i guess thats what he looked like when dancing... dont know bout the skull n roses tho

  • @amsy43 The origins of the skull and roses are as follows, designed by Stanley Mouse and Alton Kelley

using original engravings from the 26th stanza of the Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam.

  • @amsy43 owsley's nickname was "the bear". and i guess its a marching bear, not dancing like most ppl think

  • I saw the vid for this on a rock fest on VH1 they were playing it on beat club back in '72

  • I like the version on Skull & Roses, personally.
