First they solve the centers and edges. Then the last part is just normal 3x3 which is less looking ahead and looking for pieces. that's why they are going faster at the end

you start with center to get the 2 x2, then u make sides of those centers, and u basically have a 3 x 3 right there, then solve.

i bought a 4x4 and it exploded everywhere about the 3rd time i did it. I ordered it on ebay as well and took 2 weeks to arrive - SO annoying! haha. I'm not a proper cuber though (or whatever) i can do the 3x3 in about 1.10, usually 1.20 - are the quicker methods really complicated to learn? I just use 1 where i do top, then bottom then middle line. what's the name of a quick method? maybe i should ask on a 3x3 video too!

i use jessica firedrich's method and i usually do under 40 sec without having practiced much. I'm not an actual speedcubist but i think its a pretty fast method although you need to learn about 80 algorithms(took me about 2 weeks since i bought my cube).

in order to solve the 4x4 you have to make the centers and edges, then solve it like it's a 3x3. just doing the centers and edges makes it harder than the 3x3 (though not much) but then on top of that there's parity, which could be a major pain in the ass. It's when at the end of your solve you have, say, two edges that are switched into the wrong places, a single edge pair oriented the wrong way, and some with the croners that I thankfully don't have to deal with because of the way i solve it.

I believe it is called the reduction method. First, he solves all the center pieces. Then, he matches up the edges. Then, he just solves it like a regular 3x3x3. This method works on any cube bigger than 3x3x3. The only issue you really have to deal with is parity issues.
