Still they ARE basically the ones who started this style of metal.  Nearly all of today's power metal were influenced by those 2 bands. Go check out some interviews. Obviously its not the same but its hard to fail seeing some important similarities (the vocals, the style of guitar play).

Those two bands influenced a shitload other bands, not only Power Metal. They shouldn't be classified as Power Metal gods because they didn't play the style. Sure, they have contributed immensly but so did the entire NWOBHM scene. They didn't start the genre, they just influenced it greatly.
