I just got mine! After Implanon and other bc options, I decided that hormones weren't right for me. Thank you for the information! I'm happy so far. It's only been a week. The painful insertion was rough, but the Implanon was much worse!!! I gained tons of weight on the Implanon and was miserable. Depression, mood swings, etc. I'm 27 and married but don't want kids, but I'm not ready for sterilization...
@SingBlueSilverDearie No, I haven't experienced any weight gain but I haven't experienced weight loss either. You might have a bit of bloating for the first month or two. There's always a chance that you could be one of the unlucky people who has a less than stellar experience. Hormonal BC comes with it's own laundry list of awful possibilities. :( It's good that you are weighing this all in your decision. I wish you the best of luck! Please feel comfortable asking any other questions you have!
I agree with u young kids are going to have sex and it is better to have protection than not to. Thanks for posting ur video it helped me. It makes me feel better about getting it.
THANK YOU so much for posting this informative video! Really appreciate it! Like you I did not know there was a non hormornal birth control out there... Again Thanks and God Bless
I've been on hormonal BC for 4yrs i had light period too, I stopped taking it for 2mths now. my questions are, whats the time frame the IUD stays inside you? Do u/i have a choice as to how long it stays, because I am 30yrs old & I eventually want kids in a couple years. Also do you have to repeat the insertion procedure every so often? thnx :)
@SuzCuty Depending on what type of IUD you get, the time-frame varies. The Paragard can stay in place for up to 10yrs but you can have it removed at any time and there's nothing to stop you from trying for pregnancy right away. You only have one insertion appointment, thank the lucky stars!
When you have an IUD, were you still able to use tampons? Or instead cups? I use both (not at the moment because I'm pregnant) but I want to get on a non hormonal method. The depo and pills I hated. Hormonal methods are not for me. And when it comes to my period I hate pads.
@sirenpacificus Tampons are no problem at all. As far as cups go, there is a suggestion that cups can lead to expulsion. Though, if you are diligent about breaking the seal...
I wanted to ask whether you find pap smears painful, because I find them incredibly painful & I wondered if this will predict my experience with the insertion of a copper IUD. Is it a similar procedure?
@BeAwareBeFree I've never had a painful exam but the insertion was terrible for me. Others have said it was fine though, it differs from person to person. Sorry, I can't help much with your question. :(
@sapphiraaaa Yes it has but I was aware that it would happen. Hormonal BC tricks us into thinking that 2-3 days is natural. :) I think the Mirena (although it is hormonal, it isn't systemic) is known for stopping a cycle altogether.
Your videos on the Paragard IUD have been great! Disregard any negative comments, keep up the good job getting info out for the rest of us who are interested in this non-hormonal method! :D
I would like to ask u a question my husband is thinking of geting a RIng Down stairs i wonder if he were to get it done would the IUD Come out i dont know if u have had anyone with one on but i was wondering if u could please get back at me thanks alot :)
@Jacqueline22tx The IUD is placed way to high for anything to interfere. You could ask the doctor who placed the IUD to trim the strings short just so you know for sure that there won't be a problem. :)
Thanks for the updates! I have an appointment for June 10th to have an "IUD conference." I've been reading like crazy on iud_divas, and your video has helped me out too. Thanks again.
Thank you so much for your updates! I'm 18 and just got my paraguard insertion yesterday. I was freaking out because I was having some serious cramping, and I felt a bit alone after that horrifying experience. However, your videos are very comforting. It's nice to know that there are people out there who are willing to inform the rest of us about their experiences. Again thank you so much! <3
Do you know why doctors are hesitant to put an IUD in someone who has not had a child?

Hi to ResponsibleBeauty:
I am considering ParaGard and have read so many horror stories and am terrified.
Did you gain weight on ParaGard? I keep hearing that some do, but it's non-hormonal, so that is not supposed to happen.
FWIW, I have never taken any kind of BC before. Nullipara, virgin here.
Also, @ anyone, did you gain weight/have it expel (especially geared towards other nulliparas)?
thanks so much; I have a ton of anxiety over this and appreciate any respectful and honest answer

have you or has anyone else on here had terrible acne since getting the paragard/copper iud fitted?

@TheSoundLink My skin eventually improved, I have no idea if this was due to Paragard though. :)

@Jacqueline22tx There's really no way that a piercing would remove an IUD. :) Ask your Doc about it though.
