ahh....finally! John singing one of my most favorite songs of his ~ thank you so much....this song brings me closer to loved ones on the other side, including him....thanks again
@jadent33 This is one beautiful song. There's only one JD, but you might like to hear a verstion of this song by a group called "Feet on the Ground". I think you'll like it. Enjoy...
I puzzled over the meaning of Singing Skies and Dancing Waters when it first came out. Sounds like a love song but I finally concluded it must be about his ideas or beliefs about God. When I heard this interview I knew I had read it right because John says, "This is a song that relates to what we were talking about," referring to Donahue's question about God right before this song.
Certainly no harm singing it as a love song, though. Thanks for sharing this.
@RnMtthws Actually most of JD's songs including this one have more than one "layer". This has some religious overtones but also the part dealing with him and Annie- ex "laughing children and growing old". He was able to write those simple lyrics that spoke to everyone on different levels so you have to understand his lyrics as having more than more layer of understanding to fully appreciate his songs. Many of Joe Henry's lyrics which JD sang in a number of songs are also the same way.
Masassa, I keep coming back to watch John and Annie on The Phil Donahue Show. It is one of my favorite videos. I think it is the only one I can think of that John and Annie is on together. Thanks again!!!!!!
@coloradokid1997 I thought she looked really happy when he was singing, like she really loved the song and his voice. At the end you see her really smile. And I was thinking about their kids that were 4 and 2 at the time. I think she looked really in love and happy with John. Love this video. Strange I was a huge fan. I had his posters and pic's all over my wall but I don't remember this song or what album it was on. Fleetwood mac was coming out then too.
This has become one of my favorite songs of John's. Just beautiful. I guess because he wrote it for the two of them and the love they shared at the time. I, too, believe that they never stopped loving each other.
@pattykad As Erma, JD's mom said, they always loved each other- just couldn't stay married!! Now if Mom says it, then it has to be true ha!! They were getting along well at the end- even just a day before the crash JD had told Annie- "Oh, but Annie you know I love you" when they last spoke. So they would have most likely always remained close- even if they didn't remarry- which most likely wouldn't have happened but obviously stranger things happen every day so who knows.
Masassa, thank you for posting these wonderful videos. It was so good to see John and Annie. They looked so happy then, but it was only four years later they were divorced. It is a shame they couldn't work things out. I believe that they loved each other even up to the time he was taken from us. Loved the special song he wrote for Annie. I did not realize it was about them either. Great post.
Thanks for posting these videos from Phil Donahue. Such a treat to see John AND Annie together. It's a beautiful song...and watching Annie's expression as he sings is especially touching.
this is just magical....seriously.....he just plays it off the cuff and it still sounds great....

I forgot how much I love "Singing Skies and Dancing Waters", as I haven't heard it it sooo long. Made extra special as Annie was in the audience.

They were just talking about shocking breakups on the radio last week and their
marriage was mentioned. I like to think that if he had lived they would have ended
up together again someday. I just like that story ending best.
