I think the collapse is coming . If it was just Gerald well maybe then it might be B.S. But when so many credible economists say that the present spending is not sustainable and that 50%of private owned Real Estate AND commercial property will be under water in 2 years this tells us that the collapse is coming UNLESS Obama devalues the U.S. dollar in some manner or another. This probably wont save the Republic . Greece is on the verge of collapse . Will Europe save them and risk collapse ?

You're right. Few people are aware that there was a depression in 1920 that lasted only one year because the measures taken were: massive cuts to govt budget/spending, tax cuts to businesses, and capital gains tax cuts for investments. Completely the opposite of the measures taken in every recession since 1929. I encourage people to look this up.

Gold is a commodity that is priced in dollars, so it is affected by supply and demand for the hard commodity as well as the supply and demand of the currency the commodity is valued in - $dollars. So if the dollar falls by 1/2 in value and gold supply/demand remains the same, theoretically gold would increase by 2x.

There is a fantastic trend I am following, I had a dream about products made from recycled products, and the other day I saw a high fashion design in Denmark, made out of recycled rubber inner-tubes from tractors. I mean you can build a fire and cook lentils. I have to say when I was younger and was not "stockpiled" one saving grace for me was when Hurricane Andrew hit was that people just couldn't be bothered with the dry beans and lentils so I scavenged it from the boxes.

At least you have a family and if the power is cut and you lot stick together, things will work out if you get along.
