@traceurhero m8 no way i wanted to be a seaman specialist in a ship or a weapons engineer but i picked a weapons engineer in a submarine for my future career you know why the submariners get paid 300 pounds more than ship crew do you get a hotel in foreign countries paid for by the navy and when u leave the navy you have qualifications to be a technical engineer or a computing technician if i were u id go for what im going for a weapons engineer in the submariners hope that gave an idea

I also served on attack boats and they were even more depressing, you had to share your bed with someone - so when they were on watch you were asleep and vice a versa) and a unhealthy dis-regard for nuclear radiation!I held my dosimeter (personal radiation detector)next to a hot spot (weak part in the radiation shielding) for hours, when the indicators get sent off they display the amount of radiation you are exposed to, my one never came back or I was told my dosage was any higher than normal!

No that's the Royal Navy's number one top tip " if all eles fails turn the O N O F F (say the letters indivdually) switch off. Most of the computer systems onboard ships/submarines are 15+ years old (due to the high level of testing that goes on) systems freeze up due to heat or mis use / age, its as simple as that, my home computer often freezes up.

Its a crap job anyway. Boring with little to do for 12 weeks (16 weeks sometimes) except clean and scrub pointless items, thats the Navy's solution for boredom, if it doesnt move, clean it, that will keep the chaps happy. I did it for 8 years and got so fed up with it. Oh and the money is good by the way I was on £28,000 3 years ago and I was a Able Rate (same as a private in the army).

Its true mate, all the Navy equipment is built to such a high standard it very really brakes down and if does usually the full component equipment has to be replaced and that cant be done till its back in base, its basically simple maintenance what the engineers do when on a tour.
