  • doesnt sound like a 3412 under a rev. must be a LOW hp build.....an 860 hp twin turbo sounds like a locomotive when revved under a load.

  • Impressive! I've seen lot's of 3408's in trucks but this is the first 3412 I have seen. I'm curious to know what transmission can handle the torque?

  • @SuperJuggalo5150 most likely a 5X4 combo or an 15spd with input shaft mods and a serious oil cooler..

  • @nokiaicon I am working on a 3412 out of a D10 where the #3 cylinder dropped 3 valves killed a total of 4 pistons and connecting rods cracked the crank and many other parts not to mention sending metal all through the engine we are estimating between 65 and 70 thousand hope that gives you an idea

  • nice v 12 sounds good idleing that will pull with no problem bob taling it

  • I bet she pulls like a freakin monster!!!

  • still no detroit just sayin

  • get some pussy! what? i was talking about the engine.

  • make some smoke.

  • thats a whole lotta engine

  • You have got love having that big Kitty Cat under hood I bet she will pass most anything but a fuel stop but Dam it might just be worth it

  • You still running this truck

  • I had no idea that such Cat awesomeness was even possible for a road tractor. There are great tears of joy streaming down my face.

  • Awesome truck...love those big ol' Kittys

  • a tear came to my eye as i watched this beautiful yellow motor

  • sweet sound

  • What will it cost to rebuild that

  • I operate a few milling machines on a daily basis with the 3412 cat engine and that is a sound that is music to my ears awesome truck love to see it up close and personal

  • if that is a 1000hp V12 I wonder how much hp the V12 in an off road road logging truck has that routinely hauls 100+ tons of logs

  • @leydenzar thats what some of the offroad logging trucks had the old pacific's had them

  • @leydenzar thats what some of the offroad logging trucks had them, the old pacific's had them

  • it's custom right?

  • torque?

  • I'm guessing that has no Jakes?

  • There only two words you can said about this custom setup "Awesome Peterbilt !!!!"

  • why doesn't it have an intercooler?

  • @ionsunteu Most likely reason is packaging. Where would you put it? And where would you get the frontal area for air flow to make it effective. A truck only has so much frontal area to work with, and cooling this V-12 is probably already quite a challenge. Look at the radiators on Cat V-12's on gen sets and oil field rigs to see what I mean. The radiators are usually close to 10-feet square.

  • @JGMagoo thanks for answering!

  • @JGMagoo I think it might be jacket-water aftercooled because if you look at the box on top of the engine where the turbo intakes go, it looks a lot like the aftercooler on my 3408.

  • Bet you can pass anything but a fueling station with that hot rod!

  • Cat's 12v71 Dogtroit killer! Anyone remember the purple Allis Chalmers engines?

  • @rorschach1911 Hey! the 12v71 is a LEGEND! Don't be back trash talkin it!......plus the 12v71 is 1/2 the size of a 3412

  • @rorschach1911 Yes. They were called "Big Al"!

  • @rorschach1911

I Do.. "Big Al, the truckers pal"... "Purple Demon".. made there appearance in the mid 70's along with the K(T) Cummins. Not very reliable

  • Because that cat engine is 27 litres, is the radiator big enough for the engine. As there is only so much space you have to work with when fitting an engine of that size in to a Peterbilt extended hood.

  • wow so where most trucks would be doing 40 you'd be doing 80.

That's just nuts! (in other words, good job!)

  • this is amazing dude, aweome job!

I have a freightliner with 3406 and it's great but I sure wouldn't mind having another 6 cylinders

  • who did the repower on it it looks to have ben very nicely done

  • is this truck in any sort of collector truck cards cuz i think i have one with it in it

  • very nice, stright pipes?

  • Nothing runs like a Deere, except a Cat.The definition of Torque is when you get up in the morning with a piss hardon, push down on it to go in the sink and your heels come up.Dozer engines rule!P.S.Engines are fuel fed, motors are Electric.Peace

  • how much lb ft of tq?

  • @xxbal1inxx 3412 does about 1600rpm on power ban so 1000Hpx5252=5252000 5252000/1600rpm=3283Ftlbs

  • the new six cylinders will produce just as much power these days as this engine with half the cylinders and a few mods

  • @MrHandyandy10187

And last half as long, your smaller engines have only so many horsepower hours per displacement, and by todays standards, the steel used in these engines, well wasn't as crappy and well just higher quality as cast castings, most of steel we get now to build comes from china, and other foreign countries where the impurites are higher, if this guy were to ever rebuild it, it would be well worth the money to try and locate surplus cat parts v.s now adays off the shelf junk.

  • 萌え☆

  • wooow awsome 1000hp 5/5

  • now there is an engine that will spank a kt cummins.. lol

  • @whb1965 The cat is also a v12...........

  • the 3408 is a beast, i bet this thing is absolutely awesome.. i didnt even know you could get this in a truck.. what type of tranny and rearends can stand this much torque????

  • @whb1965 its a 3412, 3408 is a v-8

  • @whb1965 this is a 3408 with 4 more cylenders

  • I have never been so jealous in my life......

  • you really hear tho's Turbo's Spool @ the end 38 40sec's not bad for a Peterbuilt... Cat Power..! :)

  • How many mpg do you get with this? 2? 3?

  • No Intercooler? It could probably use one:)

    Great looking engine!!! Cat Power!

  • @60POWERSTROKE73 this engine has an intercooler, it's a water jacket, not air to air

  • What Cat 3412 is this? Because the 3412E is much better than the C, but i don't know if the E fits in a truck.

Although, I didn't even know that a 3412 fits in a truck anyways....

    Great Engine!

  • super!!!!!!!!!!

  • I hate to ask what kind of fuel mileage you get!? That's like having 2x 3406s

  • Now thats a proper well built Pete! 5star

  • whats the torque specs for that engine?

  • @09adge13 This engine has 4 power settings that can be changed by CAT for 2500.00 CDN. 900-1140 BHP. Not sure what the torque is.

  • There aint no replacement for displacement

  • got jakes on it?

  • @alex189100 is that a real question off course it does buddy

  • You could pull the stink outta shit with this cotton picka here now. This better than Viagra. Cat porn...Yeh baby!!!

Where abouts this ol' fella out of??

  • hell yeah i've only seen 3412's in generators or marine apps

  • 400 500 HP?

  • 1000 HP twin turbo

  • @liitleal

are these common in america or is this for extra heavy loads?

  • @liitleal Ohhhh im envous lol :D that sound = :D

  • Comment removed

  • @mccrackenphillip a 3406 version of this motor makes 400-425 hp this is double those firgues in hp and torque its basically 2 3406B blocks in a V confirguration if ya think about. i tihnk its also 28L i kno the 3406 engines are 14.6L

  • @Unlimited3406 v8 and v12 diesels make less torque than their inline counterparts, just the nature of the engines. a 450 hp 3408 made only 1300lbs of torque at 1300 rpm, whereas a 3406C made 1650lbs of torque but was only 425 hp.

  • @twinc16 well i do like the 3406 thats a nice engine

  • @twinc16 nature my ass, its just nobody throws enough air to the larger V8 and V12 diesels to make any real torque. the 3408 is a freaking 18L for christ's sake you cant compare V8 and V12 to an I6 when the displacements are totally different and the larger of the two has no where near the amount of air charge per cubic inch of displacement it should have.

  • whats the knocking sound and whistle from?

  • IT's a diesel. They all knock. It's called detination cause the fuel air charge is ignited from the heat of compression. The smallest diesel truck is running 16" compression. More than any race car can use. The whistle is from the turbos spooling up. Even in a street car the turbos spin at over 22,000 rpm. They tend to whistle a lot.

  • I am aware of that part of it. However it didn't sound like the normal knocking and whistling to me,it sounded different

  • @wannalayya It may be what they call a PC or Pre-Combustion Chamber engine. There is a small secondary combustion chamber in the head where the combustion process begins. To me it just sounds like a normal CAT engine of it's era. It is more like a DI or Direct Injection engine. The PC's have a pretty distinctive clatter which seems more pronounced from what I remember then this engine. Maybe the poster will state if this is a PC or DI engine.

  • I see thank you

  • kblackav8or... its IDI engines indirect injection which yes it has precombustion chambers you are correct. i'm just clarifling your "PC"

  • TTDI

  • commercial diesels use a lot more than a 16 to 1 compression ratio. more like 22 or 23 to 1

  • @MattytheDem Read the post again. I said the smallest engines use 16t to 0ne.

  • Not true. Most direct injected diesels have 15-17 to 1 compression, the highest is the new DD15 Detroit at around 18 to 1. Pre chamber style diesels have the real high compression ratio to make up for the themal losses and to improve startability of that design.

  • @earsneyes1 you're exactly right. The 3412C is 14.5 to one CR.

  • @MattytheDem matty only the smallest non - turbocharged diesels have 22 to 23 to 1 cr. if they had it this high with turbochargers they could never offer a factory warranty on the engine . it just would not hold up in commercial business. as strong as a diesel is compared to a gasoline engine they still have limitations

  • @MattytheDem go ahead an build a 22-23:1 compression engine. You'll be just like Rudolf Diesel and if you're lucky, you'll survive like he did after he almost blew himself up.

  • @wannalayya the knocking was just normal diesel detonation. that "whistle" wasn't the turbos as the engine rpm came back down, it was more likely that the brake saver was engaged just a bit

  • 重そうだぁね。。。

    萌え☆

  • my money is on the v-12 cat

  • Now what we need is somebody to put a 1710 cu in Cummins V-12 in conventional truck like this. Then compare em.

  • THAT THING IS BEAST AS SH!T

  • I want it ! wonder if it takes a lot of modifications to fit ?

  • most rigs were designed fo v8, little secret about our economy. the straight six, so commonly found started in a ww2 gov't paid highway build machinery. The twelve is just a little bigger, alot of trucks can take it. The history is grotesque, I have relative tortured by it...30 years. Gotta love those twin stacks for an inlne six..it is as silly as it sounds, pun intended.

  • Hey mate, That is one beautiful truck you got there and a very awesome motor in it. I would love to see some footage from inside the cab if you can swing it.

Thanks for posting it on here.

  • How meny liters?

  • 27 liters = 1649 C.I.D.

  • I'm impressed...I love Cat engines,

    den again...`Ai one Welda,an' Welda'z love Cat Big V'z...lidat!!!

  • Not one Cat ever broke on me, & I'm the 1st Big Island Hawaiian from Waimea to drive with-um. 1st was a 3408 @ 650hp single turbo,

the rest were 3406B's from the WJAC-ATAAC...CAT RULEZ!!!!!

    Still "KING of the HILL!!!!!"

  • Hey LittleAl, Now I gotta get one of those!!!

Take it to the Pulls & kick some A**!!!

  • i like caterpillers but detroits are my favorite engines

  • Now what would a 12 year old know about caterpillar and cummins. Go back to playschool or I'll get your dad to paddle your butt.

  • @bullcrapfinder Dont hate... some children/adolescents know alot. I've installed pistons and conrods in a detroit 4-53 properly and I'm 14 (it's my hobby).

  • @Bamchucknorris a good hobby to have i must admit. take any video of it? ( love watching stuff like that)

  • @yamahonkawazuki unfortunately no... i got the opportunity at a machine shop and i didnt have youtube on my mind so no cameras unfortuantely....

  • @bullcrapfinder yeah, alot of stupid kids make us who know shit look bad. But at 12 I knew quite a bit about cat and cummins (im 14 know)

  • @2strokedetroit You're 14 now...not "know". Bet you didn't "no" that did you?

  • @NeilLB7 man fuck off you dont need to be a douchebag

  • @NeilLB7 oh P.S. have fun replacing the injectors on your lb7

  • @nicknvnny107 Thats kinda funny considering that we have a 3406B in an International gravel truck with 950,000 miles on it and it's only had one minor in-frame rebuild. We had a 300 cummins with 800,000 that was rebuilt once, and by the time we got rid of it, it was going through 2 1/2 gallons of oil a day. We still have the 3406B.

  • @1973RoadRunner440 sry i have o idea what ur talking bout cuz my friends dad was talking idk anything bout this stuff

  • funny i should run onto this comment because that happened to our 3406 in a coe freightliner one broke by the time i got back to the shop a handful followed suit

  • Cummins cant hang with Cats son

  • No but i personally think cummins sounds better especially the small cam 350s and big cam 400s

  • They do have that mellow bellow don't they,

  • Don't worry son, cummins still get plenty of trouble with the signatures.

And they haven't made KTs for the highway for years

  • hey by the way man is this a single or a dual turbo set up?

  • They got twin turbos. 1 turbo for each side

  • woow i cant beleieve i just asked that i worked around a bunch of CBI machines with 3412 and i saw the dual turbos on them lol i cant ebleieve i didnt tihnk of that im sry i asked hahah

  • i bow before the god that is caterpillar!!! curious how much torque and when? 2800 lb ft at 1800 i guess

  • holy shit. I have never seen one run in a rig. Wrong aspect ratio or not, amazing..of course it is a personal daydream.

  • sounds good

  • wooow man thats sick ive always lovedthose 3412's what kinda of numbers is it pushing out 800 mabe more?u gotta get more vdeos of it this is extremeley rare

  • it does have a unique sound to it. I will try to get some inside vid when I get a chance

  • @liitleal ive heard a few cat loaders sound like this. they must have that motor in them

  • Very nice Al! I'm sure that thing just drinks the diesel like no tomorrow but who cares! It different from everybody else. I'm sure people would be shocked if you told them that you had a V12 under the hood.

  • I bet a lot of guys would think "I know it's a Cat because of the gear train whine, but it ain't a six, nor is it a V8, what the hell is it !"

  • You don't see them everyday Al........looked up in the book and it's 27 liter or 1649 cu. in.! Makes our 3408s look small !

  • that one big cat under that hood real cool video
