love lord of the ring, but ppl there was no meaning or mythology involved when tolkein wrote the books. all he wanted was a fiction story for entertainment. and as far and the racism crap remember that it was written after WW I and tolkein was german he fought in the trenches during the war. and he hated the idea of it being some kind of comparison to any world issues. IT IS A FANTASY STORY INTENDED FOR ENTERTAINMENT thats all. so stop complicating it with all ur philosophy crap and politics.

If the entire enemy army was made up of black people and Salron was Martin Luther king jr, then I would see your point. But it's not. In most mythology darkness stands for evil.
