phil is a rising star and many ppl like him but as soon as he has a lil success out of no where he will be called all kinds of insults.kinda like jon jones in the beginning he was cool then once he starts getting noticed he's all of a sudden cocky and not that good.same happened faber.
@xolloy01 I hope Jon Jones does well for himself, he seems to have alot of potential and now has a title shot, I know Rashad got hurt and they needed a fill in but i don't think Jones deserved it. He has looked impressive in all his fights, but hasnt beaten enough top guys to fight for a title in my mind, i hope he beats shogun though.
@jpdeschaine no i agree, he definitely has the talent to be the champion and now that he is no one can really say anything, but before the fight you could definitely make an argument that there were more deserving guys in the division then jones at the moment. either way jones would of won it eventually in his career, he's lucky he got the opportunity to get it so young.
@Synetik4 him versus rashad is gonna be crazy because only another excellent wrestler can beat jon jones i think so only rashad or a more experienced phil davis could beat him in my mind unless someone hits him on the button and knocks him out
@jpdeschaine anyone can beat anyone in MMA, the LHW division is so stacked that people outside the top 10 are also title contenders, no one thought chuck would ever lose, and he did, no one thought rashad would lose and he did, no one thought machida would lose and he did, and so on....I hope jones has a long reign, but this division is stacked that anyone could be the champion and i wouldnt be surprised
I like his assessment of himself. He knew that he needed to tighten up his overall game and improve his BJJ.
In a stacked division like 205, Davis is gonna need to have a well-rounded skill set and his recognition of that shows maturity and intelligence. Plus Phil seems like a pretty humble guy, so I wish him continued success in his career.
He is a stud but he should fight on some smaller shows. His submissions were not on point. But when he learns how to close the show he will be real good.
to get more expierence first, he dominated a lower level ufc fighter that has no ground game. When he steps up to the B level fighters(Hamil,Munoz) he wont have that edge in wrestling and he needs his other skills to be on point. Please dont take this as a diss towards Phil He seems like a nice humble guy and if he is brought along at the right speed he will be a star,But he has to learn how to finish
@chrisv4321 Nobody at the smaller shows will fight him. He was like a Yeti around the East Coast, lots of rumors, never any confirmed sightings. Dude wanted to fight, but nobody would step in with him.
I could see why lol His wresling is so good he would crush any other lower level fighter.I just hope the UFC and his management bring him along slowely
They not dodging because of his monster wrestling. They're dodging because there's no pressure at the regional level to book tough fights. A loss to Phil Davis around here is worth more than a win to most other 205's, but managers and fighters only want to fight minnows so that Joe Silva see's they're whatever and 0. Really frustrating for me, since I'd rather go to a regional show than watch a UFC PPV.
Ha....Mazigatti comes creeping up. Haha! @2:06

An eventual fight between Phil Davis and Jon Jones would be amazing. As they say, styles make fights.

why would he fight in the smaller shows if he can dominate fighters like that in the UFC.

@tomasasaz yeah exactly, his debut was great. why would he go down a step and fight for a small show. he has the potential to be huge in the UFC
