@Ashie1623:15 is the Android Invasion, 3:18 (if you mean the clip where he puts his hands to her head) is The Hand of Fear, and 3:26 (the hug) I'm pretty sure is Genesis of the Daleks. :)
The Doctors all had different relationships with Sarah Jane. Three thought of her (and Jo) as a daughter, Four as his best friend, and Ten as the one who got away. I guess she was an old friend with 11, but that was more Jo's moment.
Actually, I don't think even Ten had romantic feelings for any companion, but he obviously missed her and was thrilled to see her again.
Liz was a beautiful and talented woman. It is no wonder that Russell Davies brought her back for her own series, he must have been in love with her just like so many of us
I cannot say exactly when he saw them, but I get the feeling it was when they were very much in the public eye. I am not surprised to hear that they had a relationship, for to me, the chemistry of their relationship was very evident at the time. I am a very big fan of Elizabeth Sladen. It was delightful to see her back again with the Sarah Jane adventures and to find that I was only one of her many fans
@akanippy I too am very happy for Lis's great success with SJA. I first learned of DW via late 70's American PBS broadcasts & became a fan. Recently rediscovered Classic DW via Youtube; am renting/buying DVD's, & am now familiar with DW Season 1 thru Series 5! I now feel the Pertwee/T.Baker years of Seasons 7-14 was DW's finest.
I too, have become a big Lis Sladen fan, now feeling the high ratings starting with her Season 11 arrival, greatly aided the Hinchcliffe/Baker Seasons 12-14!
The new series got me into the Doctor Who franchise. I really wish I could have seen the classic series too, especially with the Fourth Doctor and Sarah Jane. It was this pairing that earned Doctor Who popularity in North America, after all. :)
@akanippy Roughly what month/year did your acquaintance see them?
Lis & Tom have long said they never socialized outside work on DW, and Lis has long maintained the appearance of a solid traditional marriage to Brian Miller from 1968 to present.
However, I must admit I am wondering about those statements/appearances after recently watching available DVD's of DW Seasons 11,12&13. Several stories have subtle-but-clear sexual teases by Lis. I was totally surprised discovering them.
OMG ! Love the shot at the end with them walking together !! I liked the Ten and Rose relationship but Four and Sarah Jane had it first! !! =) (Tom and Elisabeth look absolutely perfect together)
@bananas1and2 ^_^That was from Genesis of the Daleks when he though she was dead. I loved that bit. He saw Harry and shook his hand and then saw Sarah and without warning hugged her. And she's usually the one doing the hugging. =D Took her by suprise.
I think the Doctor, being a Time Lord, is advanced far beyond human sentiments, and so being "In Love" is something he doesn't need, require or feel.
I've watched most of the classic Who serials, as well as many from the New Series. It's easy to see that the Dr trusts Sarah Jane above all other companions because she's just so capable, smart, dependable, and resourceful.
That's why in "School Reunion" the Dr handed the sonic screwdriver to Sarah Jane, not Rose.
Oh no..!!!! I think you are wrong, the Doctor was more sentimental than every human and he was needed love and feel love..real love..anw thank you for answering ;)
@akitty26 I would most definately say Sarah. The relationship with Rose did not have much foundation or staying power. With Sarah, it was founded upon friendship and has stayed around for hundreds of years (for the Doctor, not as many for Sarah). It's not bound to one paticular incarnation. With Three, Four, and Ten it's easy to see how much he cares about her. Love is not physical attraction or crushes, it's friendship set on fire.
@JoelandtheBots Lol. Wow. You're right. I did not make that connection in my mind before you said that. *face palm* Now I won't be able to NOT think about that when I see it!
I think that sarah jane was the love of the Tom baker period and that Rose was his love in the David tennant period..either way its the actors chemistry that makes the partnership work and why we love them so much...Just MHO.
@Aryana70 I dunno, i've watched the sarah jane stories from that era after seeing the new series. And i think her "love story" w/ the Doctor is more like Martha Jones than Rose. I think she loved him but he was so hard to read that she couldn't tell whether he felt quite the same way or not.
A very enjoyable video! All those little moments where you can see the genuine affection between the Dr and Sarah is lovely to watch! Sarah is definitely one of a kind & I believe that no other companion can possibly surpass her & strangely no matter what Dr she's with there's always a beautiful rapport between them - just watch her in Reunion with David & the chemistry is so much stronger than anything with Rose! Also who can forget Sarah's bravery against Daleks, cybermen & sontarans! A+++
totally agree! i actually did not know of sarah-jane until i saw school reunion and even then i was like 'rose has nothing on her' and i am a major rose shipper! sarah-jane is awesome and i adore her
@GoldenAmethyst I STRONGLY agree! David plays the lovesick fool to a T that it's not overwhelming but you can still see the Doctor still has genuine feelings for Sarah. The way I see it with the 10th Doctor's companions... Rose was the schoolgirl crush, Martha was the rebound girl, Donna was the best mate/friend, and Sarah Jane was the one that got away! I mean COME ON! The Wedding of Sarah Jane Smith! When the Doctor rushes in to stop the wedding, you could see it in her eyes! It's LOVE people
Note Dr#10's joyous expression when he sees Sarah Jane for the first time in many years in "School Reunion", and the answer to your question seems obvious.
There is no doubt that Sarah Jane has been, and remains, a very special character to the Dr, the fans and the program.
Elisabeth Sladen has earned my respect for her ability to create such a beloved, timeless, and revered character, as Sarah Jane Smith.
VERY few TV characters have stood the test of time like Sarah Jane.
Great video adayinthelife! I remember when Dr Who first appeared on PBS in the U.S. in the 80's, the special effects weren't impressive, but the stories and acting were superb. The sweet relationship between #4 and SJS is what really pulled me into the show. I quickly lost interest after SJS left. The interviews I've heard with Tom and Liz indicate they are still very fond of each other. The cute, friendly affection on screen is real, and why #4 and SJS will remain the best pairing ever.
Great tribute to the BEST Doctor and one of his greatest companions! :) I love the chemistry between Tom and Liz! You can definitely tell they adored each other and really enjoyed working together too! :) And I use the word "adored" specifically b/c Tom Baker stated in an interview that he absolutely ADORED Elizabeth Sladen and loved working with her! The same for Liz about Tom too! Their real-life friendship really shows in each episode! LOVE IT! Great vid! Thanks for posting it!
