  • Another great lesson. Thanks Leah. #1 Stippling pattern, #2 + Stippling stitch order = effective and repeatable FMQ. Good foundation I love it.

  • thanks leah ~ will look for pinmoors in your quiltshop

  • Great videos!!! Thanks for sharing, I'm a newer quilter and I'm starting to see that quilt designs are endless thanks to some of your work can't wait to make a master piece like yours.

  • hello Leah

Yes when I free motion quilt I do it in rows it is far easier than meandering everywhere. You can see where you have quilted and where you need to quilt far easier.

  • Leah ~ Loving the Quilt Along videos ! Question for you... the pin basting you did... what is the stopper on the end of your pins? Did you make those so you don't get stuck? or did you buy them? Love the idea, as I hate when I am FMQ and i get stuck when working on a pinbasted item thank you Mary

  • @maryfanslau - They're actually Pinmoors, a wonderful new product that caps your pins. It's basically a silicone nugget that self heals much like your cutting mat so you can stick it a million times and they still work great. I've been using them for about a month now and plan to add them to the quilt shop next week!

  • Thank you for your answer! I will be watching for the bigger quilt tips and hints!!

  • I'm sort of a beginner quilter. How do you get your quilt to move sooooo smoothly on the sewing machine bed? Love your videos!!!

  • @ClouserB - Part is practice, and part is the supreme slider I have on the machine. This is a slick sheet that helps the quilt move smoothly and evenly. It's also not a very big practice sandwich and that makes a difference too. I'll definitely try to shoot a larger quilt next week so you can see how to deal with the bulk a bit better.

  • I know you've heard the story how a master violinist can make the crudest of violins sing...well....this video shows a true master quilter....one that can make such fine stitches on any machine.

  • Another great video....I've been waiting all week for Wednesday to get here! I can't believe I never thought of stippling in rows...and it still looks very random and unplanned the way stippling should look. I agree with 101loogie about loop de loops....they are easier and that's what I usually end up doing.

  • Leah, I am really enjoying your videos. You are making me think beyond the box that I have traditionally quilted within. Thank you.

  • Excellent video! I'm the "other personality" who likes logic and has had an awful time with random meandering. I can really see the row stippling working for me. Thanks so much for your efforts.

BTW, did I see chickens walking past your window?! :)

  • super job leah..i agree about stippling.. found it too difficult..i'm a loop de loop girl, trying to graduate..i love that so much it's hard to stay focused enough to try your wonderful suggestions.. i'm getting there, i'm lucky enough to have a grace pinnacle frame with a janome 1600 riding on it.. not much room in the sewing room anymore, but it's worth it...:)

  • thanks for these great videos. i made 8 'doll size' quilts for the kids christmas. i got lots of practice machine quilting. id owned a walking foot and never used it before. i dont own the fancy gloves but i can see how those would help. thanks again. waves~~
