  • Would have absolutely loved to see Art Garfunkel and Teresa Teng do a duet together! It would have blown the jump-suits right and huge collars right out the window!

Miss you Teresa, 42 is way to young to pass......

  • Sweet Teresa, this is best sing !!

  • Siguru nga, at kailan ko lang nakita ang mga kanta niya. At ngayon isa na siya sa mga pinakikinggan ko. Thanks KitAisuru for the information, how she died.

  • my dad's obsessed with teresa teng

  • @dahlidawler1 and who aint ?

  • She was a remarkable woman.

  • Teresa Teng knew how to sing in Cantonese, Mandarin, Japanese, and English, right? Where are the talented people like that these days? My father loved listening to Teresa Teng when I was a child riding in the car with the family. Teresa Teng is always going to take me back to that. Funny what her songs can mean to people.

  • And Taiwanese, Vietnamese, Indonesian

  • @Klee15 you gonna be hard pressed to find another Teresa Teng or her equal . I dont think they make them anymore .

  • 唱得挺好

  • Absolutely beautiful cover of Bridge Over Troubled Waters!

  • Speechless, Teresa sang this at the age of 23 only. What a world's singer, she is a true diva of all time, no one comes close!!!

I thought God must be wrong of taking her away this early, leaving us hopelessness & put those lonely spirits in living memory. Can't see Teresa any more ... ... ..., where are you now, my love!!!

  • Mesmerizing, intoxicating, impeccable, haunting, angelic ... all these words even couldn't well describe Teresa's music. She is the goddess, the world's singer!!!

  • It is an anniversary of Theresa's death today. (Japan standard time)Her alive externals were splendid. It might be Taiwanese's boast ‥. 今日はテレサの命日ですね。(日本時間) 彼女の生き様は立派でした。台湾人の誇りでしょうね・・。

  • S T E L L A R

  • Magnificent! Her mastery of singing in numerous languages is astounding. Amazing rendition!

  • We are singing this song in my choir, and when I first sang it, I thought of my best friend! I have her back no matter what!

  • Teresa is a beautiful woman and singer! It's so sad that she is no longer with us. I read that she passed away after an asthma attack? Is that true? If so, that's terrible! Someone with this kind of voice and lung-capacity... God must have needed an angel in His choir...

  • @KitAisuru Yes true, I be there soon, visit her tomb in Taiwan.

  • It's Simon and Garfunkel's song, but Teresa Teng OWNED it and showed them how's it's done!

  • Miss Teresa's performance of "Bridge Over Troubled Water" should be considered the definitive rendition that all may aspire to.

  • that was just outstanding

  • Miss Teresa Teng had a flawless operatic quality that lifted her voice and held it above the audience. She could rattle windows.

  • Oh, she do is the pioneer to generate english song to eastern listeners... & she's genius in singing!

  • Miss Teresa Teng was the exception. She transcended mortal measure. One must push aside explanations and wonder: Who was this woman?

  • @procommenter I tried to tell um heaven lent us an angel and she just got called back to duty .

  • You can't fall asleep with this concert version. If there is a studio recording version -It will be superb!

  • She's truly one of the greatest artist of all time!!.. I used to read news about her while I was growing up in the Philippines, I even kept a Reader's Digest article on her with her pretty pics!!!! luv her then, no n 4ever!!!

  • yah! ur rght...(valcee)

    cause they only understand 1-ONE

language... & stop from there unlike

us with diferent diversity in music styles...

  • wonderful!! your the greatest keep singing and you will get even better at any song.

  • wow, what a voice.

  • Supreb performance! Teresa will forever live in our heart!

  • Asian Venus, Teresa Teng!

  • America has Elvis Presley, Asia has Teresa Teng!

  • The best version of "Bridge Over Troubled River" so far on youtube!!! The one and only Teresa Teng. She made this a timeless song!!! She lives

    on forever!!!

  • shes a chinese

  • Western music imperialists are such idiots. THey can't appreciate diversity in music styles. They don't understand that the music world doesn't revolve arnd the English language alone. So leave these losers around. I love and appreciate both Western and Eastern music and I'm an Asian

  • Wow! She has a great voice! She is a great singer! Great video!

  • A good surprise and a very serious performance.

    We must admit that.

  • Just love it. I'll have to try this song myself in a while.

  • please do so, I am looking forward to your version.

  • @yuquanchen you know when this gal sings a song there aint no sue in hunting another version of it . YOu have just heard the best version of it your ever going to hear .

  • she has such a sweet, pixie face. :)

  • Simply phenomenal! I heard this song from Simon & Garfunkel and thought it was boring until now.

  • brilliant performance~

  • bridge over trouble water was a good song but is a great song after i hear teresa sing it.

  • Spot on voyeurbug.. i juz din like weiner making racist remarks

  • And why there are more english songs covered by chinese singers is because there are more western influence over asians over asian influence over westerners. who can or can't compose great music, who are we to say, brighten up !

  • yeah i have to say i prefer this cover more. and on the note about western songs and chinese songs. I have to say , there are alot of really great chinese songs (mostly the older songs) but i guess they never been covered by a westerner is because culturally the taste in music is different.

  • I really enjoy the additional "I will easy your mind" towards the very end of the song. It add a unique feminine accent and gentle favour that is not found in other versions. It is very comforting.

  • Me too as well.

  • Simon and Garfunkle wrote "Like a brigde over troubled waters"

  • But this version by Teresa Teng is much preferred by me.

  • Teresa sang with intense passion and emotion. She was truly a gifted and talented singer and entertainer radiating genuinely and femininely.

  • I honestly like this cover than the original one. The original one makes me sleep. She sung it better than the original by simon and garfunkel as she makes me sit up and listen rather than dozing away.

  • on the other hand, asians can't compose great music

  • U don't have to bash asians just because asian don't produce the music that u would like to hear. Who say asians can't compose great music? If u never heard chinese music before or u don't understand, then don't say it. It's more on whether u can understand to be able to appreciate them well. Remember English is not our stuff, it's western people. If asian does so well on english music, i don't think there will be anymore 'singer' like Britney Spears coming out.

  • I've heard plenty, and also notice it's not getting covered in the west for some reason, LOL

  • Oh yeah? Perhaps u hadn't heard enough. And u know why it's not getting covered? Because chinese lyric cannot be easily translated into English. It's just beautiful on it own. Even if the west can produce great music, what's the point? Nowadays they can't produce great singer. They make great music sound cheap.

  • For the 'plenty' that u have heard, im sure u haven't heard of Elva Hsiao. She sang the 'U Make Me Wanna' song with Blue first before Blue sang it as if it's originally for them to sing. If that doesn't count as covered, i don't know what is to u. That some reasons? LOL! Try recalling what that is.

  • U Make Me Wanna, composed by McLaughlin,Robson, K.E. Wikinson, ROTFL

  • It is still a covered song. It is of course written by western people because Blue had to sang with Elva, if u read what i wrote properly. But they had to sing in Chinese, so who wrote that? Them? U are just been biased in your opinions towards asians and a racist. If u support western people so much, why are u even here? Go support the original than the piracy. Just because people don't think the way u do, doesn't mean u are right.

  • >But they had to sing in Chinese, so who wrote that?

The Systran machine translator is running off pretty good these days, maybe that would suffice, tehe.

But you didn't write "properly" per se. You clearly thought it was a song composed by some Chinese folks. So what are you gonna say now, the western composers also had to be trained to write the MUSIC for indigenous Chinese guitars, bass and keyboards???

  • Yeah whatever translator machine u make up to be. NOT THAT I DID NOT WRITE PROPERLY, U DID NOT SEE CLEARLY. I thought i make my statement in CAPITAL LETTER, to make u see it loud and clear. If western composers are so gd at it, they shouldn't have any problem to write anything, be it for chinese guitars, flute, bass, keyboards, violin etc? If u think composing music are so easy, why don't u make up some of your own and see if it sells? I wish u luck.

  • And no. I did not for once think it was composed by asian people. It was clearly written by some westerners. I was just showing u an example of the song that was done covered. It was firstly release as chinese song, not english song. U just couldn't read clearly and properly that i told u it was covered and i didn't wrote it was compose by chinese people. How are u going to fight for ur people when u can't even read properly?

  • You were reaching, now you're lying. You had no clue about that song's pedigree.

There surely must be one better example, right? BTW, you can't even think properly.

  • The songwriting industry sells usage rights all the time, and singers pay for them. Ever heard of ASCAP? Didn't think so.

  • Here's a lead Einstein. You could look up ASCAP on Wikipedia, assuming you aren't in China. LOL

    OK here's the link-> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ASCAP

See if the Great Firewall is got a little crack to let some light in.

  • Nice blabbing with u but i think i had better time spend elsewhere than on u, Mr Know-It-All. I still wanna live longer and the only way to do that would not be replying back to ur 'silly and predictable' comment.

  • The reason why there are no western cover of asian music is not because asians cant compose. It is because Westerners are not as open minded as Asians. Asians are open to different kinds of music and they appreciate western music as much as eastern music but westerners only stick to their own music.

  • Yeah, in other words to simplify it though, MOST OF THEM ARE RACIST. They can't admit to themselves that there are so many great and talented asians that is so much better than them.

  • This is a very good performance. But people always compare and they don't like the accent maybe. However, for me the rendition of Leona Lewis of this song is the best ever performance i've heard. Leona Lewis sang at the British X Factor. I don't have the clips but if you listen to that version then I am sure you'll be amazed.

  • Leona's version is not the full version, only half as long, so you cannot compare. Secondly, this was sung in 1976, without the prompts and earpiece, and producers instructions, staging, etc... that Leona had the benefit of. Leona went on stage and sang one song, like other contestants, three minutes at moment. This video came from a ONE-WOMAN show during which she had to sing and dance.

  • Yes, I went to see Leona Lewis's clip. She has got a big voice. I absolutely don't like her interpretation of this lyric song. She sang just in typical US show off way of screaming & affectation. Not to mention any heart touching & soul comforting. To be honest, I don't think I wl watch again!

  • Say im lying? Im swearing on my life that i did not. God know better than anyone out there including u! Since u are so clever and think u are right, go and do something about that 'composing music'. And continuing stand up for ur people even though i understand u cannot see properly nor read properly. What a hopeless fanatic of composer! I think the composer would love u to death, even though they won't thank u. By the way, even they make money, im sure it wouldn't go into ur pockets.

  • Throwing in the towel so soon, Mr. Cliched Ad Hominem?

Try reading that properly! One instance of a %100 Chinese composed pop tune covered bigtime in the west will not be cited by you (;;) (so it appears). Bless thee with luck for the quest, may it continue.

  • Whatever! Im sure people out here would love to watch the video in peace rather than watching the comments. Who's right, who's wrong, is so important for u but it may not be for others. Including me. Happy blabbling.:)

  • By your logic, if no Western singers ever sang any Chinese songs, then that would mean western singers suck at singing? Just because chinese pop aren't covered in the west doesn't mean they can't compose...

  • take me to your heart by Michael Learns to Rock, cover of Jacky Cheung's Wen Bie

  • They're perfectly capable of composing great music, it's just not pop music they're good at.

Teresa was a fantastic pop singer that had great vocal control. Note that I'm talking about singing, not music composition.

Most pop music nowadays, east or west, is shit and so overproduced that it lacks the organic sound that older recordings have - great for techno, shitty for stuff like folk rock.

  • Chinese make good pop music, Michael Learns To Rock covered a chinese song originally sung by Jacky Cheung, the song's called Take Me To Your Heart. In your face Weiner bitch

  • have you heard of A.R. Rahman???

He the worlds best selling muscian with over 150 million music sales....thats more than the beatles...so shove ur comments up ur arse mate!!!

  • He would be great but I think beatles was more than 1 billion.

  • @weiner66 Asians had been composing music way before Westerns. Music had been bounded to Asians' blood thousands of years ago. To saying Asians cant compose great music is like saying Asians can not speak, only stupid people would come up with such idea.

  • Not so bad :)
