Knowing Steve personally and also going to the same drum instructor(Jack Brand if you are in the Rockford, IL area =P) I can say this video does not even come close to doing justice as to what he is capable of!
@irishboy1012 a ghost note i believe, is a note that isnt meant to fully be heard. i think its just kind of a lighter tap that serves purposes of a softer sound or just as a way to keep time to yourself and keep your hands moving. during the parts where hes kind of just lightly strumming the snare to make noise is where the ghost notes are being played. since it doesnt have the same thunderous sound of a full hit, it gets the name of "ghost note"
so he was sloppy for a second, whether he was still warming up.. or thinking.. or just messed up beats me, but his ghost notes are insane.. and he is a top drummer.
@crizzleisatragedy Lol, I see that a lot xD He's actually my favourite next to Adam Gray :P Btw, I saw them in Windsor in August, and he signed my ticket ;)
@thevaliantaisle oh man its terrible! i go in there about once a week and its bad! but hey the way i look at it is, you still get to play on a drum kit, unlike most imstrument stores in rockford lol
Saw Steve in Augusta not long ago and met him after the show. Probably one of the coolest guys I've ever met in my life, and he drums like a God live. So sick.
@beamanfrancis lol. that's completely opinion. drums aren't about just hitting shit without anything backing it or without a rhythm. drums are about what you can bring to the table with others and how you accent and fill the musical space. i think what aaron does is WAY more ingenious than this guy who sounds like everyone else.
@Hdgunnell66 no you can see him move his left foot, he just barely moves it, probably due to the really smooth double bass pedal. now 2:20 is just awesome, thats one foot
My favorite thing about Steve is how he can play a steady beat on the ride, keep an offbeat rhythm on the toms, play double bass, and snare. It makes him sound like he has three or four arms.
Proto it was a bit sloppy i agree but yes he was probally making it off the top of his which is what i do steve carey is my favorite drummer im not hatin by saying it was sloppy for like a second at the begging
This is pretty good for the type of band he is in. Usually bands that record with Joey Sturgis have bad drummers that can't even play the parts Joey wrote for them in studio. This guys sick.
@theangrymongoose so your saying the drummer from For The Fallen Dreams, the Drummer of The Devil Wears Prada, the drummer of Asking Alexandria, the drummer of Of Mice and Men, the drummer of MyChildren MyBride, and the drummer of Miss May I, are all bad?
@theangrymongoose yeah last i checked it was the drummers who wrote their parts for their bands music. not the producer. moron. look at Daniel Williams from The Devil Wears Prada's parts he wrote for Plagues, clearly this type of music has talented drummers.
@ohalistair I wasn't saying that there wasn't talented drummers in this genre. I just think it's lame that most of the bands in it, record with Joey Sturgis, who does sugar-coat the drum parts they write.
@theangrymongoose I must admit there is a level of consistency within the genre. Not so much with the drumming but they all play Truth or Shine drums and have similar set ups and cymbals.
@ohalistair Yes, pardon my first comment I never meant people to think I was saying these guys weren't talented. But apparently Joey Sturgis lets the drummers who are recording with them pick the drum samples they wanna use. They just always pick the same samples haha.
@ohalistair because the genre they play in require a peticular sound to the drums they use. you dont see jazz bands using a hardcore kit, or an alternative band with a punk kit. each genre uses peticular drum kits to match the sound and tone they play in. :)

have to agree on those who said a little sloppy but he does pick it up some half way. and no he is not anywhere never an amazing drummer. he should stick to him metelcore
okie i wont lie, dont hate, the intro was a bit sloppy. seemed as if he was nervous for some reason. first solo i guess, BUT it got reallly good half way, and strong all the way until the end. so great stuff bro :D
