you take the time to film a video and upload it onto youtube and you cant be bothered to even attempt to pronounce the name of the dinosaur... sadness -_-
That was painful to listen to. I don't want to be offensive, but if you are uploading a video on youtube in which you talk at least a) Spell words. Gosh. I am not even remotely english or american and still can pronounce Dilophosaurus
b) Try NOT to talk with the most boring voice you can achieve.
c) Talk if you really have something to say, and not "that is what that thing is".
If the point of the video was to show the mechanical movement of the Dilophosaurus, you could as well stay quiet.
since we only know about the bone structure of dinosaurs... I like to imagine that the dilophosaurus could fly by spitting at the ground at a rapid rate :D
There would be bones found if it did. The idea of it being venomous we don't know. But if memory serves, Dilo had a weak bite. It's arms may have been functional to use in hunting and attacking prey but the jaws were the real killer in most predetors. Given Dilo's weak bite, it likely needed some means to kill prey.
This is hella cool to see this. The last time I went to this museum was over 7 years ago. I used to live in Grand Junction (now in California) when I was little and I was obsessed with the Dinosaur museum.
Vultures will puke on their aggressors if intimidated.
people have stated there is little evidence that it spits like a Cobra
I theorized that Dilohos would vomit on their target in self-defense if disturbed while digesting. Stomach acid might cause some skin damage and probably reek like hell
Theorize? Where is your evidence? Theories are sets of ideas that are supported by vast amounts of evidence and confirmed through testing and retesting. Again I ask, WHERE IS YOUR EVIDENCE?
They may spit or not. Maybe there other Dinosaurs spits. We don't know because they are just bones. And we will not ever know if they would spit poision or Bacteria filled spit.
We would know. Though it seems we cannot learn alot from fossils we can, there would need to be spaces for glands or small bones to help it spray venom at its prey, not to mention why would just this carnivore evolve the ability anyway?
At the time he was writing the book Deinonychus was in the process of being re-classified as part of the Raptor family. Unfortunately by the time the book was finished the idea had been dropped.
@soulix121202 yea they were misclassified as Velociraptor. You can tell by where they found the body. In Montana. Velociraptor is from Asia. Deinoychus ( I wish they used a better name) is from Montana.
Ok. Scientists beleive, After watching jurassic park, that Dilophosaurus has a very low chance of spitting venom, or fanning out of the neck bone. It's still cool, but probability is that it's as fake as the JP Raptor. Oddly, bothe these dino's are my fave /-:
ok forget the whole spitting thing, or venom glands.
Could it have spit venom? possibly. Do we know: NO
Tell ya what, Go to a natural history museum and take two similar sized skeletons of both a snowflake eel and an electric eel, no flesh attached. Then ask him which one discharges electricity as a defence mechanism. Please folks, TRY to be productive.
There is no evidence of spitting poison nor is there any evidence of fanning out of the neck bone scientists say. However, there are certain reptiles that live today that do spit poison like the spitting cobra and the peacock which fans its tail when threatened.Therefor it may be possible that both could have evolved from a single reptile.
accualy they might spit poison but theres hrdly and evidence to suggest thi! but it might be true! and dilophosaurus s my favorite dinisaur and remember they might have spit poison!-so dont say any bad language its a cool vid and u dont know if they spit poison so it could be true so u ddont say idiot ur one ok gosh.and one more thing they werent gross or anything because person who made this said they are ur wrong.thier swesome they best dinosaur ever! :]
It has not ever been proven that Dilophosaurus could spit in real life. There are no special gland cavities or anything found that show it spits. The people that made it just added that because of what Jurassic Park made the baby one do in the movie.
Thanks for posting this . . . . brought back lots of great memories. I used to work for the now-defunct company that made these. (Dinamation International)
It doesn't surprise me neither that the venom-spitting ability attched in such way to this kind of dinosaur. Since the audience saw the little defense-less fella it would have sense that it could had a natural defense such as natural venom. And the coloering of the membrane could be a warning to the others dinosaurs. Like bug's coloring nowdays for the birds. Plus we must remember that the dinosaurs that we saw at the movies have some thing based on nowdays animals, for exaple the skin patterns.
Obviously is bigger. Only in the movie they made it that little (3 ft. if I'm not mistaken) but the real dilophosaurus were like 20 ft. tall. But Hollywood is Hollywood. I got to admit that the scene at the movie is pretty funny, but there isn't a certain way to proove if they had that fans-like membrans as far as I know. Perhaps if they could find information about their muscolatory system, but that's practically impossible. I mean come on! Is hard enough to find the bones!
You are right, when I named the file, I did not check my notes properly. I'm sure there is a way to rename the title, and will do so soon. Thanks for commenting.

Ya know I always wondered where they got the idea of Dilophosaurus having an ability to spit.

some believe it's based off of cobras
however, I believe that they've based it off of modern day Vultures

If a Dilophosaurus had the ability to spit, I guess it's got venom like a spitting cobra. The real question is where did the fluid come from.

Yeah, it was just an idea for the book/film, and of course, people ran with the idea, just like they ran with the 6-foot Velociraptor idea...
UrukTheRed 3 years ago 2
Actually there were raptors that were 6 feet tall. It was called Deinonychus. There was an even bigger rapter called Utahraptor.
Sabresfanforever 3 years ago
Yeah I know about all that, both those were a whole different genus. Crichton should have just called them Deinonychus in his book.
