  • Blessed...ubber talented

  • I love you

  • Thanks man, awesome!

  • Auto-cue much

  • 'Efficiently' is using less power relativly, idiot.

  • @Haassan1 Its using the 'available' energy to your advantage, which is exactly what he is doing!

  • So it's kinda like a drumroll with triplets on each hand?

  • @souljadawg777 that's exactly what it is.

  • for all who are bashing this dude,

this guy plays freaking good so shut ur big mouth and know your role

  • WTF there NO rebound on that first stroke... fail.

  • @joeyisfunny dude you should die for what you just said. tony is one of the best drummers alive

  • @ITJNI Watch Jim Chapin's video on the moller technique. Watch the rebound he holds after the first stroke.

  • Comment removed

  • @joeyisfunny he might not be a good teacher but he is the definition of hard work and practice.i have alot of respect for chapin but its 10% pad and snare playing and 90% kit playing tony is unreal he is creative fast clear he is what every drummer should be like and if you call tony a failure then so is every other drummer.

  • @ITJNI Dude, relax. I never said Tony was a failure, I said his first moller stroke in the example was a fail.

  • Thank you for making/ posting this vid. I am 33 years old and new to drumming, but have been playing guitar/ bass as a hobby for 20 years on off. Starting to learn the drums has renewed my enthusiasm for playing music. Thanks to this kids lesson I have got the feel for this moeller technique with about an hours practice. My left hand is still lame, but it feels good on the right. It really gives you an appreciation for these guys tallent when you try to learn the basics yourself.

  • put your hand over your mouth

    1.make a wish

    2.close your hand (fist)

3.put your hand (fist) over your heart for 5 seconds

    4.put this on three videos

5.tomorrow will be the best day ever

    it really work

  • @realmadridboy246 it really work...s

  • @ 0:30 he did the most stupid trick ever. It requires no skill at all.

  • @TheColbles2009 i cant do it that fast

  • really good. Didn't really explain how to alternate once you have the technique for each hand. Can anyone help?

  • its funny , ive been watching this video and noticed he switched from triplets to quads on each hand about 3:26-3:28 into the video, if you watch it closely youll see when he slows down close to the end of the video the right hand does four hits and he relizes and switches to left hand back to 3 hits. but he is fast and a great drummer.ive got it down now just working on speed.

  • @lildrum72

I noticed that too, little mistake but he was clever enough to be regular hehe.

  • What is he doing at 0:32? Is it any special technique?

  • wtf? he says put them together and you get a pretty fast single stroke roll... thats so wrong..fail

  • I like him alot. Some really nice guys at the top of drumming. Its like you dont get far unless you have the right attitude. [and talent/dedication]

  • Tony is a very talented man one of my favorite young drummers

  • effortless. and triplets to boot!

  • BEAST TONY

  • anybody know what snare did he used in this vid?

    is that a piccolo?

  • I typed how to do it (no homo) by using Microsoft Windows Word 2007

  • RIP Jim

  • so is the idea here to practice them as triplets on one hand, but then eventually end up as RLRLRLRL or LRLRLRLR just using that same technique?

  • Ye thats right, just combine the triplets on each hand together into singles and you will get RlrLrlRlrLrl... remmeber to pronounce the accents to give it that triplet rythem.

  • He died? Man, I remember seeing a video of that dude playing on Vic Firth's website. Ancient old man playing like it was nothing lol. Rest in peace indeed.

  • LOL. I love how drummers all have to look to the side and all over the place when they play.

  • moeller is the "upstroke" leading with wrist thats mainly the idea of moeller. it isnt just for singles

  • at 3:27 he did 4 strokes with his right hand and then 3 strokes with his left hand ;D

  • he was slowing down...

  • @Nochoys ,after posting mine i read a few of these and saw yours , glad to know im not the only one that noticed this as well. you saw it before me i have to say .and yes " migs " the piont is he was demonstrating 3 hits not 4 . can also be done with 5, 6 and so on ,as Steve Smith from Journey does.

  • Isn't it 4 strokes to moeller? Full, Down, Tap, Up?

  • wow he is pretty intelligent sounding dude... awesome vid too

  • Just me or does he look a lot like Kanye West in that beard? :P

  • foder! the best,, is the end xD "the moller technique" =) hahaha great video :) I go to practise!

  • Hello Tony, Ive been looking at this info

all over the web. Youve done a fine job

    explaining and demonstrating! Thank you

for sharing. Scincerely, your drumming friend T. Baker in Keizer Oregon USA

  • make sure you get that wipping movement right its very important!!

  • You buy smaller shirts,I'll work on my speed.Until then it ain't happening.

  • I think he still wins out in the end.

  • "Jim Chapin... a good friend of mine" *grin* WAT! lol

  • he never talked about rebound...the most important part

  • it's not about the rebound when using this technique... u actually use this technique to play without beeing dependant on rebound ( floor tom ...)

  • @Bosphorus92 exactly you cant play like that without rebounds unless you're george kollias

  • @MrYeswecan14 You can, look at JojoMayer. He's learnt to control his strokes to the point where he doesnt need rebound at all.

  • @MrYeswecan14 just practice on the pillow consistently and you'll realize soon that 200 bpm for you will be a normal speed

  • @Bosphorus92

Not true, try the moller and single stroke rolls on a pillow, there is no rebound, thats why he doesn't mention it, rebound is important, but you can NOT rely on it.

  • I don't get why people use traditional for set drumming. You should really only use it when your playing marching snare.

  • i wouldnt want to be that snare drum

  • Single stroke roll? just did doubles,..^_^

  • jojo mayers dvd shows the moeller technique in way more detail and will make it easieer for those having a hard time learning it

  • He talk about three strokes by moeller... Down tap and up, but he forget the full stroke...

many famous drummer forget to talk about.

for real the moeller strokes are FOUR and not three... FULL, DOWN, TAP and UP.

Whitout Full stroke, the explanation of this tech will be not complete. Infact the full stroke is an accented stroke then start up and finish up (mean extreme whip movement).

For my experience is the most power stroke playable (compared with all other tech)

  • Can I use this technique if I don't hold the stick in my left hand the way he is ?

Sry for me english :S hope you understood my question.

  • yes, you just do what he does on his right hand with your left, his left hand is just using traditional grip.

  • that shit was blazing

  • Tony Royster Jr is a Master Craftsman

  • Great video.

  • It's moeller ;)

  • You would be surprised how many drummers have never even heard of the moller tecnique. They are lulled into the complacency of the double-stroke roll. It is not impossible to accomplish the triple-stroke roll. The relaxation of the hands is also very important because it allows you to have better control of the stick. Tension and stiffness is a drummer's worst enemy. Always start slow. Many young drummers by nature desire to play fast. Raise the sticks at equal heights on the upstroke. Its work.

  • straight to the point... awesome!

  • i'll bet that dw kit behind him cost a fortune

  • and he got it for free :(

    I wish I had endorsements

  • moller aint easy at all...if you plan to practice this technique then be sure u perfectly mastered ur left hand(if ur righthanded) as if we know that it's the weaker hand before attempting to do the moller technique....i do make muscle to my left hand right now and i can see the improvement to it....and now still doin those drum rudiments and tried this moller technique and said to myself that it's not really easy....i do it slow and slow until i get the jive of each strokes. that's it.

  • oh i see, thats pretty coo.

check out my short drum vids =]

  • im starting to learn this , but im thinkin its gonna be rally hard to play it in a song thats in 4/4, considering its a triplet feel

  • you can have 2 taps - so whip, tap, tap, upstroke.

  • or accent tap accent tap

or play 12 triplets in 3 4/4 bars of 8th notes

  • how do you get that kind of crips sound in my snare?

  • I think Tony figured out the Moeller before someone told him what it was...he's just special like that. Most good drummers start doing it first, then someone tells them what it is...then they start working with it...playing osinatos and stuff like that...that's when you get into the 'Joe Morello' stuff. All his solos had that worked it. Smith, Weckel use it alot too. Most people think of it as trips, but it can be plays as 16th notes accenting every 3rd hit. It's not just about speed too.

  • That is very true. I know a kid in my high school that used it on the drum line and he didn't know what it was till I told him what he was doing.

  • i can never get the moller tech...its hard

  • His acting's rather irritating, but his drummming is godly!

  • so its basically

    a technique based on triplets???

im a bassplayer so dont think im stupid

im just learning new drum technqiues

  • Cant do it eh Seth? Never mind, heaps of other people have the benefit of it.

  • uuuuh i never get the upstroke right

  • good explanation of exactly how to achieve it. he rips up. nice

  • born to play drums

  • But it sounds better than bullshit, so shut up, SethDavis!

  • simple, he can't do it.

  • drummerkid27 was saying how he didn't think he was that name. btw u racists all make me sick

  • wow!i can`t believe racism is still around! hey thomlistentoslayer, your hatred will come back to you .

  • dude hes way better than any of u haters so i dont understand y ud try to criticize someone whos way better than u are

  • this is good and i use the moller technique a lot but when he plays fast "singles" at the end he's actually playing parradiddlediddles, i don't know why he says they're singles, but he's still an awsome young drummer nonetheless

  • Guys this guy is a drumming monster since he was 12...does it matters if hes black or white or yellow?fuck off you stupid racists...

  • @awww223 I Said If

    You're Thinkin' Of

    Being My Brother

    It Don't Matter If You're

Black Or White Uh Huh you know what it is. Black or yellow black or yellow

  • wow, this stupid "nig*er" is one of the best young drummers in the world... so stfu.

  • shut up u rasist bastard..

  • your dumb, hes saying how someone said that and he was saying how he was one of the best drummers ever, not a ******** like the other guy said.

  • hey man, i love your drumming, first time i saw your drum solo i was amazed! question is, how long to you practice your doubles, singles and paradiddles?

  • ese wey es diosito

  • Very helpful! THANKS!!

  • Thats freakin sweet dude! but how do you put the three tripilets together

  • sweet
