Dont think newstead will ever go back whilst Hetfield is still breathing, notice how they keep their distance during this number. It was Hetfield's rampant ego that caused him to leave in the first place and if he was any kind of man - he would have apologised and reinstated him in the band before rob was even auditioned.

P.S, I'm not a Rob hater - he is techniically a better bassist than Jason, but I stress again - Hetfield was shown for the small man he is over the whole affair.
