I've been trying for months be able to play like this, finding the notes is the easy part, getting the right rhythm and staccato soul is very difficult!
Not bad....not bad at all I love them Nords! People who want to know how to do that its all, rythem, rythem, rythem! And a good clav with the auto wah or crybaby, vox whatever you like more.
I have played classical piano trough my whole life. I can play Chopin flawlessy and Debussy is no problem for me. I have even learnt to play Scott Joplin and his music has improved my improvasition skills greatly. Yesterday one my friends challenged me to play off with clavinet. He isnt that good pianist, to be honest but damn does he have beat in his blood. I got to say that playing clavinet is damn hard and i really respect your skills. Cheers mate! I´ll be waiting for your tutorial! ^_^
I love, love this sound. who uses it nowadays. I remember it so well from stevie wonder and herbie hancock. who can i listen to now that plays with htis sound true funk
yeah man you got the groove! awesome chops don't let 'em die! i've almost let mine die and it's a horrible feeling! trust me. keep it up; love to hear ya play!
I own a Nord Stage as well and I was always pleased with the clavinet sound until I got a real D6. Now i can't play the Stage's Clavinet anymore. You should really consider buying one soon! It would make a perfect couple along with your Rhodes! ;)
Until then try using a real Wha, I found that it helps a lot soundwise, the internal manual Wha is really not good. (in contrast to the auto-wahs which are awesome!!)
Dude this is awesome, your fingers are flyin! Im not a keyboard player, but from what ive heard this is pretty amazing, i do play guitar though, and i cant make sounds like that
This is brilliant. How are funk riffs like this based?! It seems to be in E flat with some nice chromatic fills in there. Does it go to A flat at some point!?
Is the the StudioLogic VMK-161 organ model with waterfall keys? I have a Nord Stage 88 and am thinking of getting the VMK-161 organ as a controller for when I play B3 stuff.
Being able to play left hand bass on keys is a must, as well as a lot of syncopation. In this video I switch between straight and swung feel, I find it best to be practicing both feels.
Practicing on a weighted keyboard builds mad clav chops too, you can fly once you get to a real Clav.
I'm thinking of doing some instructional video for funk clav, showing how I separate the left /right hands. Stay tuned!
which wah do you use ? btw, your feeling of time is excellent. nice playing

Sorry, comment went wrong, I meant, if you're using a midi controller to control your Nord, what clav did you set up on your Nord then?
gamecubepim 1 year ago
I figured that out, but I guess your midi controller is driving your Nord,
gamecubepim 1 year ago
Is this the a, b, c, or d-type clavinet? And are you using one of the two auto wah's or are you using a control pedal?
Very nice groove!

@gamecubepim its not a clav at all its a midi controler.

Put some reverb on that, it hurts too much otherwise
