  • Very astute observation! I had to fill a half chorus when the piano would have been playing so I just started blowing. Have fun working on this solo - it's just about my most favorite. By the way, I found a good quality recording of the original and dubbed it over the video and posted it on YouTube :-)

  • I think it needs to be mentioned that the part from 2:47 to 3:12 is improvised by doc himself, I'm pretty sure a lot of people didn't notice that. congratz again, i'm working on the solo myself now, the phrasing is just insane.

  • A W E S O M E !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • THANK YOU, DOC - for this incredible work!

    Greetings from Bavaria, Axel

  • Absolutely amazing! Ax.

  • Congrats on being such a monster player doc :)

I have heaps of respect for cannonball and find his playing so warm despite being so technically intense.

    Peace out mate

  • Great job, Doc !

  • sounds great. i transcribed his solo on this same song off of the album "Them Dirty Blues", both solos are absolutely killer

  • Thanks man! I always appreciate a Cannonball fan!

    Doc

  • Outstanding!

  • cannonball is still one of the most underrated sax players in my opinion...

    and so are you!

    great work=)

  • Ah just downloaded the transcription from your web site :)

I guess i'll be working on that for a little while ;)

    cheers Doc!

(PS: Does it hurt to have an ingrown nail removed, i'm scared hehe)

  • You're really great! I have to play this for an audition, and I decided to look it up. I'm glad I did!

  • How did the audition go?

  • Great, actually. Thanks for asking!

  • did you make it in?

  • yeah

  • what kind of mouthpiece are you playinng on the video?

  • It's a New York Meyer #5 small chamber

  • Much respect!

  • The glory goes to Cannon, but thanks for the aknowledgement.

    Doc

  • you sound awesome!

I'm learning this tune right now, and i was trying to find a recording of this. What record did you transcribe this off of?

  • I think this is from one of Jamey Aebersold's volumes. This definately sounds like the play along CD.

You should try them out, many standards in these series.

  • You rock!

  • Yeah man, your killin'

  • Thanks man! It's all about the music. Cannon was the man! Nobody played like him and nobody has since.

    Doc

  • awesome!

  • Thanks for the encouragement man!

    Doc

  • Great Stuff Doc!
