Wa.....okay I'm confused. I'm seeing a lot of posts trying to connect this series to higurashi. Now it's been A while since I watched this, but I don't remember anything that hinted this. Maybe it's just because the limited number of Mangime faces and I mistook them for the same characters, but I always thought the connection was out outright stated, and part of the whole game amongst the witches thing. Did it mistake this and miss this other connection that hinted at?

I can say with confidence that the "No Naku" series are not completely separate. As one reads Umineko, there are more than a few coincidental connections to Higurashi. Flip the chessboard for a moment; Character and personality parallels, the obvious direct shoutouts, overarching themes, References to a Previous Game played by Bern and Lambda. While they'll never come out and say it, there's too much in common for it to be limited to Easter Eggs. Stop looking for handouts and think for a change.

Beatrice in the series is in some sense playing against the Beatrice in Dante's works, and Dante made a point of writing in his Florentine Italian, rather than the 'literate' Latin of his day. When Bern mentions the game she was playing with Lambdadelta, she's referring to Higurashi, which was basically their giant chess board to see who was the better witch. Bern's power is to reset time if something bad happens (as long as the chance of her winning is not zero), and that's exactly what was happening in Higurashi. I think it was connected just for shits and giggles, though, tbh.

What an elegant song. I love this but one thing struck me wierdly. Both higurashi and Umineko have wierd english translations. I mean when the cicadas cry (Higurashi) makes sense, but when the seagulls cry (umineko) makes no sense to me.
