Wow those bananas are manini kind!! Your garden is really nice. I miss planting. Texas has the wierd weather so we can't really plant much, but I want to try. I think we may need to check out your garden when we are there. Beautiful!
It was nice to see what sunshine looks like. We haven't seen much of it at all this month and the next week looks like more rain. =o( I love when you show us your yard.
im allergic to bananas. ate them for 34 years first though so thats great but i know what i am missing. looooove them! oh how i would love to be sitting under that tree talking to beth today. so pretty!
@snarkdetriomphe Allergic to bananas. Interesting! It really is nice to sit half under the tree... I love laying down looking up at the clouds. I can occasionally get Bain to do it with me :)
lol following paul rules - i won't do it, but it's admirable for sure! i hate cilantro. and sometimes i dont comment on your videos but if you toss me i will cry and never be the same.
Some of those bananas looked like french fries. :) The lettuce looks delish, butter?? Um, I dislike cilantro...lol... ;) Is that moss on the tree similar to spanish moss??
@AKSNANGELS The lettuce is a hybrid ( I think that's the word) made here called Manoa lettuce. it is lovely :) We call it Pele's Hair (she is the goddess of fire) but it is indeed spanish moss
Wow, the lettuce looked good.. I have never grown any vegetables except tomatoes and then they didn't make it due to the heat and humidity and the birds, even though I had netting on the plants! :(( I would really love to grow tomatoes, cucumbers and radishes!! My mom used to grow those when I was a kid and we used them in our salad! :)) Good memories.. not many good ones of mom these days.. :((
That sucks about the memories, Judy... I wanted to ask, but knew Connie may see, but what do you think your mom would say about your dad's new "girlfriend"? Does she EVER ask about him? Ever? I just cannot imagine living with someone, having loved them for so many years of my life, and just not care about what is going on with him. I just couldn't :(
@silverscreamgrl I honestly don't think she would care if he had a girlfriend or not! She would be happy about it I think. I must admit that I thought about calling her just to tell her about it and see if it bothered her... but, I am not talking to her since our last conversation.. I hung up on her.. She did ask about him during that conversation though and I think it was the first time.. Connie feels the same as me about our mom!!
@mysteryglo I forgot to address about the surgery date. It is so far away because Kaiser is under staffed of orthopedic surgeons who do replacements. I think there are only two of them and both of their schedules are booked up through September. I asked that if there was a cancellation that they push her into it. I need to sit mother down and have her start preparing for this. There are things that need to be purchased to make life a little more easy during that surgery
Your backyard is almost as familiar as mine. If I ever visit I'm going to lay down on that big green patch and look up at the sky, like you did with Bain.
Can you cut the big part of the papaya tree and just let the little ones at the bottom grow?
I dislike cilantro. I have a yard and a garden---no vegs--just flowers .I'm a block from the ocean and alot of the vegetables would not grow but flowers do really well. My favs are peony, roses, lilacs and heather. I love to go out and cut flowers for the house and proud of the fact that I didn't kill them.
@whitsally Flowers would be lovely .. I have lots of rose bushes back there that I think you saw, and more than a few of mother's orchids. My ground sucks so most everything gets shoved in a container, which seems to work. Did you try the veggies in containers? That probably wouldn't make a different, huh? I want to grow peonies. I have seeds. I should try this year.
Beautiful lettuces!! Cut that basil back! Once it flowers, it turns bitter. Dunno why but it does. Oh, I LOVE the nanners! I'm jealous of your trees in leaf. They are taking forever to leaf out here. By the time they do, it'll be time to snow again.
I missed this and watched them out of order! Oh NO! I am in violation of all epic laws!
Nice idea for the lettuce! I wonder if it keeps the bugs off. I've tried growing lettuce and the bugs just ate it alive. ANOTHER thing I can't wait to do is garden! It is so therapeutic!
I wish we could have a garden here, but the property managers put it rock landscaping and there's nary a patch of dirt to be found. I might try growing a little somethin' in a container or two on my balcony, though. Our climate is so weird, being Oregon coast and all, that we don't start getting good consistent sunlight til late May or early June. :-(
@Neferkit Definitely do containers! As you saw, most ly everything I have is in a container because the soil here is CRAP! If, when I get paid, there is anything left over, I am going to Sam's Club--they have an above ground garden thingy I want to get. I hope they still havethem!
Your lettuce looks beautiful, Beth! I miss having a garden - I live in an apartment now and no access to a yard or outside area. I can't wait to find a house so I can garden and grow goodies!! :)
@BigGirlSmallTown I hope you get your house and yard.. It really is nice and fulfilling to say, "I will go outside and get some green onions and add it to this." There truly is nothing like it. I want more, and hope to have it in a month or two :)
Beautiful day :)
