  • @YCDPKLD

    Cheer up! :)

    Think of happy things

    x

  • Beautifull. shame she smoked.

  • unbelievably beautiful

  • this knock me out.does it everytime.

  • Love like everything else in life is simply not forever. Sense can never have an end or it won't exist.

  • IN MEMORY OF WHITNEY HOUSTON ♥♥♥ We WIll Always Love You ♥♥♥

  • listen to this song over and over <3

  • ciggarettes add character. she was feeling pain, she felt the effects of nicotine, it's probably what kept her alive, ciggies do help through hard times, i know.

  • I love this, so soulful.

  • love actually anyone?

  • i can hear this song 1000 times and looks so great and makes me have good memories , dream and dream how good it is, i m feeling in the clouds now

  • A good company when you feel tired of life and just want to lay back for a while and concede that "Yeah, after life so many years i still don't know life at all...."

  • I've looked at love from both sides now,

From give and take, and still somehow

    It's love's illusions i recall.

I really don't know love at all.

    ...love it!

  • take those ten dislikes away! there not supposed too be there!

  • im crying with such stunned feeling because its just sooo beautiful! im sooo clad this music is in the world! ahhh.

  • Say what you will about the smoke damaged voice but I don't think this song has ever sounded so damn good. Makes you well up.

  • makes me cry every time...

  • this song is the best. It gets me everytime

  • Yeah wow big difference between the Help Me voice and Both Sides Now voice

  • @CritiquesMaster in french it's "de rien" :) thanks for this music btw

  • ♥♥♥

  • from start to now... heart breaking beautiful but the ravages of smoking so sad....

  • Took my heart and breathe far away :')

  • This is what is sounds like after she's actually looked at life from both sides now.

  • I love this song. It's so beautiful and amzing, but everytime I hear it I tear up. .__.

  • @nfonner182 me too

  • I was having a good day today, then I came across this song... OMG :( I think I need therapy now!

  • she's just... perfect.

  • Merveilleux....magnifique version j'adore.........*-)

  • It's very-very great song!

  • I agree with TUBATAG -- Joni has made this song into two masterpieces with this release.

  • Pure musical genius. She revisited this song and made it into not one but two masterpieces.

  • Her present voice has the depth and fullness of someone who has lived, loved, learned from the ages. It suits the lyrics pitch perfect. Sure she can't reach the higher tones of her youth, but it is like face wrinkles; they make people more beautiful in so many ways. It evokes the feeling response in the listener that's any artist dream.

  • This version just simply blows out of the water every other version. It was never a pop, boppy song, it jusy happens to be a peice of art - and the lady has returned it now to where it belongs.

  • Breathtaking. Extraordinary.

  • I actually prefer this version over the original version... It has so much soul!

  • I can't stop thinking about Emma Thompson cyring to this song on love actually when i listen to it even though its a beautiful song

  • @squaredeyes29 I totally agree, one of my favorite movies, that part breaks my heart though

  • @kgates52 breaks my heart also aswell to see her like that!!!

  • @squaredeyes29 One of the best films ever..

  • @squaredeyes29 that is such an emotional scene it rips my heart apart, and then she tucks the bedding in before going back downstairs, beautiful

  • @sonners2239 i know its one of them moments that i just want to reach through the tv and hit him for being so horrible to her, but also on the scene its the way that she seems to try to just forget about it all! i guess thats what you do for your family

  • @squaredeyes29

same me...very sad moment.....I think there is many women with the same situation....they want to give up they personal happines for the children....every time when i watch this movie..I cry with Emma Thompson...Great song, great acting of Emma, great movie....

  • @lambiskon76 i agree such a shame that they have to live like that :(

  • @squaredeyes29 Me too ! I discovered that song in Love Actually, and I immediately loved it !!

  • À pleurer de beauté!

  • This is just so hauntingly beautiful...I've always loved this song, and to me this version is even better than her original recording in 1969.

  • So sad how perfectly this song applied to mitchell herself, she was something of a maneater, looks like she regretted it though.

  • fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I was not even born then, but this is great, why dont we have music like tis anymore, are poeple too stupid and un- feeling???????

  • Its called age, she's just older. I think she sounds better now, oppose to how she sounded in the 60's and 70's. Now she's seasoned, with life!

  • amazing

  • Is the best song of my life

  • I think her "new voice" is great in it's own way. It has a new kind of power to it, very different from her younger voice. I love both of the them. Both of them are her, they just represent her at different periods of her life. I'll always love her I know that much.

  • this song is really so soulful, probably the lyrics or the entirety of the song was really so emotionally performed by Joni, The art and the artist matched perfectly.

  • came across this song last few days.my 20th time playing it. nothing like it .where have you been all my life joni

  • @MsHburnett She HAD her fantastic voice BECAUSE of the cigarettes ... ;)'

  • @MsHburnett Hi :) I sadly have to agree with egillthor1, that in fact, after years of smoking, it leaves marks forever. But in this particular case, i must also admit that some good things came's out from it. That's what make her, her delicate "longsmokingyears" voice :)

  • @CritiquesMaster I couldn't agree more but let's face it. Her voice is magnificent now! It has a texture and a fullness she never achieved when she was young. Joni rocks!

  • @CritiquesMaster I agree with the cigs. But you must admit it gave her a more wise, mature sense to her music now.

  • @CritiquesMaster This is so true. It adds to the melancholy, reminiscence of the song.

  • @MsHburnett WTF are you talking about? I would start smoking three packs of fags right now if someone guranteed me I'm going to have a voice like that!!!

  • @MsHburnett it probably destroyed your brain completely...

  • @MsHburnett Did she ?.....does your voice sound like it was when you were 20 ? ... Does your ass look like it was when you were 20 ( without cellulite ? even though though you don't smoke ? ), I doubt it ! Comment on the song and performance and leave your superfluous judgements elsewhere !!!

  • @thGory1 judements? I think more a statement if fact. As with Marianne Faithful with her heroin ravaged voice - still beautiful, but what a way to get there... and how would they have sounded had they not imbibed? I don't see negative comment here, save yours.

  • @MsHburnett You may be right, but isn't it her soul that makes this song touching and great?

  • saddest song ive ever heard.brilliant though.

  • @MsHburnett she's about 70 years old and still alive... a fantastic musical gift to the world ,, and you bitching about her smoking now..? what about no smoking children dying from cancer.. marathon atletics killed in car accidents.. she outleved them... life is'nt a garranty , you can maybe better your odds.. but living life is dangerous..it kills you in the end.

So enjoy it... smoking or not.

  • @LaBenno

    Guarentee, no garranty.

But yes, I agree with you to some extent.

  • i wake up every morning to this song....mmmm

  • :) beautiful !

  • she gets better with age like the finest wine. it is so beautiful like you said heidi4448

  • Incredible. Breathtaking. Amazing.......

  • je ne suis pas loin de penser que ce disque est à placer sur le podium de tout ce que la musique a produit de meilleur. Avec Rock Bottom de Robert Wyatt, A love Supreme de John Coltrane, et quelques autres.

  • Love this!

  • @belgiumboy45 - don't try to stop crying to good melancholy music. Joni would be moved that it moved you!

  • I listen this song every time I'm sad or something bad happens to me. It's my cry-song.

  • Oh damn that's a low note..

  • Merveilleux... tout simplement merveilleux... Merci...

  • it took me 2 years to stay dry, (crying) with this beautifull song

  • I feel pain listening to this song. It brings all of my sadness to the forefront of my thoughts. Such a beautiful song.

  • I like this song because of death and love and loneliness and confusion and late nights in empty cafes and streetlights on wet pavement and cigarette smoke and life. and joni.

  • An extraordinary bookend to her original. It took Joni to do the best 'reimagining' of her classic.

  • Now this is a song Sinatra could sing the shit out of! Not that Joni doesn't

  • I've always adored this song, the music, the fantastic lyrics, the way Joni sang it back then and this version. The strings are sinfully beautiful and Jonis voice is so mellow with a jazzy touch. Pure enchantment and so mesmerizing, then and now.

  • This song touched my heart n soul and respect to you joni

  • The lyrics stand alone as pure poetry; for me they are the emotional education of a girl to adulthood and full acceptance of herself..... can't listen to it too many times...pure and beautiful.

  • It feels like my soul is singing that.

  • Brilliant... Thankyou

  • Saw her during this tour, other than the two idiots behind me, who thought what they had to say was more important than a living legend 'giving it up' on stage...it was an amazing experience.

To see, and hear her, with full orchestra, and knowing that the guy Conducting was once her Husband, and now Arranger Producer...and that she does her own Art for Album Covers...( the self-portrait here is incredible...)

Satisfying to know they can still work together so beautifully

  • Hauntingly beautiful.

I choke up with this version as I did with the version I loved in the sixties.

    I't life's illusions I recall.

  • "And if you care, dont let them know...don't give yourself away."

  • arguably the best song ever written...

  • Nobody does it quite like Joni.

  • What a great song, it tells so many things, I understand it a little better each time I hear it.

  • I was very lucky to hear her sing many many years ago ,I can close my eyes and hear her still

  • @meggzxemilyxbitch I wish I could of heard her sing.....my mother huge Joni Mitchell fan

  • @meggzxemilyxbitch I NEVER SED THIS...... :/ AWKWARD!!

  • I heard this song in the movie Love Actually and HAD to find it!

I never even heard of Joni Mitchell....AMAZING.

A new Joni fan as of today!

  • like wine mellowed a bit.......sultry though..bit sadder i feel

i think we miss the young and sweeter joni but time stops for no one.............

  • Can't forget Emma Thompson crying at this very song in Love actually.

  • @Tyanes17 lol! Yes! That was how I found out about this song. Touches the heart...

  • @Tyanes17 I know what you mean! thats the saddest part of the film for me!

  • @Tyanes17 Same. Emma Thompson's acting plus this song which has such an emotional depth to it, made me cry they first time I saw that scene

  • i'm learning this on the piano for my grade 3, thought i shoud give it a listen, i barely recognise it! it's good stuff though

  • Just stunning amazing.

  • BRILLIANT! JUST BRILLIANT!

  • Amazing. Just to show you don''t have to scream while singing to transmit emotions, no words to describe this.......

  • I feel so related. What a wonderful song, what a magnificent composer and singer she is.

  • Her voice has gone now, doesn't sound like the same artist :(

  • @slagmilkcard Are you kidding me?? Her voice has certainly changed, but still beautiful. In fact she may be an even better singer now than ever before. Her voice has a richness and texture now that adds even more to her songs. Joni is amazing.

  • @skdnow At least you replied correctly without the normal abuse you get thrown about on youtube. I think the passages of time have ravaged her voice sadly but I respect your comment :)

  • Probably the most cliché sentence ever said, but... I feel like Joni Mitchell wrote this song about me.

  • @Elzibubb I guess we all really felt the same about this masterpiece, and that's what makes her an heartist ♥

  • Oh my Joni you still pluck the strings of my heart.

  • like if you can't see the dislike button :)

  • She is truly inspirational, I lost a child at 8 months and this song always makes me think of her and life after. It doesn't sadden me it just reminds me of life.

  • Simply AMAZING!!! what an artist.....

  • straight pass to the heart of everybody!!!!

  • I'm covered in Goosebumps and I can barely see what I'm typing through my tears... <3

  • Best film scene ever (tears in eye's) ahhhhhh thax for this, its beautiful X

  • Anyone in the world who loves this song , adores it and tears come to their eyes when they hear it ... then he/she is my brother/sister

  • this version makes a whole difference .. amazing

  • A song that will live FOREVER .... jUST WOW !!! .. Joni is a God !! .... I recommend you all to listen to the whole album

  • Catharsis!... purging emotions... memories.

  • what an excellent choice for Emma's brilliant 'breakdown' in Love Actually....I only wish her scene was longer....never get enough of her....and with Joni singing, well, that's perfection.

  • Elsker...totalt forelsket i denne vakre sangen <3

  • tugg's at the heart,,,,in a good way

  • This song pierces through the heart, covering all the times of desillusionement... beautiful, even if it's heartbreaking

  • A voice as full, varied and colorful as the orchestral arrangement behind it. Versions from her younger years can't hold a candle to it. The WHOLE ALBUM is EXCELLENT and has been since its release in 2000

  • This time I wept. :(

  • Or is she saying "love"?

  • "I really don't know life at all"...something that I say to myself almost every day.

  • i'm 20 and was hospitalised for 3 weeks over xmas for depression. I listened to this song every day hoping to find some truth in 'something lost and something's gained in living every day.' thankfully i am better now but this song still means a lot to me.

  • @khalos56 I know what you mean, I really do, I'm suffering from Manic Depression. Hey, if you can beat it, I can.

  • Im 19 nearly 20, and this song fits perfectly with my life. Utterly breath taking, cant stop crying its so beautiful

  • I first heard this song in the movie Life as a House. It fit that moment of the film perfectly.

  • @heidi4448 oh dear Heidi, just as it does for me :)

  • I couldn't think of a more perfect interpretation and instrumentation. Goes straight to the heart, such melancholy...

  • i prefer the acoustic version without the violins, much faster. its incredible

  • Like this if you love this song because of Joni Mitchell

  • Like this if you love this song because of Love Actually!! :)

  • @pingpong925 I've discovered it that way, and I thank the sky everyday for offering me such a revelation :)

  • @pingpong925 me too..!

  • @pingpong925

    Yeah me too :-)

And Emma Thompson fits perfectly in that scene :-)

  • imádom!

  • @koziani nekem is ;)

  • I love this version so much

  • @MsAlleybear Me also ;) Glad you liked it :)

  • Every artist should revisit their early work, the years can change one's perspective. And if they are really really lucky, they might just mine a perfectly cut diamond such as this.

  • @cpronyou Awesome post!!!!

  • This has got to be one of the most beautiful songs in existence. Her voice is so worldly... she really is pouring her heart out. Thanks for uploading <3

  • Clearly the best version of this song... IMO

  • beautiful song

  • Says it all, a fag and a glass of wine. Sad but great updated song.

  • So beautiful...

  • I really don' t know love...

  • stressed out song
