RAM during this time and its still is today especially every new computer and then later on like 2-3 years later, RAM can be expensive, that is if there not making whatever model of computers/macs the older they can be at times harder to find. Or at least not being made as much, that also drives up cost, but if its new, then its also abit higher. and heh 64MB for Mac OS 9 yea 128MB or higher would have been better.

this was before the internet was big.

there was no point in having a HD when downloading music wasn't popular, or uploading photos for myspace and facebook.

also, the RAM is small because most applications did not need to run on anything higher.
