  • WOLOLO!!!

  • Before any other games, back in 1998, this was the best game I ever played. I really saw no faults on it. It was just perfect to me. But now with AOE3, I just can sit and play AOE1. It's just too horrible. =) Those were my golden days with AOE1.

  • Another reviewer who just loves 'streamlining'! Get a professional job my friend, because all the professional reviews just love 'streamlining'!

Civilization III was given 95% reviews, but when Civ IV came out it was commended for not having all those 'fiddly bits' that III had! This is how professional reviewers work, knock the old game to make the new game seem better so gamers keep going out and buying games so sites keep getting free review copies! You'll do well there!

  • @HardWarUK First off, maybe if I was hailing AoE 3 your comment would make any sense at all, every game that I recommended instead of this one is old bargain basement gaming.

Streamlining is always a good thing when it means less needless bitch work and all of the successors to this game took that to heart.

  • @rubbara Amazing review! Thanks for sharing! Can I ask you a question, please????? The music I hear during the gameplay of your video is the same music I hear when I install the game in Windows XP! When I played the game in my old PC ( 98) I used to hear the original AOE1 music which by the way was more awesome ! (you can easily hear the original music in youtube, just press AOE1 soundtrack)! Do you know why this happened?? I am looking forward for your answer!

  • @alerommel1 you confuse the hell out of me.

  • @rubbara Well yes, sorry ! During your gameplay the soundtrack( I mean the background music) I hear is different from the original AOE1 soundtrack ( which you can hear in YouTube easily)! Do you know why this happened? Because I have the same issue too!!!! Sorry again if my previous comment wasn't very clear! I am expecting you answer!

  • @alerommel1 Well I was playing on the Gold Edition which like most AOE games has a different soundtrack which would explain why the regular music isn't playing.

  • @rubbara I see, but I don't have the Gold Edition! I have the game since 1997! Plus, when I played it in Windows 98 it had the original soundtrack! But when I installed it on Windows XP I heard the music which plays in your video! Any ideas about that??? (Sorry for asking a lot, I am just very curious to find out what is going on, thanks for the answer by the way)

  • @alerommel1 Hmm well I have never played this game on anything but XP because I played the AOE 2 first but that very much could be the case as since this game runs so well on XP I ran it on that computer. I didn't think that not running it on my 9x machine would make a difference like that or at all.

  • @rubbara So do you think that playing the game in an older machine is possible to change the soundtrack? Because I read some time ago that the MIDI files are read differently on XP and that might be the reason! However you noticed that the music heard in your gameplay is nowhere to be found on any "AOE soundtrack" video on YouTube, right?

  • @alerommel1 I think whoever re distributed the game didn't get the music rights or they cheaply made the midi to save money. I had the original game with the soundtrack, I bought it about 4 years ago for 9.99 at walmart and it had the midi soundtrack.

  • @bigj70634 Thanks for the answer first of all! If you bought the game only 4 years ago, then I am not sure if it the original game's release. It is probably a re-release of the original game. Anyway, I actually found out the solution to the problem since the time I wrote those comments. It appears that the game, when it was first released at 1997, had both a midi soundtrack found in game files, and a soundtrack written on the CD, not present in any files form. (continue)

  • @bigj70634 When AOE1 was re-released at the Gold Edition (the version the guy who posted the video has) and I suppose your version too, the publishers forgot about the CD soundtrack, and realesed the game with only copying the files and not the audio written on the CD. So, the only present music is the MIDI soundtrack. I found the original soundtracks by playing the CD at Media Player and NOT by searching the files. Try doing that too with your own CD version, and see if M.P. plays the CD music.

  • @bigj70634 Probably your version still has the original awesome CD songs, and not the mediocre MIDI soundtrack.

  • This game is definitely the reason I enjoy learning of ancient cultures, even history isn't my major.

Honestly the only thing I didn't like was having to go back and build a whole new farm, but other than that revisiting this game was imho a great investment of free time xD

  • at 2:04 you set a new villager to work on farm , only one worker can gather food from one farm at a time , but good review

  • @leeg131313 Thats odd as when I am conducting a big military campaign I will come back to my town and find 4 farmers on a field but if only one of them can work at a time that is annoying. :(

  • @rubbara Same happens to me but only one will actually gather :(

  • Can you review age of empires 2 and it's expansion? Please.

  • @yohanZ95 Well currently I am working on a Tie Fighter review but Age of Empires 2 is something I plan on reviewing.
