  • 貴方の素晴らしい歌を聞きながら、チビリチビリとやって増す、今宵もタイムマシンでオリオン迄行ってマイルスデイビス!

  • "The Divine One" had such a magnificent voice -- such range and depth. But this video was not shot in 1990, This is from her performances at the "Satin Doll" in Tokyo in 1985. Her last performances were in NY in 1989. By 1990, she was too ill to perform. She died in April 1990 of lung cancer at age 66. A sad, sad day for the world of music.

  • My unshakable atheism has a hard time accounting for the transcendent Sarah Vaughan. There is little explanation other than she was sent from heaven.

  • ahhahhhhhh! So amazing.

  • Ha! U kno u raw whn u cn dab ur forehead & keep singin w/ such technique and grace!

  • by the way, she's Pope John Paul ll fav. singer... thanks for the link

  • ただ凄いの一言です。彼女のライブを何度か見た私は幸せ者です。

  • That wonderful woman is one of the jazz artists who inspired and influenced Amy Wonehouse, and I just can say ... we understand why Amy was such a phenomenon. Her voice, her moves ... she totally reminds me of Sarah Vaughan.

  • It seems like she got better with time. Love it.

  • Wonderful,as usual. A great voice. mcw

  • Amazing! She was 61years old in this recording. Beautiful control and range. Thank you Sarah, for so much wonderful music x

  • 神に召された年じゃないのか?~サラ・ヴォーン"ミスティー"~最も彼女自体が楽神、歌神そのものだった!~言葉に出ない凄い方 #jazzm

  • She is just simply one of the best soulful jazz singer that I love though am just came to know her from her singing on the Beatles' '' Somehing " ... RIP Ma'am

  • Wikipedia says she died in April 1990 so if 1990 is the year of this performance it was done during the time she was receiving chemotherapy, not more than a few months before she died. Thank you for posting.

  • @50sVintage This show was done in 1985 (vhs of it issued in 1990). Her last concert was in 1989.

  • 03.53 loool , love how Sarah does "on mu own" like a baby cat or so hahaha, seemed to have a damn good sense for humour :)

  • MINA find her when sings MISTY

  • This is just plain spot on perfect. A superb performance, and I appreciate the Erroll Garner inspired treatment by the pianitst. She puts the soulful passion into the song that so many other vocalists miss. Nothing like classic jazz at its best.

  • bravo! transcending on all levels...

  • I love and miss you so much. She is the one of my favourite american jazz singers.

  • wow!

  • One of my favourite songs sung by one of my favourite singers - cant get much better, and what a fantastic ending with her and the piano!

  • One of my favourite songs sung by one of my favourite singers - cant get much better

  • Genius! A gift!

  • I am so damn lucky - The Divine One actually sang this beautiful tune to me at the Blue Note in Chicago ... way back when!

It's in my book Southside Kid which you can google or take a peek at Amazon.

  • I watch this video several times a week. So incredible. Wish that I could have seen her sing in person!

  • Сердце замирает, когда слушаешь эту несравненную джазовую диву. Спасибо.

  • Incredible, amazing, sensual, just perfect. THANK YOU for uploading. This is one of the (many) reasons I love You Tube and people's generousity with taking their time to share something wonderful with the rest of the world.

  • My absolutly favourite jazz voice :)

  • When you're blue, just listen to this

  • This is not 1990. She passed in 1990. I saw her last performance. She looked nothing like this. She looked very different from this. She did, however, sound the same...beautiful as a bird!

  • what a great legacy and a great treasure your mom shared wiht ya and i think its a part of your culture too,be proud of it.enjoy it as much as you can.

  • You're wrong. Sarah took this show in 1985 in Tokio (unfortunately vhs is hard to find and there's no dvd). She died 5 years later.

  • What. Smahing Song by a Wonderful Artist!! Sara's Voice is Unstoppable!! ...

  • Sarah!! We Love You!!... What a Fantastic Piece of Musical Heaven this Song and Video Truely is!!

  • to have those days back with my mother listening to Ms. Vaughn. So thankful I have these memories.. At an early age my mother, (Ms. Jazz herself), shared all the greats with me. Being able to access and enjoy these videos is awesome.

  • Such a treasure is music like this..

  • YES !!! A thousand times yes !!!

  • Gosh! I'm a tenor and she reaches a note almost as low as one of my lowest notes. And she sings with such humour and playfulness! Only Sarah makes me laugh while singing. She's miraculous and joyful!

  • All that is true, nosferatu, but for me its her tone, great expressive phrasing and intuitive timing that I value most. She caresses those emotionally important moments in a passage, and yes - there is humour here as well. Get the Billy Eckstein impersonation from 3:11? It's him alright.

  • Thanks for posting this great singer..

  • She made me want be a Jazzsinger, after I discovered her voice. although I listened to other Jazz Vocalists years before. I love 3:54 "On my own" lol :) Sarah, please send me some signs from up above because I feel you as you were right next to me, whenever I'm listening to you. I love you.

  • Sarah is one of a kind and Sarah is one of the best...

  • @sleeplesscgho RIGHT !!

  • For ever in my heart. Ella, a love you...

  • She is the only person to come close to being as good as Ella.

  • @jiedeng18 she's better than ella..ella is contrived

  • @jiedeng18 she's better than ella. more feeling, more musical. ella is still absolutely amazing though

  • Yes, yes, yes!

  • @jiedeng18 She's better than Ella. Ella is incredibly clever in her scatting, but Sarah is passionate and soulful. Her music effects the listener emotionally. Other than Nancy Wilson, I've never heard anything like it.

  • @BielerLiz .. They are both Greats in their own right....

  • Pure magic was Sarah Vaughan in concert always...sublime performance of Misty always one of the many show-stoppers and this legend is the greatest voice ever...from small to large venues, this lady was a stunner...Bravo Sarah!

  • Misty and in love is one of my favourite songs, Sarah really captured the true essence of the song with her varied tonalties. Theres not many voices like hers now a days thats for sure.

  • you explain it very well: tosing is one thing .. but to bring a song exactly to the center of it ...THIS is art! and this is what you feel when you are listening music. itis true, pure and does not need much tecnical surrounding. if you have "it"... welll.. sarah da it. and a lot of people here does feel it too. so THIS is the essence of a song you hear and feel in your heart.....

  • Divine. I saw Sarah live twice and cried

through much of the performances. One

of the greatest voices of the twentieth

    century

  • I didn't know Sarah's "Misty" is so beautiful like this! It gives us a very wonderful moment when listening to this.

  • Can't believe that Sarah died the same year of this performance because of lung cancer. DAMN! No sign of illness in that voice...just an aged vintage instrument that's been used extensively. BUT STILL maintained the SARAH essence. She's my new musical idol!!!!!!!!

  • this concert was taken in 1985 in tokyo, sarah died five years later. you can find a dvd with this performance "live at satin doll, tokyo 85"

  • Sassy is a complete heavenly pleasure to my ears and my soul! Thanks Sarah up obove in heavens or wherever your soul may be. Mario Aramburu ARGENTINA

  • absolutley,,,,,!!! wonderfull !!!!!!

  • This is music...singing real singing...hit the notes no screaming and can understand every word..Thank you so much

  • Yeah pbuzz,

Sarah was the absolute best the Gods had to offer, a true musical genius.

  • Una voz extraordinaria. Una excelente interpretación.

  • Divine voice. I love this music.

  • Quite remarkable, absolutely fabulous!

  • beautiful!

  • What a voice - and like Ella, incredibly strong all their lives.

  • Hear-hear!

  • It doesn't get better than this! My generation had got it all wrong! THIS is music.

  • What a voice!!!!!!!!

  • Oh God. The best of everything here.

  • Ella, Sarah, Billie, Dinah Washington, Peggy Lee. These are the greatest female singers of the Great American Song Book.

  • NO ONE EVER EVER LIKE HER. A-M-A-Z-I-N-G !!! DIVINE is right. THE DIVINE ONE !!

  • 2 versions nr one is from ella and secondly, but veryclose sara voughan. both are so talented, maybe ella was bit better, but this ismy opition.and i - as a jazzsinger by mysef - would have been more than thankful to be pleased with a voice like sara.. even mine is very close to hers..

  • I heartily concur with your observation(s).

  • thank you... even if most of the listeners are not the same (-2)

  • The Greatest Female Vocalist of the 20th Century, and one of best at The Great American Songbook.

  • ELLA FITZGERALD is the best!!

    Regardless!!!!!!!!!!

  • iPhux wit Ella...lol but I also phux wit Miss Vaughan

  • If Sarah isn't the female Barry White!

    I LOVE her!

  • LOL! I suppose you could say that. They were both fantastic and are missed.

  • I just love how rich her lower register was.

Then... POP back up to the high.

*squeals* I wish I was alive to appreciate her.

  • o.o

    heheh

  • ...e pensare che in questo concerto non era neanche al top....uno stile impareggiabile anche se sottotono, inimitabile!

  • Madonna che meraviglia!!!!!!!!

  • SUBLIME SARAH

  • How can you rate the Divine Ms V ???? Can there be another so superb???

  • Yeah, Sassy was one of a kind. Just beautiful and ... well, divine.

Thanks for posting this rare gem.

    Brewssy

  • all i can say is wow!!!,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

  • 1985

  • I am always amazed by the range of Sarah...she is incredible!! Excellent performance!!!

  • eterna deusa, sarah!!! thanxs from brazil, valeu!!!

  • I think this is not 1990, she died on the 4th April that same year and she was very skinny when she died. Here she looks very healthy.

  • What a beautiful range her voice is..you feel it in your spine!!!!

  • Beautiful voice!! :)

  • she has amazing breathe control! 2:12-2:30 in one breath she goes from nearly the top to bottom of her range! amazing and sitting on a chair like its nothing! go ms. vaughn! her resonance! is amazing!

  • A lot of folks have sung this wonderful song, but SV is truly in a class by herself.

    Great post!!!

    -Emile

  • If this is really from 1990, she had her voice right up until the end.

  • Yes she recorded songs singing from her sick bed.

  • It's 1985 - but she did have her sound to the end, plus, what's more, she continued to grow and grow: I believe she was at her best at the end.

  • I agree. As she got older, her sound got more and more interesting. She didn't burn out like a lot of singers did, she got better and better.

  • Nights in Harlem New York when we all came in from Long Island. Thanks so much for this.

  • She had a serious instrument!

  • I will forever regret not being able to hear these ladies of song sing in person.

    Thank you for posting.

  • All I can say is now I know why my Father enjoyed her voice and music

  • Love this song!

  • A voice for the ages !!!!

  • What a wonderful Treat. Sassy is my favorite singer of all time. Thanks for keeping her artistic great work alive.
