  • @Danny0dbert no duh canada is hockey country.

  • weird....the best ever hockey player is canadian(gretzky) the best current hockey player(crosby) best goalie(brodeure) and the best defencemen(bobby orr) and the best hitter(Scottt stevens) i find this fucking hilarious how canada just rapes in hockey!

  • Stevens hit on Karya was 100% legal it was not late what so eve and Karya had his head down not Stevens problome

  • half these guys take out the knee, and shouldnt be considered great hitters. Kronwall and Phaneuf are way better.

  • love scott stevens, but i still dont like that hit on Lindros. Fuckin elbow to his jaw....i understand his head was down....but it was an elbow....

  • Don't get me wrong, I love some of Stevens hits and he is the best hitters of all time but I gotta say that I really don't like the hit on Kariya. I think it was a late and blindsided hit but then again, this was before the change and it was a little harder back then but with todays measurements I think he would have gotten a long suspension for a hit like that.

  • too bad if it ever happened..stevens never rammed erik cole.. now that i one player i do not like!! erik cole is a useless player!

  • What about Samuelsson? He was mentioned, but not as an actual number or whatever?!

  • At 4:58 the other player tries to get away form Lindros! Not much luck there!

  • WHAT ABOUT CHARA?

  • @MultiDetective007 chara is a bitch

  • The hit on paul kariya would definitely result in a 30 game suspension in todays game

  • did eric lindros win a cup??

  • kick his ass seabass

  • I hate how some players get labeled as "dirty hitters" because they catch dudes coming through the neutral zone with their head down. Anyone who has played hockey knows and will admit that if they get caught in that situation that it was probably their own fault and will be more alert after catching a nasty hit like some of these. But pleeease, dont say, "its unfair because they had their head down". Thats like walking into a fight with your hands down, getting knocked out and saying No fair!!

  • Thumbs up if you met scott stevens

  • Funny to see Cam Neely... About Ulf Samulsson and the knee... look at one of the first hits Cam delivers in this video. Yeah the good boy Cam delivered a knee. But then again he didnt put out any Canadian Saint.

  • stevens is cheap he would cut accross and blind side, elbow and aim for the head

  • @jbroz19 he only got people in the head because they had their heads down thats their fault and a huge majority were shoulder hits

  • Jarkko Ruutu?

  • А как же Бобби Кларк?

  • its sad that the dirtiest hitter of all time is celebrated as number 1

  • I fucking hate my league cuz im literally the biggest guy in my league and whenever I lay out a huge hit like these i end up in the box for 4 minutes for hit to the head. the refs even tell me that they are clean hits and that they just have to penalize me to protect everyone on the ice. even though i get all those penalties i still never lay off on a hit :)

  • JFSMotherland knows nothing. That is all.

  • scott stevens' hits = elbow

  • @Frankiepdp4 he leads with his shoulder, its his momentum that throws up his elbow

  • @nyjeterss its still checking with the elbow regardless. and if your good at hitting then you learn to hit like a normal person and not a fucktard. steven's is only number one because he killed people with his elbow. he was a dirty player. nobody can even deny it. he basically killed lindros' career. other than the fact lindros did keep his head down. stevens still took advantage and used his elbow. just one example of how a fucktard hits.

  • @Frankiepdp4 bet you liked the changes the NFL did to hitting as well

  • @Frankiepdp4 Stevens shoulder was the one that always made the contact first and then in the followthrough because of the blow you see an elbow coming up. It's confirmed by the experts, referees and players themselves, thus there's no point in talking trash like you know (or see) something others don't.

It is unfortunate, that Lindros's career was cut short, but he wasn't a saint has mostly himself to blame.

  • SCOTT STEVENS is a legend

  • Stevens number one head shot leader lol

  • There is no way Steven's isn't number one

  • pause at 9:18 and then you'll see what kind of player the "legendary" scott stevens is

  • @Radmad76 I see a shoulder and bicep hitting a man in the uperbody/head region. Back when the professional sports werent filled with pussies, this was legal. Stevens often get labeled as dirty because when he follows through and looses balance he tries to catch himself and throws his arems... suck it up, pull your balls out of your stomach and deal with it bitch

  • this is why i don't play hockey

  • scott stevens is the most dirty player in history nothing but headshots

  • @jamesdallimore because the guys he hit,had their heads down

  • @evilTaker90 thats bullshit, no one deserves to get a concussion because they "have their heads down" why do people think like that its not hockey if peoples lives are changing because of concussions from some dirtbag come from the blind side to hit the head

  • @jamesdallimore its part of the game keep your head up.

  • @jamesdallimore yes they do

  • @jamesdallimore its hockey, keep your head up pussy

  • haha i love how at the end stevens is trying to say in a nice way, "i lit that motherfucker up. it was sick."

  • @finnagoflow haha I was saying the same...look at his little smile he cant hold it anymore at the end haha

  • With the pussification of the NHL you will never see hitters like this again.

  • Captain Crunch!

  • Lindros is fucking huge, but Stevens just completely destroyed him! I'm not against big hits, but I think the game has gotten too fast for hits like these. They're just too dangerous. The equipment need upgrading, too many head injuries coming. I want clean big hits, but someone getting badly hurt is not good.

  • stevens was great but a loft of his hits were dirty, the hit on lindros was i guess fine at that time but hits like the one on kariya were just unnecessary and dirty, the much smaller kariya already got rid of the puck for over a second, was looking the other way and had really no impact on the play anymore but stevens went out of his way to annihilate the unsuspecting scrawny kariya from the blindside, classless on that play

  • @Flyers20Fan dont admire your passes and that wont happen, wasnt late.

  • It's too bad you'll never see 90% of these hits in the league again without a suspension or fine and controversy following it...

  • @ic0n0clast21 did you see hnic where shannahan reviewed every one of scott stevens hits and said that they would all still be legal in the nhl today. some people have a real tough time understanding the rules.

  • @Marsdevilsvolta Shannahan is so full of shit. He has already suspended many players for far less of hits than Stevens on Lindros - or Kariya.

  • @GrandMasterKolbasa examples please?

  • @Marsdevilsvolta Do some homework.

  • @GrandMasterKolbasa thats what i thought LOL.... you see I have done my homework and already know that there are none. typical you wouldnt produce any example. the hits you have seen penalized look nothing like a scott stevens hit, and if you try to tell me otherwise you just dont understand the rules. 1. stevens hits were north/south hits, whats been outlawed are east/west blindside hits. 2. Stevens principal point of contact was never the head, i.e lindros' fault for having his head down...

  • @Marsdevilsvolta I guess we aren't looking at the same Stevens hits or looking at the same suspensions. Stevens was travelling North when hitting Lindros? Wrong. The principal point of contact was not his head? Wrong. South hits have not been outlawed (cause for suspension)? Wrong. Any comments as to Stevens hit on Kariya? Rome was suspended 4 games last season for his late hit on Horton. My point isn't against Stevens as it is against Bettman's political bum boy.

  • @GrandMasterKolbasa the hit on lindros was north south, eric shouldnt skate around looking like hes trying to suck his own dick. principal point of contact means where they targeted with the hit, it was lindros' fault for having his head down and yes that was a north/south hit are you blind? like i said some people just cant understand the rules, is it because you never played the game? i see stevens type hits almost every night in one game or another. i cant help it if shanny said its ok.

  • @GrandMasterKolbasa and what do you mean we arent looking at the same ones? you havent given ONE example. the hit on horton? not stevens like. savard? not stevens like. sawada? not stevens like. i have seen every hit that was ruled a blindside hit or a headshot where a player got suspended and none of them looked the least bit like a stevens hit. maybe im being too hard on you so do me one favor go look at the paille on sawada hit and tell me what you think. ok?

  • @GrandMasterKolbasa the problem now is that if a player gets the wind knocked out of him and can't get up, 99 times out of 100 the refs will call a penalty due to sheer shock value of a devastating "clean" hit.

  • @Marsdevilsvolta any chance that's on youtube? I can't seem to find it :(

  • @Jawz4devils try harder.....

  • omg "greatest hitter" and they show cheap shots againts kariya and lindroos.. fuck this shit

  • @Mauro1897 I don't recall anyone saying this is a video of the greatest hitters. This is a list of the hardest hitters. Hardest hitters =/= Greatest hitters.

  • why does part 2 have more than twice as many views

  • Scott stevens daughter goes to my school in Nj to bad im an Islander fan.

  • Wheres Anton Volchenkov?

  • Neely - Kick his a** Seabass!!!

  • surprised to not see guys like Dale Hunter (Yes, I know he was fucking dirty) or Chris Simon on this list

  • Scott Stevens has to be the most humble guy off the ice that I've had the pleasure of meeting. He was the greatest, there will never be another one like him!

  • prediction: scott stevens #1

  • The second i saw lindros at 2nd i was like LOL because i knew stevens would be next. Awkward...lol

  • @IANCanadian4ever chara isnt known as a hitter. Hes more of a fighter and known for his shot.

  • @scottwill19 Chara isn't even a fighter, he has size and a ridiculous shot. That is pretty much all he brings.

  • @vtecrkp1 thats what i said....chara is known as a hitter...

  • @scottwill19 Not you said "chara isn't known as a hitter. Hes more of a fighter..." Which neither are true. He is known for being big and his shot. Nothing more.

  • Chara wasn't even a runner up?

  • @IAMCanadian4ever Lmfao. Chara.

  • I have a teammate of mine in juniors who hits like Stevens always shoulder no elbow

  • @jfsmotherland lol good job trying to press everyones button...but bottom line is you don't know what you're talking about and all the top analysts says he's a clean hitter so just relax yourself lol

  • BULLSHIT LINDROS IS 10x HARDER HITTER THAN STEVENS THAT BITCH ELBOWED ERIC TO END HIS CAREER WHAT A FAGGOT BITCH

  • @nikovid learn what a check is and why you lift your arm on impact

  • That Stevens hit on Lindroos has got to be one of the dirtiest i've seen. In todays nhl that would be a minimum of 10 games suspension. Elbow lifted straight to the head.

  • Scott Stevens... one word CHEAP! goin for the head every single time he hit someone!

  • @ECUfan4ever Why don't you go tell him that yourself, see what he has to say about that.

  • Comment removed

  • doesnt bobby clarke remind you of clint eastwood these days

  • All of these haters remind me of the pussies I used to love beating the hell out of.

  • Stevens hit on Paul Kariya. Dirty hit. Cowardly. Kariya came back and kicked ass after. Poor Stevens dirty tactic didnt work

  • @cascist its pauls fault to begin with he had his head down even though scott shouldn't have done that

  • Scott Stevens is just a spooky individual. He even has the crazy eyes going on.

  • in todays nhl, ShanBan would give stevens a few games for that hit on lindros. Nhl is in the same class as mens soccer now.

  • @PrEdAtOr2k BTW ESPN recently stated one of the toughest issues with checks from behind now a days is there are too many players trying to turn their heads away to draw a penalty...so don't go blaming people for hitting from behind...the blame lays 50/50 both ways...1) you should always know where your opponent is and 2) keep your damn head up

  • @PrEdAtOr2k Another thing you need to know is a check is not to hurt somebody but its not just to take the puck away from them...if it was simply to take the puck away from someone the simplest methods are correct body position...stick lifting etc...a check is done for 3 main reasons 1) to wear the opposition down 2) to knock them off the puck and most crucial is to 3) TAKE THEM OUT OF THE PLAY...and no i mean the play not the game...once again if you want a skill base game go watch KHL

  • @PrEdAtOr2k Go read a book on HOW TO THROW A CHECK...he did not hit from behind countless times...if a player sees you then turns their head its their own fault...once again you are a guy whose going against ALL the analysts who've said his hits are clean...Read a book to realize he lifts his body up in the check as part of the momentum to stop him from plowing over the opposition so he does not severely injury both him and the opposition

  • All of these haters won't be happy till the NHL turns into ringette.

  • I expect if this is done in another 10 years Schenn will be on this list

  • Ya Scott Stevens was a hard hitter. But I also think he was one of the dirtiest hitters to play the game. The Kariya hit was way late, and the hit on Lindros was a hit to the head

  • @17griffe are you kidding?! are you even watching the same clip?! Lindros brings his head down. it was a clean hard hit. and the one on Kariya was just unexpected

  • @twistyfish the one on kariya was dirty no one can say it wasnt

  • @MrDCPRESS it was a late hit im not denying that but kariya didnt expect it so wasnt prepared which is why it seems worse than what it was

  • @twistyfish i agree with you on the kariya hit, but he throws the elbow out on the lindros hit. meaning, he moves his elbow to a point of contact. its a dirty hit, but whatever.

  • @handiquacks100, ur mom's vag is way too dirty

  • If Stevens wasnt #1 I would've banned ESPN AND YOUTUBE, I'm not joking

  • And what people don't realize , if you cut across the ice with your head down you deserve to get your bell rung. That's one of the very first things we are all taught. And when I say all, I assume all who comment at least have some knowledge of how REAL hockey should be played.

  • The game of hockey nowadays is for pussy ass pretty boys who can't take a hit. All the hits in this clip were clean in their time. I understand that today they would be considered "dirty" hits. But let's face it, the game has changed. And not for the better.

  • Brendan Shanahan would see to it that Scott Stevens be locked up for good if the Devil were playing today

  • ERIC LINDROS?!?

  • Wendel Clark at 3? FUCK THAT!! How is he greater than Blake?

  • scott stevens- "ya never like to see them get hurt (that's why i hit kariya when the puck was a mile away and lindross got an elbow to the head)", early in stevens career he openly criticized sammuleson for open ice hitting, what is the only thing anyone remembers about scott stevens?

  • @youknowitsvic18 give me a break, the puck was not 'a mile away' and Lindros got a shoulder to the head not an elbow...and Stevens is remembered not only for devastating open ice hits but his 3 Cups and excellent leadership qualities

  • dayuuuum look at the stick go flying at 1:57

  • Bring the red line back and watch concussion numbers go down. Then hockey hits can be just like the good old days.

  • @assholios12 God for real, it's so obvious.

  • @xavierwon once again...concussions have only been on the rise the past few years and once again there were more hits to the head in the past so why weren't there concussions back then?...EQUIPMENT...change the damn equipment

  • I think every hockey fan should start with just that, being a hockey fan first, then your team second. I have been an avid Penguins fans since 1989. It pains me to know that the generation now recognizes when a player is going to be suspended for a hit. Whereas, to get a penalty in OT in the playoffs when I was young, you had to do nothing short of knock someone out with your stick. With concussion research the way it is these days, the old time hockey we love will just be highlights...

  • What people have to realize is that while you certainly need heart to play such a physical game, you also need all of your brain functions to work properly in order to perform at such a high level. Unfortunately, Stevens did contribute to the fact that now, some of the guys we saw staring at the ceiling in the video now suffer from serious brain damage. Just ask Paul Kariya. Looked a hero: got back into the game and scored the game winner that night... except now he can't even tie his own shoes.

  • @Xavierwon Rule #1 growing up playing hockey is to keep your head up, breaking that rule meant you got your bell rung, if you didn't want that to happen, pay attention to your surroundings and don't be an idiot. Although it hasn't gotten too bad yet there are still some extremely nasty hitters in the league, Shanahan is doing his best to make hockey a non-contact sport, synchronized figure skating for pussies.

  • Stevens is the shit. Sure one dirty hit here or there but he was the basis for good strong hits. Even ask Don Cherry. So suck it haters who are crying about getting hurt. Hockey isnt a game for pussies.

  • @tennisprodigy11 lol you're telling people to be quiet? you obviously don't know...20 to 30 years ago players were playing a hell of a lot more violent game opposed to today but why are the amount of injuries so much higher today then before? the answer is simple the EQUIPMENT is like STEEL now a days...Shanahan is not protecting anyone he is simply sweeping the main issue under the rug...Go back to the old equipment where if you wanted to throw a hit of that magnitude you risk hurting yourself

  • Shanahan does what he needs to do to protect the players. You're sitting on the couch while these guys are getting belted in the head. Plus guys are bigger, stronger, and faster. Without the rules regarding the blind side hit targeting the head, players would be suffering from brain fog later in life. Look at chris Pronger! whoever complains about Shanhans rulings have no clue what their talking about. so be quiet!

  • What about Konstantinov? He was a very hard hitter.

  • stevens loved throwing the elbow's....pure grease

  • @CSharpe15, ur delusional, Stevens was a clean hitter and the best at it

  • You stupid Americans, all you Ovechkin fuck!

  • scott stevens hits would always be suspendable now a days

  • @musicb0yf0reve98 yeah cause shannahan is a fag and hates the Devs

  • Doesn't matter Kariya came back and scored.

  • @Swiftllama doesnt matter he came back and scored, Devils still won the CUP! CHECKMATE!

  • u should be a shame to be on this list.... pathetick ppl

  • Comment removed

  • He came back to life at 8:41 :)

  • 7:51 HE CAN SWIM!

  • wish hockey was still like this. now it seems like if you bump into someone your in the box

  • sucks that a few pussies with their headshots ruin alot of big hits we will never see now.

  • Scotty Stevens is by far the best of all time

  • @pieisg00d1 yes he was a good hitter but also did some of the most idiotic hits....

  • @BoBBis0101 i agree half the hits i dont like but the few clean hits he does are classics

  • @pieisg00d1 HELL NO

  • @8:25 I swear, watching this made me sick to my stomach... My favorite team is the NJ Devils (and Colorado Avalanche), but Paul Kariya is my favorite player. My heart sank when this happened, but I got so pumped when he came back and scored that goal.

  • Looking at Scott Stevens now it's hard to imagine that guy striking fear into the entire league for years. He looks like a 9-5 suburban dad not the man who taught 100's of NHL players why you shouldn't cut up the ice with your head down.

  • I think Ryan Wilson is one of the best hitters today.

  • change the damn equipment if you want people to stop getting injured...shit is hard as rock now a days

  • One last thinig people who DO NOT PLAY HOCKEY AND DO NOT KNOW THAT NEED TO KNOW IS...when you DELIVER A CHECK YOU LIFT YOUR ARM TO PUSH THE OPPONENT AWAY FROM YOU TO STOP YOU FROM PLOWING!!!! key word PLOWING OVER! your opponent and INJURING BOTH PLAYERS MORE SEVERELY...learn to play hockey before you always think someones lifting their arm up to deliver a head check....hence why ANALYSTS DO NOT CALL scott stevens a dirty hitter...too many ignorant people out there calling something dirty

  • @xtvpx Scott Stevens was a dirty hitter... He hit from behind countless times, and would hit always make someone pay for having their head down by hitting it. No matter how legal the hit could have been, it was still dirty, especially that he would jump on 50% of them. Besides, hitting isn't to hurt somebody, it's to take the puck away from them, not take them out of the game

  • @xtvpx Good point, its pointless to make a big hit if ur gonna take urself out of the play too, thats y i hate Phaneuf and Kronwalls hits they just throw their body and end up on the ice as well most of the time, theyre just trying to hurt people. Stevens would hit and stay on his feet so he could get right back in the play

  • @shawmac173 I agree...most players wouldn't be able to handle playing in the nhl like back in those days...too many damn players trying to play like they can dangle a whole team they need ot learn to KNOW whose on the ice and WHEN they're on the ice not to try a damn dangle...these guys need the fear of a scott stevens hit to make them learn

  • @strunz618...lol you might as well take hitting out of the nhl and go play in the KHL where the game isn't really physical and more skill based but they're playing in the NHL known for every aspect of the game...HEART + SKILL not just one or the other...you're probably just a guy whose started watching hockey since the lockout days...just because a players not looking doesn't mean you let him have a free pass into your zone to score on your team

  • Comment removed

  • Forsberg should have been on that list. He practically invented offensive checks. And by offensive checks I mean checking while carrying the puck.

  • Fuck Cam, look at his hits. I can't believe he questions the way Ulf plays. Ulf was one of the best defensemen of his time when it came to a solid, rugged, and reliable defensive player. He was a shut down D.

  • Scott Stevens and damn near every player on here was dirty as shit. That hit on Kariya was down right horrible. Lets hit a guy that isnt looking and doesnt have the puck. best hitter of all time my ass. 70's 80's and even 90's was a different game of hockey, I understand, but thats just fucking redic. The game of hockey is so much better now. im glad to know nobody like this will ever play in the NHL ever again.

  • @strunz618 Kariya wasnt looking cause he just got rid of the puck u moron! RULE 1 IN HOCKEY:KEEP YOUR HEAD UP, RULE 2: DO NOT WATCH YOUR PASS!...both rules should be followed and even more so when Stevens was on the ice! Stevens did exactly what he was suppose to do. Kariya made two mistakes there and paid for it...

  • @jdsmak exactly the same as the hit on Lindros...his head was down

  • Wow Scott Stevins could hit............ he would be kicked out of the league nowadays though

  • People can say what they want. Stevens was the best hitter of all time period.. And yes Crosby wouldn't last one game playing like this.

  • Crosby would have died. He would just be fuckin dead. DEAD!

  • Scott Stevens.. seems to be squirming when questioned about the Lindros hit. Frequently checking with the forearm and even connecting to the head, still only four elbowing penalties during his career. Would probably not get by in today's league.. which is nothing but a good thing.

  • @ntnnot he would also follow the rules of today, he would sure knock you out.

  • @ntnnot I think if Stevens were playing today, he would adapt and still dominate

  • @jdsmak he wouldnt have to adapt he always was a clean hitter...

  • @twistyfish, yeah ur right, his hits were clean but he would certainly adapt to the changes in hockey in general, the no clutching/grabbing/hooking part of it and still change the momentum of a game w/ one big hit

  • Comment removed

  • 3:15 - Epic moustache alert

  • 96% of these hits would be cases for suspension now under Shanahan. Give it a thumbs up if you wish hockey was still played this way.

  • @bonora89 These kind of hits shorten careers. I'll rather watch these awesome players do what they do best for a few extra years if that excludes seeing hits like these.
