I grew up in a British family in Massachusetts. Some of them still had English accents, some of them Scottish, some of them Irish, and some of them had adopted the local Western Massachusetts accent. I was born into the generation following them, and as a child my speech tended to fluxuate between their mannerisms and the ones I picked up at school.
At around 13, I began making periodic trips to England, as well as studying Japanese, French, and dead languages like Old Gaelic and Latin because I was beginning to study basic anthropology in college and became fascinated with those tongues. I did not get very far with French.
At around 16, I stopped visiting England and began visiting Japan, mostly the Tohoku prefecture. At 18 I spent a month helping to teach English as a guest teacher at a school in Sendai, but many of the students were originally from the Tokyo area.
The result, it seems from many comments, is that I have difficulty sounding completely genuine in any language. I still write best in English, but when speaking it I have to consciously keep myself from throwing in alveolar trills or alveolar lateral flaps. It's a mess.
I would think, that people think that way because they are not around it daily so they think it is way different and weird that someone could talk that way normally.
I speak in the most honest manner I can, and I know that I don't speak as consisely as a reporter. But often, more words than one come to mind, without an all-encompassing synonym linking them all perfectly. Efficiency is the goal. Rather than taking thirty seconds to describe an object or a quality with common words, I find it better to use one specifically tailored word and be done with it. Sometimes this requires less common words, but I would like to think that is not an enormous problem.

I do have 1 comment about your video though. You said people should be able to do whatever they want to their own bodies as long as they don't hurt others. Well, drug overdose does hurt other people just the same as not wearing a seatbelt hurts others. In short, medical bills from these have to be absorbed by all when insurance rates increase. It's not a direct harm, but indirectly to my wallet

I agree. if we would, say, treat the use of drugs the same way as we treat smoking, it would become far more normal and therefor dull and thus the number of use would decrease in great numbers, for many adolescents and sometimes grownups use drugs once or more times because it is a forbidden fruit, it's exciting to do something that isn't allowed let alone illegal. my family and I have other theories that are interesting aswell but most of them require far to much explaining

On the issue of laws and morals, I'm in the middle on this issue because I think there should be a nice balance on the scale. Law is a very very broad term for morals. I say that alcoholism is bad and I am currently chugging the stuff. Those around me see my sad state and I know it brings them down. I know it is wrong but it is hard to stop and I will most likely regret it tomorrow.
There is a lot of wisdom in the dont do drugs, alcohol, or fuck around set of morals. The more time goes by the more I am convinced that its not good for ANYONE.

I agree completely. But the blatant double-standards in the laws are painfully ridiculous and I'd rather they either:
a. Ban substances according to their danger.
b. Ban it all.
c. Allow it all and let natural selection do the work.
I would rather A or B, but we're just not moving in any of these directions. We only have an extremely flawed policy.

Well yes saerian the policies in place are little flawed. Its imperfection is just another of many examples in our society. But the groundwork is there, to be made better, and improved. It was created by people who had a vision and who cared enough to make an attempt at making our world a more usefull place. I believe that.
Its up to people with guts to do something about it....and its up to people who dont to shut up.

Efficiency is the goal. Rather than taking thirty seconds to describe an object or a quality with common words, I find it better to use one specifically tailored word and be done with it. Sometimes this requires less common words, but I would like to think that is not an enormous problem.
