  • We need to limit the power output of HAM radio operator, current 1500 watts is too high and dangerous for residential neighborhood , in UK it is limited to 400 watts.

  • With all the killings and wars in this country it is sad when people sit around and worry about how an antenna that may help them in a time of emergency looks to them.

  • I hate those uptight suburbs with those narrow-minded "keeping up with the Joneses" clowns - Would those dumb snotty broads with their backstabbing behavior actually realize that it was science and engineering that made the USA as prosperous and powerful as it is today? What that battle-ax spokeswitch and her co-conspirators really should protest is that so many of our kids nowadays turn away from technical hobbies and associated engineering educations! Ignorant fools.

  • i hate people who hate the hams and the cb-er's

these devices can save lives and a licence should not be required fuck the federal laws that state otherwise

  • And you thought you had problems!

  • unsightly my arse.its a beautiful piece.

  • Bottom line folks.....

PRB 1 applies only to state, county and local governments.

PRB 1 does NOT apply to contracts aka HOA agrreements

The HOA CAN sue the home owner in a court of law for contractual agreement if the homeowner did not get the HOA Apporval PER HIS PURCHASE contract and FORCE removal of the antenna.

I have also seen blurbs where individual home owners can also sue as individuals for breach of contract as well.

Bottom line just OBEY your contract.

  • Ok. The Golden Girls have spoken. Great. Now B. Arthur and company can pound sand. So they don't like antennas eh? Ladies take your cell and cordless phones, T.Vs, FM/AM stereo, home and auto security systems and shove them up your asses. While you're at it go find an old school olive green Genie garage door opener and cram one of those up your ass too. Fuck those aging baby boomers. That Ham antenna is simply kick ass. I miss the generation before them. They drove way cooler cars. 73'S OUT!!!

  • It's pretty, though he could have used a wire antenna or something much lovely.

  • It's messed up how that one lady says "if you want something like that you should go out the country." Doesn't she realize that we live in a free country and there are more important factors at play than her viewing pleasure? Uneducated people are the first to criticize the man with a big antenna, but when the electricity & phone goes out they change their tone because the ham operator is usually there to help in a time of need.

  • @Fantome1989 She was referring to out of the city..as in out in the country side.. Not sure if that is how you took it or not, sounded like you thought she meant to another country like a communist country.

  • why are they out of the kitchen? go back inside and knit and sew

  • Long live amateur radio hear in the uk if the antenna extends over a nabours land it is then classed as trespassing on the nabour

  • Comment removed

  • you got to love it.

  • "I don't like it" ...

    You beautiful ladies,

you roses and tulips of the neighbourhood,

    that's not an argument.

  • fuck them mean old bitches.. them bitches are an eyesore.

  • @tonytonytee

PRB1 per the FCC policy in effect applies only to governments and government agencies. Further said government or agencies can impose reasonable safety and construction requirements that can make any tower NOT worth the effort.. Said restrictions to include a limitation on the height of the tower as well.

FURTHER the contract to buy the land and or house in any HOA allows any owner to sue independant of any HOA Actions.

    They should sue independantly .

    N5LRZ

  • fuck them mean old bitches..

  • maybe the old hags should move?

  • I have learned more expensive neighbourhood , they are picker about how it looks, move into more of redneck neighbourhood, they will come visit you asking how to increase their CB radio range, and where you got that antenna. I guess there is no neighbour who do CB in this video. I have a lot of CB neighbours , they worship ham as big brother.

  • Eyesore? What do you call a gaggle of bitter denatured old Hens? Beauty?!

    KC0BIN

  • problem is not large antenna make HAM looks bad, but interference cause to neighbours. I don't think other wise neighbour care what you have in your house.

  • Those old women should thank their lucky stars that they have someone with such an emergency communications capability in their neighborhood.

  • Re Eagle guy....better check with the lawyer before you speak.....

ANY PERSON IN THE HOA can bring legal action against you for what they perceive as an illegal install of an antenna. They do not have to be your neighbors.

YOU SIGNED the agreement, now OBEY IT, sorry no tap backs in contractual law unless specificly stated in the contract.

Dont believe me, ask your lawyer.

    N5LRZ

  • she sawer tha antennuah and she dont like it.

  • WE are hams and WE need ANTENNAS!!!

  • Wow, the old bitties have nothing better to do then complain. I say good for the ham. He has enough antenna to get the job done, has a retractable mast and is doing what he can to be a good neighbor. Tip of the Stetson to him.

  • I'm a Ham radio operator, in emergency services, and when ALL hits the fan and YOU need help..guess what, WE do the communications. People wake up. TRAINED FCC Licensed with technical, electrical, and FEMA certificates, you may be close to death or dead by the time some one gets to you, maybe days out. We train ALWAYS for disasters, and when all else fails..HAMS SAVE LIVES. Be thankful for this Ham operator, shake his hand, for one day he may be your ONLY communication to the out side world!!

  • Guess you better take down all those Cell phone towers. Oops then your phone won't work. Too bad too sad. Oh god you always hear about the ham helping in an emergency. Grow up and stand on your two feet and just say it's a hobby and it's your hobby.

  • @hamradio001

You're a complete moron! where's your data to back up your "brain cancer" claim?

  • looks ok to me

  • @hamradio001, are you saying that you think that ham transmits on microwave with that antenna? IF that antenna is even used for transmitting, 80, 40 & 20 meters is as far from "microwave" as you can get; they are considered to be LOW frequencies! And unless he is transmitting FAR above the legal limits, whether voice or CW has no difference and minimal health concerns for his neighbors. I feel you know far too little to be making recommendations to the industry on these matters. Ask an ELMER!

  • If this is the worst thing in the lives of these old ladies and the best thing they have to occupy themselves with, they need to consider themselves infinitely fortunate, and go do something genuinely useful, helpful and constructive with their lives instead of nit-picking their neighbors. Perhaps they should go volunteer with Hospice, or at the Salvation Army...I'd be ashamed to let the public see my face and have everyone to know that I am that kind of a person. Is this the best you can do?

  • This is the saddest day. This is such a stupid thing that our country has come to. I am so glad they have to let the guy keep it. These people are total idiots. If it was up to people like this, this country would be a communism. They have way too much time on their hands to start complaining about an antenna...I don't care how big it is.

  • i had a 75feet antenna in a small city village and no one complained...

  • "Beauty in things exists merely in the mind which contemplates them."

To me, this Steppir is a beautiful thing! ;)

    73,

    kg4lxc

  • lol old fkin hags are the ones were all laughing at after that i wouldent be happ till i turned off their tv when i heyed up the mike

  • who cares if they like it? as long as it's legal they shouldn't have even wasted the time filimg this...

  • The old "uppity" broad said..." if he wants something like that he should go out in the country". I think if she don't like it SHE should go to the country. It works both ways.

Good for this guy though. OUR rights are being taken every day, it's about time the good guy wins one!

  • Ugly? I wouldn't be worried about the antenna. That neighborhood is butt ugly without any kind of trees in sight!

  • I wonder if there is an HOA in that neighborhood?

  • Dude needs to hang some Nutz from each corner!!

  • I would stack quads all over that tower.

  • Go Hams, screw those old bidies

  • What a load of CRAP! This guy has EVERY right to have that. Tell the old ladies that if there ever is a civil emergency or outage, when we are operating our ARES/RACES OR SKYWARN nets, they won't be worried about. PS, nice beam

  • even with much lower radiation power Cell Phone 0.6 watts is known to cause cancer specially in children. 1500 watts from HAM RADIO ?

look at you tube video [ Cell Phone Dangers - Not Good for Children ]

  • @ORANGE196801 Then I think you should throw you cell phone away

  • @ORANGE196801

sorry to thunder you,be radio hams use a lower part of the radio spectrum that does not have any links with causing cancer even at such high powers, there is still no evidence that cell phones have caused cancer, there are just warnings of it being possible due to microwaves being used, the same microwaves thats used to cook you,r food, but you still eat it i bet,and thats cooke at 650 to 1300 watts or more, only future years will tell if cell phones caused cancers in kids.

  • Great story!!!! Go HAMS!!! People need to get a life and stop wanting to change everybody else!!! CHILL

  • At the frequencies hams operate at it poses no threat to personal safety at 1500 watts, your microwave oven operates at 2.4GHz, the same frequency as your laptop's wifi, hams operate between 1.8-30MHz for HF radio, 50MHz-222MHz for VHF, and 444-470MHz for UHF.

All hams must do RF exposure evaluations if they are producing above certain amounts of power at different frequencies.

    1.8MHz - 7.3MHz above 500 Watts

    -snip-

    28Mhz - 225MHz above 50 Watts

It all depends on the frequency

  • It is a thing of beauty...could probably get a bigger vertical on top too....lol

I LOVE IT ....what a load of moaning old bints...lol

  • I'd build and raise a GIANT REFLECTOR just to fuck up his signal.

    Also perfectly legal!

  • @JohnM3D Actually since he is a licensed operator under FCC laws interference that is caused by

any source that does not belong to him can be required to be fixed, and attempting to jam radio

signals is illegal, the FCC gives fines ~$15-20,000 to people who interfere with radio.

  • I applaud the man for standing his ground. He's a licensed ham and has the right to put up the beam antenna.

    Deal with it granny!

  • cell phone 0.6 watts , in Europe are known to cause negatively physiological effect.

Hams 1500 watts are 2500 times more power of electronics magnetic wave.

many hams put out more than 1500 watts, many of so called legal limits amplifier are capable of 2500 watts. even most powerful microwave oven are 1200 watts. it is like two of most powerful microwave oven operating with door open. go to William Thomas web site, he talks about cell phone hazard

  • Comment removed

  • @ORANGE196801 then dont move near him, troll.

  • @ORANGE196801 Yeah, because all hams operate at 1500 watts. If you studied for the lowest class of ham license you'd be required to know that hams must use the lowest amount of transmit power needed to maintain communications. Also, most ham rigs aren't capable of 1500 watts on their own; you need some pretty beefy amplifiers to reach that kind of power, and I can guarantee you no one is running 1500 watts through what you see in that video. It would burn up!

  • wtf is an i soar i thought she was saying asshole

  • look at you tube video title "Truth revealed about ham radio"

  • The old people need to get a life! Maybe a ham license.

  • nice gear....i wonder what the old bugger is runnin in the shack!!!

  • gee wiss hay i wish thes rich stuck up ladys wood shut up and get on the radio to see what it is all a bout

  • Also, as far as property values. That only matters if you are Selling the property, the buyers would want it lower. The permanent residents would want it lower because the property taxes would be lower. And, antennas are Temporary in that they can be taken down reasonably easily, unlike a building.

  • It's simple, if it's not on Your property, it's none of your business. This applies to all things.

    -W4MRH-

  • It's about time the Ham Wins!!!

  • @TheKC1ML

Above has several errors. Home owners, neghbors can sue the antenna owner in a court of law and have a judge mandate that the antenna be removed.

IMHO they should sue the antenna owner and force him to remove it.

A contract is a contract, PERIOD.

    N5LRZ

  • @N5LRZ Not any longer. Ask and you SHALL receive. No Ham operator can be told any longer they can't put up an antenna. I live in an association, and, just like the Ham hobby, IT'S COMMUNICATION. My neighbors LOVE the fact they can come to me knowing they can reach any one any where, being with the NTS. It's a matter of duty. A hobby, yes. But it's come a long way baby!!

  • @03BluEagle

Better contact the ARRL Legal Help people. They will till you that PRB1 does not cover HOA Agreements and that any person in the HOA can file a legal action against any other HOA person for violation of the HOA Terms of Contract. It does not matter what you or your neighbors like or not like. All it takes is one single HOA member filling a legal action and dragging you into court. The JUDGE can tell you rip that antenna out of the ground as a violation of contract.....

  • Wow!!! I have to say that some people can be extremely immature, petty, and just plain stupid. I am currently working on getting my HAM Radio license in Canada. I hate to say this, but you don't like it, find somewhere else to live. If you are as old as the ladies are, you should know that maturity USUALLY comes with age. I currently question their maturity level.

    Keep HAMing! 73

  • Metro News 1?

  • by the way, them old hags are eyesores

  • whiny snooty neighborhood bitches.. get a life..

  • HOA ladies are Nazi's.

  • Ham need to use common sense when putting up antennas. Putting up an antenna that is as big as a house in a community with a lot of houses nearby is counter productive. Just because you can put an antenna up does not mean you should. This ham might make it worst for future hams in that community and with those people. I believe it is better to foster good relations with neighbors than to shove this down their throats and create ill will. 73 from N2LRB

  • People can't mind their own damned business. This is why I won't live in one of those snooty "restricted" neighborhoods. Of course, to us radio amateurs, that tower and antenna is but a thing of beauty!!! (See the excellent X-Files episode, "Arcadia" for a great statement on these neighborhoods and the controlling / controlled people who inhabit them!)

  • Great Video about old ladies bitching

    73'

    KB1UYH

  • is just an antenna bitch, get the fuck over yourself. I think it looks beautiful.

  • wah fucking wah.

  • They should be glad it's not even bigger.....

However, I guess it could be argued that massive Yagi's and housing estates don't mix well. I personally would have considered moving into a normal suburban house on a block if I wanted a 50' tower and beam. Or how about compromising with a high quality vertical with smaller visual impact?

Of course, what he should do now is upgrade to a 33-element military-style log-periodic on a 100' tower. Keep the 50-footer for a 8-beam EME array!

    73

  • We need everyone that knows what this is about to video their own parodies of this video. Standing next to a car with a bunch of antennas . Standing out in the backyard

Parody your local HOA stupidity . fav vid

  • Nice antenna, and federal laws!

    KB3FVE

  • epic, as a side note if i want to piss off the neighbors this is one easy way to do so.

  • ehhehehe crazy old ladies.

  • I wish I had the time to worry about property values of my million dollar house that I'm going to live in for the last 10 years of my life and never sell.

  • "Those damn radio operators" "Their goes the neighborhood"!!!! >:)

  • I bet those ladies would change their minds if, he is the only one able to contact their loved ones far away if their home phone fails !!!!

Amateur radio saves lives. Let the antennas be.

  • radio ham: 1

    plasic faces: 0

  • give them something that vibrates .......they will be happy :P

that´s ppl that as nothing to do

    73

  • WOW IF ONLY PEOPLE KNEW WHAT HAMS WHERE ABOUT AND THE HELP THEY CAN BRING

  • @505THEDOGG

i think of it the other way around. i know who will not survive and thus whom might be good fodder for the coming zombie hordes. then we have all those supplies that the zombies don't find tasty.

  • please tell me this was just a joke?

  • @zeratul575

Unfortunately, not it wasn't a joke. It's happening more and more every day nationwide, and the Ham loses more often than not.

  • hahahaha, Betty, what is that thing in your neighbors back yard???? Its a UFO landing site. hahahaha

  • hahahahahaha

  • Sure he should have his antenna up, he might be the only link to the outside world one day. Not only can he help in emergency situations but hams all over the world is a great contributing factor do modern development of IT, telecommunications, communication processes etc etc.

  • These "Ham Radio" guys are very strange, we are attempting to kick them out of our HOA. They keep claiming they are "Emergency Operators" or some damn thing, We have checked with all authorities in the area, they have all said they only use ham radio operator for minimal duties and never use them (and never will use them) for emergency communications. These guys are all old men with the typical old men issue. The old guys seem to think it's still 1950, hopefully we'll get their ugly aerials down

  • @ZXROMEO ahem you said "aerials" that ham lingo....hahahahhaha

  • @ZXROMEO you silly ignorant.

  • @ZXROMEO So you gonna talk shit, little man? AWW U MAD BRO? U MAD?

  • They want emergncy servies as long as they don't suffer any. Cut off their weather reports for a year and they'll change their minds. Especially like in our area of tornados. KF5BBH

  • That antenna is beautiful. It made me cry when I saw old ladies make fun of it. 73, KD0MLQ

  • These people need to get a life. Hate to break it to ya but the world does NOT revolve around you. To the person who has the antenna good job! I would put up more just to piss them off. I am a new ham ( 7 months old ) and enjoy it very much. I have 146 mhz 440 mhz 6M & 10M Radios . I am studying for my general as I would like to do some HF

    73 to you

  • I can understand their frustrations. Those lots seem kind of small; granted, it is very visible. But, I agree that he should be able to have it. I don't like antenna restrictions of any kind. Man, that's a nice set of beams. They should really be appreciative of the fact that he lowers it when not in use.

FYI, zoning guy, he's licensed, not registered.

Maybe, he should invite all of them over for a group visit and show them how it works, and maybe let them make a contact.

  • old crows got nothin better to do, antenna needs to be higher so it can really be appreciated :)

  • the ladies are bitches

  • bunch of old complaining bats!!!! i think it looks good. if it was raised up higher

  • Just a bunch of raggedy old women with nothing more to do except gossip about neighbors and listen to their arteries harden. Wait until their grandchildren need his help

  • @Briankey1960 WELL PUT! LMFAO!

  • That is terrible... I hope he gets keep his tower up, just as KB1PTH says in a complete power outage forget your cellphones or emails... he will be the only one with comms out of that area.

I imagine a knock on the door from those ladies saying " can you send a message to my son to let him know we are ok"

    Update on this story?

    2e0rky - kd8mgw

  • Really lady!! then don't look at it. He's a tax payer, he owns the lot so he can do what ever he wants. I commend his actions for putting up the array. I would do the same thing so get over it. You think he should move because of it? No,.. why don't you move.

  • Now that is a thing of beauty... the antenna I mean. 73!

  • It's not a eye saw its and antenna lol :)

  • @roznstyle

We are painfully aware of the controversy, even in Canada. Multiple studies were submitted which show that it does not significantly impact real estate values. This isn't just a hobby like growing roses, don't forget during emergencies and disasters, Amateur radio is often the ONLY communication method and that's the WRONG time to try to erect an antenna support structure and antenna and get things working. Market your real estate to amateur radio operators!

  • Great looking antenna installation Robert. Heck with those old heffers whining about it. Its your yard. Good for the FCC. Viva ham radio operators

  • It's a BIG Spider Antenna!

  • KMD, all the neighborhood busy bodies with nothing else to do :-)

  • All that fuss over one little antenna?

  • Good grief, quit looking at it if it disturbs you so much.

  • Them old ladies need to get laid, then they wont be outside bitching.......

  • I'm going through the same things right now. We put our house on the market and 2 weeks later, my neighbor erects a horrible looking ham antenna on his roof that utterly dwarf's his house. Now it looks like I live next to a cell phone tower. I'm pretty much screwed at this point. Ham operators are so igornant to the fact that their hobby utterly destroys property value in a neighborhood.

  • @roznstyle - That’s a rather broad sweeping statement regarding Ham Operators.

You are obviously annoyed with your (soon to be ex) neighbour- however spare a thought for the decent Ham Operator who confines his/her aerials (antennas) to within the confines of their own property.

In reality your statement could be applied to car & motorcycle enthusiast, dog breeders or anybody with a hobby which you may not like.

    73

  • thats why its called snob ridge.

  • Crank it all the way up and tell the neighbors its a low maintenance tree.

  • I think it is Beautiful! He should leave it at 55 feet, Haha.

  • ...its legal,but ...I think...leave ...a city...states.hahaha law is law,old ladies

  • I live in a antenna restricted area and i have a 43' vertical a large VHF and more dipoles than i can count and the neighbors cant do anything about it! lol

    73's

    KC9RXB

  • Well i bet that the first time something bad happens the "good heighbors" come to the "hams" house to find out the news!

  • its beautifull

  • lol ham radio is asome theas people are fags

  • Have they looked in their mirrors lately? Unsightly, ugly, and eyesore is the discription that suits themselves.

  • Comment removed

  • Neighbors reported on the complaint to the public office by anonymity when I also raised the antenna tower and 21mhz6el antenna and the government official came to see.

However, when the construction specification and the antenna strength specification were shown, it left.

Neighbors are also unfair with anonymity.

  • I know my neighbors love my 3 element yagi.

  • a bunch of old females with nothing better to do lol

  • @pspbarry basically

  • I think that antenna is sexy, far more sexy than my "Quad" loop that I had to settle with in my apartment.

  • They have nothing better to report in that town than some "antique desperate housewives" complaining about the size of his Yagi???

  • Wow, what a bunch of shallow pricks. Too much focus on aesthetics.

  • Does anyone know the hams callsign?

  • How is this news ? Cant you people find something worth while to bitch about ?

  • @fred30680 exactly...theres worse things a guy could be doing.

    :o)

  • i think those old bags are ulgly!

  • These moaning old crocks should be reminded of an old antenna adage - "If it stays up it ain't high enough" - let them be warned!

  • Exactly, I would go higher if I was him just to piss them off

  • I have 5 antennas up 3 verticals one beam in one wire the wire goes over the house in I have a 30-foot tower with the beam in the vertical on top both 2-meters I have a 6-meter up about 25-foot in for my bedroom for my ht's in mobile sometimes base station I have a 25-foot vertical uo in my neighbors hate my guts but when the power goes out their knocking on my door because i have 8 deep cycles to run my radios in a 5kw generator

  • They just dont realize Ham radio is very important. screw what ppl think

  • Yes! He should mount an even taller vertical antenna like the Solarcon A99 for the use of the fantastic 11 meter band that coming back largely!

  • It looks beautiful to me !! ... wtf !!

  • Women's sewing circle

Bunch of old ladies talking over the back fence who have nothing better to do than complain about Bob's tower on the corner of 92nd and Savannah!

    Get a freakin life people

There are people dying in Afghanistan and Iraq! Now that is a cause worthy of taking up and complaining about!

    peace :)

  • people complain about anything these days we should be complaining about there ugly puke green towncars my neighbor has a moonraker and i think they look cool

  • Suburbs are the real eyesores.

  • I just dont understand whats beautiful to me is a eyesore to others. for me what really is an eyesore is seeing people just dont stop minding other peoples business. as long its legal who cares!

    73 regards.

  • A radio antenna doesn't diminish the "beauty" of that boring suburban neighborhood one bit. In fact, it adds character. If i lived there I'd also build an astronomical observatory in my back yard! 73 y'all.

  • Bet the first ones to knock on his door in the case of an emergency after a Hurricane would be the ones who have done the most complaining. It's even worse here in the UK.

  • Pissing off the old people is kinda sweet. But it does belong on a used single wide trailer.

  • Have to say that antenna is awesome! and the fact it pisses off old hags makes it even more awesome.

  • They should have said it's some kind of new laundry pole. .Hang some clothes on it .Problem solved. Ok Beatrice,Lets go inside and watch "The View"

  • I have a better Idea, why don´t they better shove a big broom stick up their stinky hairy asses those old fat ass bitches ?

Fuck you ignorant bitches, the antenna is nothing but awesomeeee....

  • Well what the little old ladies can do if they don't like it is move. It's a free country and there is no law that states they can't move to another location.

  • thats right we are licenced and have heavy restrictions and are willing to help anybody who is in trouble. it is sad that a minority doesnt like an antenna!? well if thats the case, remove the all the ugly cell phone antennas i think they are ugly and serve no purpose as when disaster strikes these things are the first to get wiped out, hams however can fire up a generator and start help cordinating communications with agencies to get help where it is needed.
