I really enjoyed the PS2 version and enjoed the 3DS version even more I have to say Nintendo had a more than pitiful lineup of games when it came out, this game alone made the 3DS worth buying ^_^

@Suikoden1992 no need to be sad. Having Abyss is good enough lol. Only thing I can see that's different is the screen size.

@adikkuchan I got it a week ago. The controls were fixed from the set 8 directions to full 360 degree movement. A small upgrade but not unappreciated^^. Loading times improved and less lag on the world map. I like both I just prefer the 3DS for portability and slight but nice updates ^^

I loved Abyss, but Van should not have been the final boss. He was great as the boss for part 2 of the story (pipe organ ftw!), but him returning felt sort of redundant. I would have rather seen Lorelei somehow merge as the final boss for not upholding the Score. I'm not saying the second Van fight wasn't at a final boss caliber though.

Actually I think having Lorelei be the final boss would be too cliché. Okay sure, Lorelei's not a god, but it's still way too supernatural. Having to fight such a...thing...at the end of this awesome individual game would have kinda ruined it for me.

@drakelizard No, that's Indignation. Ancient Requiem is Van's first Mystic Arte. The second is something Elegy. Both will freeze your game if they KO your party.

@TwinArrival It's Celestial Elegy and is ironicly Van's only original mystic arte. Imperial Slaughter being similar to Rending Saber and Ancient Requiem being similar to Radiant Howl.

@naruto1234572635 Not to argure with you, but Van IS Luke and Aschs swordmaster, so even though you would likely encounter Radiant Howl and Rending Saber first, Imperial Slaughter and Ancient Requiem would be the original moves. I think it really shows the "Student must overcome the Master" bit. Luke has Base and Arcane Artes, but Van can use the FoF changes to those same Artes freely, showing his mastery of the sword style.

An epic battle, epic game, epic music. I love Tales games :D

I'm with you there. I love the way they present their games in such a way that you think, "So here's a cliched story... there is definitely nothing new or innovative about it, no sir, not at all"... and *THEN* the narrative kick to the guts happens and you realise that Namco has just subverted 50% of RPG cliches in one fell swoop.

The Tales games are brilliant at manipulating tropes and cliches to tell wonderful stories, and for that I applaud them as the best RPG series of all time.

I always love that aspect of the themes in the Tales series - that when you listen to them, you can recognise a common element of the main theme in each, but yet they all remain entirely unique and different from one another.

The master vs the apprentice/students/younglings is what I feel from this song.

The beginning of the song shows you looking at an experienced person that may be your master.

When the song starts the rough jumpy part where it sounds like a cowboy sounds like an experienced man's theme. The addition of the flute like instrument gives the theme of the younger opponents that vs the foe.

The part where it has the use of the entire symphony shows them clashing and fighting. It sounds epic!

It'd probably be a lot of flute players then. :/ Since I used to play the flute, and frankly, it was very hard for the flute to even make a sound over the noise that was the other instruments. If not, it could still be an ocarina, though I don't know much about ocarinas.
