So super relaxers work at the same ph as regular relaxers? Also what if someone doesnt necessarily have coarse hair bit its just tight kinks.. is it better for someone to sit longer with a regular relaxer or just go ahead and use super? My hair is not coarse but my hairdresser keeps my relacer in 30 minutes and im still underprocessed every time
You are a very careful hairdresser. The hairdressers at the salon I go to are very rough. I stretched my relaxer for about 13 weeks and the hairdresser just raked the fine tooth comb through my hair. I felt that all the tenderness I have given to my hair was lost. Not only that, but I also had three scabs [never had scabs before] by the time I was done. She would never go through my hair with base like that. never.
Excellent! This is the best tutorial Ive ever seen. Question : What do you do when the base thats being used is a more solid material in a jar such as Prostyle?

i have a question i dont know crap about relaxers but it's cool to watch but why can't you relaxed the relaxed ends again? i seen some girls relaxed the whole head and they already had a relaxer plenty of times
@lilBubbles212 The reason you shouldnt relax the already relaxer hair is bcos relaxers have already broken down the structure and wave of the former relaxed hair by making it straight and losing its original curl pattern. If you relax that same relaxed hair again, the hair will become weak and then breaks off. That is why it is only applied to the new growth. Hope this helps.
What a very clear, concise and informative video. There was NEVER a time when I felt lost. The camera angles were great. Combined with the education I received, that is what made the video a success.
what r the products u r using while relaxing the hair? i stay in stmaarten caribbean island here we get lots of relaxers but i m not able to judge which relaxer is best for indian hair can u plz advice
I have learned more about how to apply a relaxer watching this video than i have in my entire life...you know what your doing. Most stylist know how to style but they know nothing about how to care for hair properly...YOU BAD GIRL!!!! Keep it up black girls need you.
I got a perm/relaxer in march and my hair has grown quite a bit I can't comb it from the root but if I just perm all my hair would that damage my hair? I didn't gt any touch ups like I should have.
Love the song in the background. The one playing in the beginning of the video. The others are cool too but that singing in the first few mintues, caught my attention the most. Relaxing video.

whoa! You explained the process, as you was applying the relaxer very well. This is one of the best and most informative relaxer application videos I have seen. I must add this to my favorites.
Hi, love the video, may I ask what do you use for a protective base and if it's a professional brand, what other choices can I use as a protective base when relaxing my hair. Please and thank you.
I like how you take so long to put on the baser(I don't say that sarcastically.) because you show that you actually care about your client, and aren't just rushing through it to get to lunch break, or something. Nice job :)
@Jolielove11 Thank you for watching my video. I greatly appreciate it.. To answer your question "whooooooa where is the new gerowth(growth)? My client had over and inch of new growth...her wave/curl pattern is not tight so its hard to tell by your untrained eye.

This video was so helpful. I got my first relaxer when I was eighteen I am now tweenty and it has really been a journey. I ran into a wonderful stylist but I couldnt always afford to go to her so when I started relaxing on my own my hair took a hit. It has really been a journey for me. Your video was very helpful i had been processing my nape first and I kept wondering why it was breaking. Thank you so much
My current stylist doesn't base my scalp before applying the relaxer resulting in some burns. Right now I am still going to her until I find a new stylist, but is there something I can do at home before going in for a relaxer? I have heard I can apply petroleum jelly to my scalp as a base.

@nitamike Some people use petroleum jelly (vaseline) as a base the protect the scalp from getting burnt and irritated while chemically processing their hair. That's why she parted it and distributed it throughout the client's hair.

I have viewed several relaxer tutorials and your tutorial ranks at the top . Your teaching is wonderful, easy to understand and detailed. I have learned so much, I feel like I can apply a relaxer on myself. Please consider giving a permanent wave(wave nouveau etc.) tutorial at some point. Thank you for the lesson.
@kocaj17 Hi there..how are you. Thank you so much for you're comment. Being as though her new growth is not extremely curly it may appear as though there is not enough new growth as you stated. However my client had over an inch of new growth and as you can see I did not spread the relaxer through the entire hair shaft. Just the new growth. On the other hand thank you for the false observation.
@mcbrideinc Thank you. My hair is similar to your clients so I CAN see the newgrowth. Anytime I try a new hairdresser they NEVER relax all of my newgrowth the first visit because they have a difficult time telling where the newgrowth ends especially when I'm coming out of braids! I make sure I only go to 1 hairdresser or do it myself (rarely) because there is nothing worse than having an underprocessed relaxer because the hairdresser doesn't know YOUR hair.
Hi Kelle, I would like to know if you wouldn't mind sharing a video on haircutting, preferably just dusting the split ends, beginning to end on say a midlength style. The length of the relaxer, that was perfect.d
I like this video I work at a salon on saturdays I wish I can show my boss this. She just hurries through basing all the time and then she combs the relaxer through on the scalp and then the clients burn all the time. Then to add fuel to fire she actually does a color after the relaxation process. I think all the time this shit is jacked up.

Iam planning to do my own relaxer for the first time but before i try it on me i want too try to apply a relaxer on a manikin do u have any suggestions on where i can purchase one :) thx
Try using Epitomi Relaxer System - 100% Pure African Shea Butter. Moisturizes, conditions and protects. Using your techniques and the best relaxer/straightening system on the market will give your clients results you can be proud of.
I wish someone had a video with how to do a virgin relaxer. Thank you for clearing up the misconception of a super relaxer. Your video is very informative. I really want to do my own relaxer because each time a pro did it, I was burned bad. I am afraid that I will screw it up. My medium sized fro may be uneven and need a cut. I wish I never BCD, now.
The great hairstyle that did my hair, smart about apply on the new growth, I though you had to put perm all over the head, had no idea damage the hair that way if put all over. I have question when getting perm done for third time, do have to apply to new growth? Also if stop relaxer for while about three months or more just give your hair break, do you apply the relaxer all over the hair or just on the from the roots like your doing on the video?
Thank you for this video, i myself dont need a relaxer but my mother does and she doesnt like to spend the money goin to the salons so she turns to me and of course i youtube it!! lol and load and behold i found you and it was very informative. i want my mother to look good and having nice hair is a start!!
Where can i find the protective base you used or one like it? and the leave in conditioner?
@yessicarabbit the base u just can use any petroleum jelly base or just use Vaseline and leave in conditioner usuallycomes in the perm box or u can buy a sperate brand at walmart or a hair supply store and choose which brand u like
@ppickett21 no no no! you never wash your hair before a relaxer because you can cause serious burns and irritation to the scalp from the manipulation and your pores being completely open from washing your hair prior to the relaxer. you must allow 48 hours after washing your hair before getting a relaxer.
great video personally, u should do more videos of relaxers perhaps on coarser clients and maybe even some natural hair press videos to see what your choice on oils or no oil etc. what shampoos and conditioners to use for those things but overall great great video, i'm a stylist myself and thats the way u maintain great hair!
I like they way you relaxed with the exception of combing through the newgrwoth..Everywhere that I've read about relaxing states not to comb through, so I was curious about that..Also in part two did you use any leave in's or heat protectant? The final result was really nice though.
@shouyien thank you for the comment. As for the combing, you have to or else the relaxer will not get to all the strands evenly. You just have to make sure you don't comb the scalp itself. Just concentrate on the hair. Yes I used a leave-in conditioner.
Does anyone know what she is using as a base? I have looked in the beauty supplies and the relaxer kits and don't see anything that is called a base or a relaxer block, anything similar. Please post what to use to protect the scalp. Thanks,
@chrissis111 No one can tell you what I used because I used it. To answer your question you can use any petroleum base jelly. It doesn't matter the brand honey.
@mcbrideinc When I Relax My Hair I Dnt Base And I Dnt Experienced Any Burning Or Dandruff After .... Iz Their Any Reason Y I Should Still Base ....Plz Respond !!!!
@SaggRex girl you are funny! But there are a lot of stylists that are really professional and keep up with the latest in hair care. However they are few and far in between. Thanks for the love though!
Great job! I have a question: How important is it to base the scalp? My old hair stylist rarely based my scalp when I used to get relaxers. (Yeah it burned) I don't get relaxers anymore but she continues to relaxer her clients w/o basing
@marna52 It's such a misconception that it's ok to relax w/o basing the scalp. It's extremely important that you base the entire scalp bacause a relaxer contains sodium hydrozide and it burns the top layer of the scalp even if you don't feel it when you don't base the scalp. When that happens it creates dandruff and dry scalp from the top layer being burnt off. So what the stylist is doing a wrong and unexceptable.
@SFVone you can get the base from your local hair supply store. However many base forms come in jars. When that happens you would want to buy a color bottle with a narrow nozzle and transfer the base from the jar to the bottle. Once you have done that you want to apply the base to the scalp with the applicator bottle and not your fingers being as though your fingers carry heat and the rubbing will irritate the scalp even more.
@SFVone they should have the prostyle brand there. it comes in a jar. Most of the time it's a salmon pink color. I go to sally's and they always have it. Or go to the local beauty supply other than Sally's.
I was always told that you shouldn't comb through a relaxer, but I see that you did. Is it okay to gently comb through a relaxer on a virgin head of hair?
I must say, this is the BEST relaxer tutorial I have seen yet. You were VERY informative, descriptive, professional and precise. I was so disappointed with all of the other relaxer tutorials on YouTube so I am so glad I found this one. Thanks so much!
@crazycrack09 no i got all of the new growth. She is a regular client of mine and she only had just about an inch of new growth. I think you may have been looking to hard,
just try to apply the relaxer as best you can. it still works with the glue. You just have to comb out the glue during the shampoo process before you apply the reconstructor.
You are a great teacher. I've become so accustomed to using a brush I need to go to the comb. I always start at the nape and now I see I was so wrong. Thanks for this tutorial.
thanks mcbrideinc and nunaavane. i know i should tell her but i've known her for so long and i am not the confrontational type. i only go and see her like every three months or so i guess she thinks that i have accumulated a lot of new growths so its ok for her to do it. i also hipped myself on anticipating that she will apply it to my whole head, so i moisturize my relaxed her five days before i go and see her. i guess im thinking that that will protect the pre-relaxed hair
i usually get a touch up every three months. my hair is really course. in the smoothing part of the process my hair stylist seems to love to smooth the relaxer through my entire hair. i don't want to say anything a upset her but i also don't want over processed hair. what should i do?
OH NO!! Your stylist is doing one of the most incorrect and damaging things you can do to someone's hair. You should and have to say something to her about it. In all seriousness I would go to a new stylist. You can express to her/him in the beginning what has been going on and hopefully the new stylist will be better. Please leave your current stylist ASAP!!!
When I relax I get great instant result and then after about 4 days to a week it becomes frizzy my roots look terrible and sometimes start to shed hair and then it calms down again but never looks like it did when it was first relaxed. Do you have any ideas or suggestions I could try. Thanks
this is a great video! i just have one question. my hair will NOT part like you parted her hair. my mom is doing my relaxer and she won't be able to get a comb through to the 4 sections, much less the 1/8 inch partings!! what should i do?
ok well why won't your hair part? Do you have a lot of new growth? Is your curl pattern very tight? if so you can apply any leave-in conditioner or regular creme conditioner to loosen the tight curl pattern. You don't have to saturate the hair. Just add enough to loosen the hair. That will help a lot!
Thank you very much for the video. There are many videos on YouTube that show how to apply a relaxer, but yours is one of few that show the CORRECT WAY. Plus, you're playing Chrisette Michelle's Epiphany in the background. Loves it!!!
Question: Can you please tell me where I can get the relaxer base in the squeeze bottle? Is that a professional product only?
Thank you for the comment. I'm glad you picked up on the Epiphany playing in the background :D As for the base, yes it's only provided for professionals. However, you can buy regular base in a jar and distribute the base into a store brought applicator bottle. It works exactly the same. don't for get to rate subscribe and check out my new slide shows!!!!
@mcbrideinc - Hi! You mentioned that we can buy regular base in a jar and then put it in an applicator bottle to apply. However, whenever I see base at the store, it's thicker than vaseline so I'm thinking that if I put it in an applicator bottle, it won't come out as easy as yours did. Is there any base on the market that is the same consistency as the one you just used? Or is there something we can mix with the store bought base so that we can squeeze it out of the applicator bottle easier?
Hi. Congratulations. I have watched alot of videos on here and this is in my opinion the best, just out of interest what was the total time for the product was on her hair?
Thank u 4 the comment! after the 8 minutes for application the remaining processing time took about 6 minutes(total 14min). My client has fine to medium hair and it relaxes easily. the processing time varies from the texture of the hair.
So super relaxers work at the same ph as regular relaxers? Did you recommend a lye or no lye relaxer? And what's the difference?

I wish someone had a video with how to do a virgin relaxer. Thank you for clearing up the misconception of a super relaxer. Your video is very informative. I really want to do my own relaxer because each time a pro did it, I was burned bad. I am afraid that I will screw it up. My medium sized fro may be uneven and need a cut. I wish I never BCD, now.

I had a texturizer go wrong. I would like to relax my hair strait, instead. How long do you wait until I can do it?
natrlchallenge 1 year ago
The great hairstyle that did my hair, smart about apply on the new growth, I though you had to put perm all over the head, had no idea damage the hair that way if put all over. I have question when getting perm done for third time, do have to apply to new growth? Also if stop relaxer for while about three months or more just give your hair break, do you apply the relaxer all over the hair or just on the from the roots like your doing on the video?

do you wash the hair first before you relaxer it?
ppickett21 1 year ago
@ppickett21 no no no! you never wash your hair before a relaxer because you can cause serious burns and irritation to the scalp from the manipulation and your pores being completely open from washing your hair prior to the relaxer. you must allow 48 hours after washing your hair before getting a relaxer.
mcbrideinc 1 year ago 11
great video personally, u should do more videos of relaxers perhaps on coarser clients and maybe even some natural hair press videos to see what your choice on oils or no oil etc. what shampoos and conditioners to use for those things but overall great great video, i'm a stylist myself and thats the way u maintain great hair!
uniqueshowstopper 1 year ago
I like they way you relaxed with the exception of combing through the newgrwoth..Everywhere that I've read about relaxing states not to comb through, so I was curious about that..Also in part two did you use any leave in's or heat protectant? The final result was really nice though.
shouyien 1 year ago

Great job! I have a question: How important is it to base the scalp? My old hair stylist rarely based my scalp when I used to get relaxers. (Yeah it burned) I don't get relaxers anymore but she continues to relaxer her clients w/o basing
marna52 2 years ago
@marna52 It's such a misconception that it's ok to relax w/o basing the scalp. It's extremely important that you base the entire scalp bacause a relaxer contains sodium hydrozide and it burns the top layer of the scalp even if you don't feel it when you don't base the scalp. When that happens it creates dandruff and dry scalp from the top layer being burnt off. So what the stylist is doing a wrong and unexceptable.
mcbrideinc 2 years ago
So that explains why I've always had horrible dandruff when I got relaxers. I had no idea! Thank you for answering
marna52 2 years ago
finally a stylist that knows about proper relaxing! Good job 5 stars for you

hey why do yu put base on hair b4 the relaxer? i never knew why
corbin332 2 years ago
@corbin332 you use the base to protect the scalp from any irritations from the relaxer.
mcbrideinc 2 years ago
@mcbrideinc ok so yu use that all the time or just sumtimes?
corbin332 2 years ago
Great video. Where can i buy the base? or can i use Vaseline?
SFVone 2 years ago
@SFVone you can get the base from your local hair supply store. However many base forms come in jars. When that happens you would want to buy a color bottle with a narrow nozzle and transfer the base from the jar to the bottle. Once you have done that you want to apply the base to the scalp with the applicator bottle and not your fingers being as though your fingers carry heat and the rubbing will irritate the scalp even more.
mcbrideinc 2 years ago
@mcbrideinc Do you know the brand of base you used? I've been to a few beauty supply stores(like Sallys) in socal and they tell me to use vaseline.
I would like to try base.
SFVone 2 years ago
@SFVone they should have the prostyle brand there. it comes in a jar. Most of the time it's a salmon pink color. I go to sally's and they always have it. Or go to the local beauty supply other than Sally's.

how do u apply relaxer to hair that a glue still in it???
shekitta 2 years ago
just try to apply the relaxer as best you can. it still works with the glue. You just have to comb out the glue during the shampoo process before you apply the reconstructor.

What relaxer brand are you using?
sweetfm2008 2 years ago
in the video i'm using a relaxer by pure essence system I. unfortunetely you can't buy that relaxer in stores. Unless it's illegally being retailed.
mcbrideinc 2 years ago
thanks mcbrideinc and nunaavane. i know i should tell her but i've known her for so long and i am not the confrontational type. i only go and see her like every three months or so i guess she thinks that i have accumulated a lot of new growths so its ok for her to do it. i also hipped myself on anticipating that she will apply it to my whole head, so i moisturize my relaxed her five days before i go and see her. i guess im thinking that that will protect the pre-relaxed hair
yorubaprincess 2 years ago
Thank you for posting..what kind of base is that you are using?
HEG027 2 years ago
i usually get a touch up every three months. my hair is really course. in the smoothing part of the process my hair stylist seems to love to smooth the relaxer through my entire hair. i don't want to say anything a upset her but i also don't want over processed hair. what should i do?
yorubaprincess 2 years ago
tell her not to ! ! ! this will end up killing all your hair ! please stop her !
nunaavane 2 years ago

Thanks
donsim100 2 years ago
this is a great video! i just have one question. my hair will NOT part like you parted her hair. my mom is doing my relaxer and she won't be able to get a comb through to the 4 sections, much less the 1/8 inch partings!! what should i do?
Thanks, Hailey
haile9000 2 years ago
ok well why won't your hair part? Do you have a lot of new growth? Is your curl pattern very tight? if so you can apply any leave-in conditioner or regular creme conditioner to loosen the tight curl pattern. You don't have to saturate the hair. Just add enough to loosen the hair. That will help a lot!
mcbrideinc 2 years ago
it won't part because this will be a virgin application cause i've never had my hair relaxed before. but i will try this and see if it helps. thanks!

God Bless!!
qtslim83 2 years ago
Thank you for the comment. I'm glad you picked up on the Epiphany playing in the background :D As for the base, yes it's only provided for professionals. However, you can buy regular base in a jar and distribute the base into a store brought applicator bottle. It works exactly the same. don't for get to rate subscribe and check out my new slide shows!!!!
mcbrideinc 2 years ago
@mcbrideinc - Hi! You mentioned that we can buy regular base in a jar and then put it in an applicator bottle to apply. However, whenever I see base at the store, it's thicker than vaseline so I'm thinking that if I put it in an applicator bottle, it won't come out as easy as yours did. Is there any base on the market that is the same consistency as the one you just used? Or is there something we can mix with the store bought base so that we can squeeze it out of the applicator bottle easier?

Hi. Congratulations. I have watched alot of videos on here and this is in my opinion the best, just out of interest what was the total time for the product was on her hair?
dmskjw100 2 years ago
Thank u 4 the comment! after the 8 minutes for application the remaining processing time took about 6 minutes(total 14min). My client has fine to medium hair and it relaxes easily. the processing time varies from the texture of the hair.

Thanks for this. I have just relaxed mine and got the same fantastic results. Nice and light! Bless U x
