  • Good evening everybody, While the day's Mayor's race continues, most other contests have been decided. And the candidates are now, either contemplating their defeat or celebrating their victory. Channel 4's Bob Mayer reports...

They don't write headlines like that anymore...

  • I would have loved to see the footage with Bob Gallagher...I went to elementary school with his kids in Hollywood, FL

  • Does anyone have video of the tropical scenes (moving).

  • I thought it mightve been like that scene from "The Shining" where it showed Scatmann Crothers in Miami lying in bed watching the local news. Does anyone have any info where that piece is from...remember?

  • "This is Ted Baxter. Good night, and good news!"

  • That was on a DVD-RAM wasn't it? Playing on a Panasonic player? I recognize the information dialog box.

  • Can' believe you were sharp enough to pick that up. But you are absolutely correct!

  • I also have a Panasonic player that can record to DVD-RAM. Mine is a DMR-ES10. It's very convenient for recording from another device. The VRO file on the disc can just renamed MPEG and be played with any media software. I've uploaded a number of videos recorded on the player via DVD-RAM.

  • @AndrewLGP I also have one of those and I didn't know that Ralph had kids.

  • I wonder if Les Nessman from WKRP was a Renick fan, since his sign-off was basically a carbon copy of Ralph's...LOL

  • Cuts off right before Bob Mayer goes on; I would have liked to have seen that part since Mayer is still on the air down here.

  • There are several old Bob Mayer clips, including one where Renick throws to Mayer for the station's first live-shot. Copy and paste this:

    WTVJ/Miami - 1975 - 1st Live Shot (Ralph Renick - Bob Mayer)

  • Thanks for posting this video.

  • Betsy Carter writes in her book "Nothing to Fall Back On" that while attending her HS reunion in Miami, a friend managed to get her a great "blind date"...who was he? You guessed it: Ralph Renick. :-)

  • Glad this footage still exists. You should definitely submit the open to the NMSA.

  • All of WTVJs footage, along with most local TV stations in Florida's archive are preserved at the Florida Moving Image Archive in Miami.

  • hi grahambrunk-thanks for information about this archive- do you have any links to this- every link I tried ended up in a dead end. Thanks!

  • we will have a new website up soon.
