George Nelson was actually killed (sort of) during a stand-off with police; it's a pretty amazing story. He was probably the most sadistic gangster to have existed in this time period. He was promoted Public Enemy No. 1 once John Dillinger was out of the picture.

They sprayed him with 16-17 bullets but he didnt die until he avenged John Dillinger killing the two agents in the car. One of the feds had shot John. But you are right, unlike Dillinger or Floyd...Nelson was a sociopath. After Nelson, Alvin Karpis leader of the Barker gang became PE #1
