@thedeathskittle lips are tightened and air blown through faster to hit the higher notes. so valve 1 and 2 which is and E can be tightened to become A above or below it for example. :)

Wonderful music and a great trumpet player. What I find offensive, as I'm sure she must as well, that, as a skilled classical musician she is still marketed as a sex object. To people making fun of her posture... Get over yourselves. Not everyone has to have a straight back while they play, this isn't marching band ladies and gentlemen.

Alison plays beautifully, and she just wants to be relaxed while she does so, not forced to remain in some straight and stiff position, which can distract her from concentrating on putting feeling into the music.

I've seen many great trumpeters that don't have their bells pointed up, their backs straight, etc. Just my two cents.

I've always noticed that when playing a valved instrument specifically ones with short valve strokes it always feels more snappy than it looks when you actually watch the player's fingers and it's really apparent in this. Though i also forget how much of the effort is done in the mouth and not in the fingers. I play euphonium, but i rarely watch brass players other than from my own point of view.

Too much slurring. For my taste, the trumpet is the staccato leader of the band. It's the brass soprano, and charges into play with tight, fast double and triple tonguing. That's what performers can do. She's OK, but we'll not see her as a soloist with the New York Philharmonic. ( Unless they want a slurred afternoon)

That doesn't seem to slow down her fingering, though. It's "whatever works," really.

I'm more surprised that she keeps her right pinky so firmly in the horn's finger loop. Almost every player I know uses that loop only intermittently, especially when playing such rapid passages.
