what a waste of space in the interior of her boat! what were the designers thinking?! there is so much empty space. it obviously has not been thought out!
@MokomaSusi well as a parent I would prefer my daughter did something that takes courage and hard work instead of being a drunken slut on mtv. but each to their own I guess.
@MokomaSusi Well the majority don't, so it's not expensive. And just because the whole Earth is now known to man doesn't mean you still can't explore. It's human nature to explore and anyone should be allowed to do it. Who are we to judge her simply over expense. The lot of our fat asses probably strains our health care system, now that's expensive. Do some yoga.
I hope she ignores all the critics, she should be proud of what she's done. I hope my daughter (who is 2) grows up to be like Abby and Jessica Watson instead of some trashy MTV wannabe star!
Only a parent knows when and how far to allow that child to stretch their wings. It is ultimately, their dreams they must follow, their own rainbows they must chase and their own abilities they must live up to. Helping young people like Abby follow their dreams may be one of the most important jobs of being a parent!
There are few people in this world blessed enough to know what it feels like to live out a dream of their own. Abby is in full “living the dream” mode right now and it’s been awesome to see her pick up on the world’s enthusiasm for what she’s accomplishing. We believe helping young people like Abby nurture their own dreams can be the greatest gift a parent can give their child. Each child holds their own potential and abilities, their own dreams, their own ideas of the perfect life.
im so glad that she is ok, ive been following her for a couple months now and i about passed out when i heard that something was wrong, so very thankful that she is safe:)
how is she a waste of taxpayer's money? She's pushing boundaries, exploring, like every human should desire to do and be CELEBRATED FOR instead of just being a sloth like most of us. Go to Goldman for a real waste of money. There is really an ugly jealousy festival going on here.
knockdowns are fairly common on sailboats. these boats can actually flip all the over, then come back upright. Jessica Watson did a complete 180 on her voyage, as well as several that knocked her on her side. the worst part is if the mast snaps off, which is what ended abbeys voyage.
i have herd her mention getting knocked down in other clips. does that mean the boat goes on its side? maybe a dumb question just dont know. i would love to learn to sail.she is such an inspiration. i hope she tries it again. best of luck girl!
People crying over A330 flights and maritime rescue need to wake up.
These systems are in place to help save lives, and they need to be exercised in order to maintain readiness. "Wild Eyes" was equipped with the right equipment that led to quick rescue in the middle of the ocean. The Aussies did a great job spotting Abby and they are probably enjoying the kudos.
Some spent jet fuel and a diverted vessels are all reasonable costs to help a young woman complete a very special feat. =)
I think the critics must be jealous and bitter. This girl is not even 18 and she has had more adventure than these critics will have in all their lifetimes, combined.
Abby's older brother completed a solo circumnavigation before. She was well equipped, as can be seen from this video and others. Who are we to tell this family how to live?
A timetable based on achieving a world record put Abby in the Indian Ocean when a small craft like hers would be most at risk...
It's a shame to see ppl bashing her... what would you be saying if she successfully reached her goal? What would you be saying if she died?
She had a big goal and took the risk - to all those bashers - what the hell were you doing at 16? Playing video games? Your life would be more worthy of being saved by the coast guard?
Don't bash people who take risk in life, and parents who encourage it, because they should be the example of how to get ahead in life. It's not about money, but principle.
What the hell is wrong with you negative idiots? She's a positive, aggressive, action-oriented, person who already knows her stuff at age 16. It takes real courage to do what she set out to do. She's a brave kid that represents everything good about America and about life in general. You bitchy kids need to eat yourselves and, thereby, improve the quality of life on Earth.
my thoughts and prayers are with you abby you little sweet heart you.....help is on the way honey!!!!!!we all know your alive and well cause the lord has told me so:)god bless abby
@bbqsauceisbad Capsized means turned over, not necessarily sunk, so the boat could be capsized and the third beacon would not trigger. Anyway, they found her alive. She's lucky to have escaped the wrath of the Ocean.
this girl has more guts than most men i know

I admire her! As I write this her boat is damaged and awaiting rescue. Doesnt matter if she did not achieved her goal I still admire her courage..
