Note to people who have no common sense: This method is used to repair SMALL rust spots. This does NOT solve the problem completely and if rust affects an important structural area on a monocoque body, this repair will not give it it's strenght back.
If the floors, quarter panels, pillars, frame rails, rockers etc... are affected, covering it up will only make it worse. Spending more time and money by cutting the affected area and welding new metal in place is the ONLY real solution.
The only thing I'd add is that you should consider using something like POR-15 after you sand the rust as much as you can, and before using bondo, otherwise, I suspect the rust will come back rather quickly
@rockman12367, Bondo will certainly work here, but you need to clear all the rust, and I would use a rust-preventative before painting. The repair they show is almost ideal for Bondo. In reality, you'll have to do multiple coats of bondo with sanding in between to get a nice shape. Of course, if the hole is too large and would require too much bondo, you almost have to consider cutting out the rust and either welding or riveting new metal into place.
to get the right color paint, look under the hood, or in the door jam, just look around. your exact paint code will be in the vehicle somewhere. possibly where the VIN# is
I wouldnt put any filler directly over the holes unless the cancer holes were chemically neutralized and treated with a Zinc rich primer. if the slightest spec of cancer were in one of those cavities, eventually it would rust up again and push the body filler right off the metal. Body filler does NOT have the adhesion capabilities of a good self etching primer, and no rust protection properties whatsoever. I know this well....from years and years of failure!!!! lol
How do you get a good color match? Is there a special kind of paint I should get? I have some rust like this on a black jeep I wanna take care of, but I'm afraid the paint won't match well
@alexpoz09 not if you get your vehicle rust proofed at places like Corrosion Free, where I work. we have cars that have been coming to us since the early ninties, every 18 months and they have zero rust. But i live in canada so maybe americans don't have many of these establishments??
the rust comes becous it toucher water and air is it only is in contact with air does it rust. i mean like is the air sometimes for full of h20 that steel may rust if its only in air no water
your supposed to spray rust converter before putting body filler, he also forgot to clean and wire brush behind the wheel arch.... pretty lame vid...after a year or so rust will come through the body filler.
@yTubeBlowsBigBalls so i would lay down a small coat of primer before the filler... btw i have always put the filler over bare metal on my old vehicle restorations.
Yes there is ...just wrap a little magnet in some cloth or something,,, and put it on the part you wish to check. if its metal it will stay,,if its filled it will not hold.
oh god thanks need to fix up my 91 ford crown vic it has surface rust around the side marker lights and on the bottom of the rocker panels and a spot on the left quarter panel.
This is the best and simplest rust repair video on here. All the others are super old & obsolete or too complicated & requiring special tools. I can do this! Thanks!
Any idea where we can find the materials used in the video in Canada? Many thanks.

@rocboy2006 I used to live in Canada. If I still did, I'd look in Canadian Tire for these products.

the cloth is for not scratching the paint.
