In episode 94 of Mythbusters a pilot gave them instructions from a radio and both mythbusters managed to safely land the plane in a NASA simulator. This is almost exactly the same instance as in Derren Brown's show.

this was totally unrealistic, when the cabin crew asked if anyone can fly it..

1) why couldn't they fly it? they would have more knowledge of the aircraft.

2) Everyone knows that a plane has a co-pilot.

3) It was far to easy to fly and land that plane.

5) The other actors on the plain were'nt screaming or crying. So if it was real the actor 'Matt' should really have twigged on.

6) If this were a real life situation with no pilot then i'm sure atleast half of the plane would volunteer to help fly the plane,if it was between that or crashing you might aswell give it a try.

@justtakeiteasy Yes they land themselves but you have to know how to make it land itself. The plane just doesnt takeoff and land itself without punching in 100s of commands into the panels. Its like anything.

I think people are going a bit too much into the detail of how he landed the plane, the main point was that he overcame this fear and became a 'hero'. The plane simulator was probably set to just land on it's own without crashing but he had to believe that he was the one who took control.

Saying that, I'm not sure whether it's real or fake, if it is real, then it's quite a nice little story, if it's fake, then ahh well, at least it was quite entertaining.

Also if you listened to what Derren said, he did say the situation was completely unrealistic and it could never happen in real life

@justtakeiteasy I highly doubt we could land it .we might get to the ground but would we land it safe and bring it to a stop? We will never know unless we are in that moment with that task in front of us. If you know the workings of a plane and can grasp whats in front of you with ease by just using fsx or something then you would have a better chance. But someone that doesnt know anything about an aircraft would have zero chance even with atc help

I respect the show for that but i was expecting like all of us some real action like even helping the copilot to land even if he wasnt touching anything. That atleast would have been real. So we were mislead the entire run up due to the title of the show.

Not being a hero to others but to yourself and well being thats how i picked it up lol. Nobody is a hero, we are all equal

The point of the story is to live in the moment and take action now on what you want and not to back away from an experience good or bad. Take a chance even if it doesnt work out. If you want that dream job or a better life then reach out and grab it. Because he wanted to be a police man and have that life style but didnt have the balls to go for it and was stuck in his rut of normal repeating life.

What happened in the show is irrelevant what the show is trying to tell us is not

Th ewhole flying part is faked even in the simulator he isnt even flying it. You here the audio alert 2500 which means hes at 2500ft above the ground. But the atc guy says reduce the alt from 13000ft to 3000ft. So how can he be at 2500ft lol? The simulator was pre programmed and he wasnt even controlling it. The whole point of the show however is very true and it affects every person watching it.

Some parts also reminded me of Donny Darko strangely, the plane theme, the countdown clock flying about everywhere, meeting someone after being awoken by voices, and a near identical shot of a pupil dilating...But maybe that's just me. There was also hardly anything to do with Derren in it...

I found this whole show really disappointing. Clearly scripted, acted, and unimaginative.

Also, absence of the 'Live element' left me sceptical.

The garden scene where Derren was talking to the 'man', was shot with numerous cameras in a manner which could only be achieved with multiple takes.

Therefore, not real.

As much as i have admired his work before this, i was surprised there was no 'surprise' at the end, something which actually gave this charade SOME, scrap of meaning. anything.
